1 off walk. I wanted to do this for a while. Worth the effort. Enjoyable 4.5hr walk. Very scenic and worthwhile.

Bissoe, Twelveheads, Carharrack, Lanner, Tuckingmill, Parkbottom, Illogan, Portreath, Scorrier and back to Bissoe.
A cycle ride through the Mineral Tramways encircling Redruth and culminating at Portreath. Starting from Bissoe Bike Chain the ride incorporates The Redruth To Chacewater Railway Trail, The Great Flat Lode Trail, The Portreath Branchline Trail and The Coast To Coast Trail.
There are many fine views of Cornwall on this ride and especially in the vicinity of Carn Brea.
The route is fairly easy to follow with a map, signage is mixed but workable. I memorized the route on Google Maps and took my phone for occasional reference. There is a fairly steep climb at Lanner on the edge of Carn Marth otherwise the rest of the route is moderate when going in a clockwise direction.
Good Maps are available online.
Parking at Bissoe Bike Chain costs £3.
Parking is free at The Coast To Coast Trail car park, Devoran.
Refreshment can be found at many places along the route.
The round trip from Bissoe is 26 miles.
MTB's and hybrids only.
90% off road.
About as good as a cross country bike ride can get in my opinion.

Point Quay, Penpol to Portreath.
The longest route in the Mineral Tramways series of trails and in my opinion the best cycle trail in Cornwall. A 25 mile round trip through mining country with many pleasant views and interesting things to look at, bisecting the thin end of the peninsula.
The trail itself is pretty bumpy and rocky in places so off road bikes only. Look out for the Poldice Valley, Fox and Hounds (highest point of route) and the Quayside at Devoran and Point Quay at the start or end.
An alternative start or end is from Devoran Quay which gives a round trip of 22 miles.
The trail is fairly well sign posted and good maps are available to download. Parking is free at Bissoe Bike Chain if you use the nice cafe. Otherwise the trail car park at Devoran is also free.
Cycle hire at Bissoe, Nancekuke (Elm Farm) and Portreath.
Also of interest is the Little Beeside and Wheal Busy loops which make up the extended Coast To Coast Trail and brings the round trip to 29 miles.
Take care when walking mine ruins.

Really enjoying the trails and exploring some of the area on our bikes. We were staying at Wheal Rose (great little campsite there right on the Coast to Coast trail if you’re looking!) and spent 3 afternoon/ days out on our bikes exploring the trails directly from the campsite.
You definitely need mountain bikes; whilst there are parts that are tarmac, I would say that the majority isn’t and there are lots of stony and some quite rocky parts. We are average fitness with some mountain bike experience and found these trails perfectly do-able.
Coast to Coast - Wheal Rose to Portreath: 30/40 mins each way, and enjoyed a picnic on the beach. Pretty easy cycling mainly through trees; slightly downhill there so a little more difficult coming back.
Coast to Coast - Wheal Rose to Devoran: about 2 hours each way at a leisurely pace. Some lovely scenery on this section - a really nice day out with mainly flat riding and a slight but steady climb on the section between Twelveheads to Scorrier (pub at the top for a cold beer / cider to recover!). Worth noting that there is nothing at Devoran for food / drinks / toilets but plenty of nice spots to picnic along the route.
Redruth & Chasewater Railway - Wheal Rose to Carn Marth(via the Coast to Coast from Wheal Rose to Twelveheads): about 5 hours in total with a good few stops to explore and for lunch. This one was a bit more challenging - some bumpy terrain and quite a climb up to Carn Marth. Took us a lot less time to get back! But some stunning views and really great exploring of the old mining area - we were hopping off our bikes every few minutes for the first section to read the signs and explore a little. Really enjoyed this trail.

To be fair, I just don’t think we have the right bikes for this one. We have done Camel, Tarka and Plym easily but this was unpleasant. I have to say it’s very pretty though. We couldn’t cope with the rough gravel and regular outcrops of granite along the route. Also, a bee in my bonnet about cyclists without bells! Have they spent so much on their bikes they can’t afford a bell or is it an affront to their manhood to use one! As a walker too, I am always grateful for a warning of approaching men in Lycra!

We did this really good family ride this week. Good surface most of the way, nice scenery and pretty flat unless you take a wrong turning like we did ! Look out for all the granite markers some of which blend in very well with the scenery! At the crossroads with the bon appetite cafe don't go up the hill which is still marked "Mining trails" unless you like hills and want to see Redruth!!

We are a family of 4.two energetic boys, 7and 10. We loved the cycle. Parked for free in Devoran. Lovely cycle under the falmouth line viaduct, pass a cycle hire in Bissoe, and a gradual ascent to Scorrier. Then descent on tiny lanes, pathways or pavements to Portreath. Lovely to have a picnic watching the waves.
Some lovely highlights. There is a resident close to Devoran selling sweets and cakes from a cart with flags with an honesty box. Great flapjack.
The cafe converted from an old petrol station in Devoran close to the main road has great cakes.
We did the whole thing in 5hours including stops. The kids never complained once.
Recommended. But with a mountain bike or hybrid. Some rough terrain.

A nice run, pleasantly undulating with no major hills... a much preferred route to other overcrowded cycle routes in The County

Cycled this route following a six year gap. Very disappointed in condition of trail. We struggled on hybrid cycles, not because of the terrain, but condition of the trail. Rocky and furrowed. The female of couple ahead of us hit stone and came off her mountain bike. Shame as it's an excellent route, just needs some attention.
