National trust Formby beach review. It says the lifeboat car park is accessible to the beach via a boardwalk. Because it was absolutely throwing it down and I didn't think my foldable supermarket scooter would make it, I decided to walk. 500yards from car park to boardwalk, felt like 17 miles. I pushed myself through the pain and exhaustion as I wanted to see if I could come back on my scooter. NOPE. Boardwalk nice enough but then it's a foot deep in sand for over 3 metres. NOT ACCESSIBLE. It's the soft sand, even in torrential rain, it was still impassable for me even on foot as I'd absolutely reached my limit. I understand going to the beach is not easy but don't say something is accessible when it clearly isn't and then charge non members of the national trust £8.50 for the privilege. There are no bins.

Massive and lovely open beach. Unfortunately the weather was not friendly but our grand children enjoyed in water so as we. Nice and calm place for a long walk.
Ver less public facilities, even toilets in park were not available.
Over all it is good beach to spend day with family.
Packed lunch/snacks are highly recommended.

When you come from Ireland, the coast can only be a disappointment. It certainly stretches for miles. A good load of sea swimmers at various times of the day. The best part was being able to walk inland too. The dunes are being held back well by the National Trust. Signage is a bit poor but getting lost was part of the fun.

National Trust beach and parking. Spectacular sand dunes and wide sandy beach surrounded by woodland. Would have appreciated information on walks from carpark.

Massive open beach. Very very busy BUT there was room for everyone and you didn't feel the numbers. It's a long walk to the car and only porta loos for toilets so be ready!

Lovely walk down the beach to blow the cobwebs off. Just stunning. Loads of people find that there is a lot of dog walkers and family. Which is great to see.

Stunning beach, great dunes. Even toilets in the car park. Well worth a visit. Tide goes way out. Life guard on the beach. Loved it.

Beautiful beach, initially parked in lifeboat road car park due to accessibility with a pram however realised I was in the wrong car park to where my family had had parked, national trust staff at the car park were so helpful and kind and helped me get to the right car park. Went to beach car park, then took a short walk over the sand dune and onto the beach (not pram friendly route). Beach was lovely, had a great few hours, kids loved it. Went to ice cream van on way back, the ice cream man was quite rude, snappy with us as if we were an inconvenience despite spending £20 on ice creams between us (prices on the expensive side, extra 50p per ice cream for a little bit of sherbet which I’ve never come across before), which did put a bit of a dampener on the day - manners cost nothing!

Nice place for walking the dogs and spending a nice afternoon on the beach. Weather was great which helped. Traffic not too bad.

Breathtaking sunset view. The beach had low tides, so the water wasnt nearby. The sky was a canvas of vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples as the sun dipped below the horizon

Is there anywhere to park your car in the evening where you can see the beach? Want to come and watch the sunset
Skrevet 1. juli 2023
You can't see the beach from the car parks, but some of the car parks aren't far away. The closest is the NT Car Park at end of Victoria Rd

Please can you recommend places to stay in or near to Formby that are dog friendly but suitable for a person with limited mobility (would need a ground floor bedroom or a lift). Thank you

I went loads of times and we didn’t find the toilet so we parked on the sand down the hill so you go up hill to get to the beach where to find the toilets
Skrevet 7. august 2020
There are toilets on the hill with limited time parking spaces by them, however, as the previous answer did state, they are currently closed due to the COVID outbreak (at least they were the last time we visited).
Skrevet 19. august 2020
Yes there are toilets at Formby Beach where National Trust Squirrel Sanctuary is. There is a disabled toilet (key operated) along with male and female toilets. Baby changing facilities are in womens toilet and presumably in men's also (?) toilets are usually very busy with queuing - I don't know what system is in place for coronavirus for can imagine there being long waits.
Skrevet 4. august 2020
Hi is there any other way onto the beach other than that massive climb up that hill I have a bad back and struggle to climb , but absolutely love Formby beach , if there is can I have a few directions to it please
Thank u x
Skrevet 30. mai 2020
No and it’s not worth the traffic, 2 hour queues etc as when the sun shines on a hot day car parks are full and parking nearby is a problem and it’s a trek. If you can get on the beach it’s a disgusting mess with all the rubbish, broken glass etc left from people who’ve been there before. And there’s no toilets so you can guess what else is left behind. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful place normally.
