Actually I was doing a Ponant cruise and one option was to pay 168 dollars for 30 minutes ride.
If you not sitting in the first few rows you see hardly anything going over the rapids four - 5 times that's it
I had a much better view from our zodiacs
The companies that run this must make a huge profit from gullible people

Highly recommend this trip. It runs like clockwork and is not rushed but moves at a great pace. We did the full day tour and went through the falls once before returning to the pontoon and then we were able to go back and through the falls later to see how they had changed. We ended up riding through them about 8 times. If you can, book to do the flight in the morning when it is cooler and the car ride in the afternoon when you are tired and can just chill. It is a beautiful place, and it was good to learn a lot from the guides also. About 6 sharks came to the boat for feeding time and it was great to see them up close. Plenty of food for breakfast, I'd take a bread roll to make an egg and bacon roll if I went again.

Did the full-day drive/ fly tour.

This was on our bucket list and didn’t disappoint it was a full 12 hour day full of things to do. A lot of boating and sea plane rides, mainly boating! Highly recommend worth ever cent! The scenery was spectacular! Thank you

I felt safe and comfortable on the flight from Broome to Horizontal Falls. I felt unsafe with 3 sea planes concurrently flying by the Horizontal Falls and 2 sea planes concurrently flying by Cape Leveque at low altitudes and high banking angles. I felt safe, but not comfortable on the flight back from Cape Leveque to Broome, because our pilot stayed below the cloud cover to increase scenery observation which also increased turbulence.

Horizontal waterfall, a phenomenon caused by the extreme tides in the region, was touted as a real thrill. We went via Coral Geographer on a 2 week cruise and this was one of the included expeditions. We went through the "Falls" on a zodiac.
There were actually 2 "falls". Due to some problem in the past, the Geographer zodiac crew only felt comfortable going through the wider, less thrilling section. We approached the other area but told couldn't go through: "too dangerous". I'm sure we were better safe than sorry but I can't say there was much to what we did. Equivalent to at best, class 1 white water rapids.
The water flume rides at, say, Disney Land or Cedar Point Amusement Parks were more exciting. Although the scenery here far surpassed those latter places!

A must visit if your up near Derby. Highly recommend. We stayed overnight fantastic at the falls. We couldnt go through the falls due to a accident which was disappointing, we felt as though we had missed out on something special. Accommodation and meals fantastic. Staff great

Stayed overnight on the pontoon and the staff were wonderful. So generous and helpful and kind, food was wonderful and the whole area is just so incredibly beautiful.

This was one of the highlights of our cruise from Darwin to Broome. With large tide variations of up to 10 metres, our cruise ship spent the day in Talbot Bay, and we had two opportunities to view the falls, at high and low tide. Using Zodiacs, our guides took us into the mouth of the falls, but didn’t continue into the falls. This was simply stunning and showed the full force of the water rushing into and out of the falls. Definitely worth the trip.

I was picked up directly from my accommodation, early in the morning.
We were taken to the airport where we were briefed on our flight in the sea plane to Talbot Bay . Once there, we had morning tea and were divided in to 2 groups. 1 group did a cruise into a nearby creek while the other watched the shark feeding.....free- living sharks which were freely able to access the small confined feeding zone. The option was there to swim in an adjoining area to observe while the sharks were being fed.Then we swapped to the other activity .
Information provided on both activities was interesting and informative.
Groups combined to do the Horizontal falls.
This is very fast flowing water, caused by strong tides moving through a narrow gorge (20m) and then one not much wider than the boat.
You do the 2 falls, twice, once in each direction, before heading back to the pontoon and then onto the seaplane. The plane took the scenic route back.
A bucket list item, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I am going to be in Derby about mid July 2018 and was wondering what is the best time to see the Horizontal Falls. Can someone help me as I am getting conflicting information. TIA

The Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventure Tours Operate from Mid March to 1 November out of Broome and 12 May to 1 November out of Derby, Scenic Flights are available all year weather dependent from Derby and Broome. Just be aware that they are not best viewed over neap tides.
The Horizontal Falls are not dependant on rainfalls as it is a tidal attraction.

The Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures do not operate over neap tides when the variance between high and low tide is at the minimum. The Falls only need a couple of meters of movement for the falls to become effective but saying that if the drop in the second gap is too big they will not take you through that gap. At high and low times the water level equalizes and you will get to go through both gaps but you will not experience the force of the tide at these times.

Hi John, we will be in Derby approx 2nd week of August and wanting to do the falls tour from Derby rather then Broome as we are wanting to do Cape Leveque and Cygnet Bay separately from Broome. Which tour operator did you use. Any info very much appreciated. Kind regards Jules.

If you are wanting just a scenic flight over the Horizontal Falls then the operator in Derby is Northwest Bush Pilots. If you are wanting to seaplanes where you land in Talbot Bay and then have the boats through the falls, the you want Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures, they do a day tour or and overnight tour out of Derby. Please feel free to contact the Derby Visitor Centre for more information on these and other tours on 9191 1426.
