We hiked Sanqingshan two days after hiking Yellow Mountain. Any edge the latter may have on scenery is marginal at best and is more than offset by the relative tranquillity of Sanqingshan. It is also much easier on the body not having to ascend and descend thousands of steps. The only wish we had (throughout nature spots in China) is that Chinese men could pay a tiny bit of respect towards 'No Smoking' signs rather than ignoring them with sheer arrogance.

Not too touristy, get there early if you want to walk around and see all scenic spots. Great views and well maintained paths, a number of places for snacks.

We entered the park though Waishuangshi Cableway. Before going all the way up to the entrance, make sure you buy your tickets at the office which is located close to Hilton Hotel and right in front of a yin yang sculpture on the floor. Cableway round trip costs 245RMB (around 35USD) for adults, 123RMB for kids, and children shorter than 120cm go for free. There are many steep steps and the weather changes fast so, go prepared! Bring rain jackets, rain boots or shoe covers, umbrellas and snacks. It is rare to see foreigners at the park and the only food options they have is Chinese. We don’t enjoy Chinese food, so we brought snacks like apples, cookies, banana chips and more. You can easily buy water and other drinks at many spots around the park. We walked A LOT and it was totally worth coming because of the breathtaking views. Stunning nature with the most beautiful mountains I have ever seen.

The climb around the scenic area of this mountain is so well maintained that ordinary visitors have no problem in ascending and descending the well organized path. The scenes are absolutely enchanting, amazing and breathtaking. Visitors to Jiangxi must not miss this.

any idea how we can book/buy entrance tickets during this covid situation (june 2020)? ive tried on both ctrip and lvmama but they require chinese names and id
Hi There. We are a group of 3 people in our 70s (some of us with sore knees :( ) Would you advise south or east entrance? We can walk but too many steps would be very difficult. Is it possible to do only one part of the trail if necessary? I assume we would still see beautiful vistas???
Your response will much appreciated

Hi! If you wanna avoid steps, definitely take the east entrance (Jinsha Ropeway) as the south entrance is lower down the mountain and you will have to climb more. The route is like this - when u start from the ropeway, there r some options u can take, looping clockwise or anti-clockwise back to the rope way. I can't remember what direction was mine but we walked for about 20 to 30 min on flat ground then many stairs up to the python. Thereafter if u wanna move on to sunshine cost and west coast where there r lots of flat ground u can, but do rem there r always staircases and the whole loop take 6 to 7 hrs. yes u can always do part of the trail and then go back the way u came...u would still see nice scenery. time yourself, assess ur fitness level and decide on a turn back point. in my case I hadn't planned on completing the whole loop. but as I progressed I felt like i would rather climb in a new place than go back the way i came. Take it easy, even going up the steps, I rested every 25 steps. it really does test ur perseverance.

How long does it take to walk up the mountain from where the cable car drops you off? (Or does it drop you off at the top?)

The usual hike up the mountain and back to the cable car area is around 90 minutes.

I am going to be traveling with some other Americans in a few weeks (mid-July). One is a 70 year old man. The rest of us are younger, but standard Americans (aka, not super fit). Obviously we'll buy all of the tram passes to avoid as much climbing as possible, but do you think this trip is feasible for our group? I'm mostly concerned about the climb up -- I read that someone said it's an hour of climbing stairs. Is that one hour straight? Or is it manageable?
We did go to Zhangjiajie (another mountain) a few years earlier with the same group, but getting to the top was not a big deal because they had buses to take us up most of the way. Just wondering if we should look at Huangshan or another mountain instead.
Thanks!

HI there r certain stretches of Sanqingshan tt have flights after flights of stairs...however u can always slow down like we did....rest every 25 steps....this mountain needs perseverance...at one stretch the stairs were steeper but there were chains to hang on to. There r many senior folks fr China there so it is doable for a 70 year old. But be prepared to sweat. There r also long stretches where it is just flat ground and u enjoy the stunning scenery...give ourselves at least 7 hrs to complete the whole loop...

How far from Shanhai?

If you mean "Shanghai," the answer is that it's about 2.5 hours on the train to Shangrao, and then an hour or so by bus/car/shuttle to the mountain. Well worth it, however.
Hi Ka Hong, were you able to use the internet when you were there? If yes, which telco did you subscribe to? I will be going there in 1 week's time. Will need access to internet for work purpose. Also, which hotel did you stay in? Thanks

On the south side, from the bottom to where the cable car goes would take between 1 and two hours to walk at least. From the top of the cable car on the south side, there are two loops. We did the West one in the morning and the East one in the afternoon. We went pretty much everywhere, but it took from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you have half a day, I would recommend taking the cable car, hiking around the east loop, and taking the cable car back down. I wouldn't spend less than half a day there.
