The castle was surrounded with green nature and nicely preserved walls and steps. Especially in spring time the blossom trees would even more enchanted the landscape. From the top of the castle there is a beautiful observation point with a view of the whole town and sea. However their a bugs which make lots of noise disturbing the peace and quiet. In addition you can’t walk on the walls and just get to view them.

I visited for sightseeing. It takes about 30 minutes. First, buy a ticket at the Gusuku Exchange Center and go to Nakijin Castle Ruins. First of all, I was impressed by its splendid outer enclosure and photographed it. From Heirō-mon Gate, walk up gently sloping cobblestones to the main bailey (Honmaru).
The main bailey not only overlooks the outer bailey, but also the surrounding sea and trees, giving us a wonderful view ⭐︎ Looking down the bailey, I got the impression that it resembles the Great Wall of China and was moved by its splendid construction once again. It is small in scale compared to the ruins of Nakagusuku Castle, but the view from the outer bailey and the main bailey is still wonderful and I am glad I was able to see it.
After a visit to Gusuku, you can buy souvenirs and visit the Historical and Cultural Center. If you have a ticket to the Nakijin Castle Ruins, you can also visit the Historical and Cultural Center, so if you have time, please come. Here you can see ceramics and other items excavated at the castle ruins.

It is said to have been the castle of the Hokuzan King, who existed before the establishment of the Ryukyu Kingdom. It is designated as a national historic site and part of the World Heritage Site. We were blessed with good weather on the day and the East China Sea was beautiful. It is much larger than I expected. I think it is worth seeing.

It is a World Heritage Site. When I walked along the route, I realized that the castle walls were larger than I had expected. Also, perhaps because of the surrounding mountains and the ocean that can be seen in the distance, I personally think that it would be fair to call it the Machu Picchu of Okinawa. I visited in the middle of January, and the cherry blossoms were already starting to bloom.

There are multiple signs all over the carpark and near the entrance that this is a paid site. It costs 600¥ per adult but it didn’t look like much so I did not enter, it was mostly stone walls.

I visited this castle ruins on the Motobu Peninsula in December 2012, but I came back a little earlier this year during the cherry blossom season. When I came before, it wasn't the summer tourist season or cherry blossom season, so the parking lot was empty, but as it was cherry blossom season, the parking lot was crowded and I was directed to a parking lot a little further away.
From there, I walked to a place with shops and other things and bought a ticket to enter the castle. Please note that tickets are not sold at the entrance, so if you don't buy one at the shop in advance, you will have to turn back from the entrance. Even though it was cherry blossom season, it was a weekday, so I was able to take a leisurely stroll while looking at the cherry blossoms inside the castle. Compared to when I came before, I feel that it's best to come during cherry blossom season.

I had mistakenly thought that only a few stone walls remained, as they are often seen in tourist photos. It's huge!
The volunteer guide told me that the Ryukyu Islands were the first to use stone walls, which I was impressed by how advanced they were at the time.
After hearing various explanations, I was surprised at how vast the area was!
The volunteer guide who was in charge of us was from another prefecture, and I thought it was amazing how he was able to read the Okinawan dialect and stone monuments in detail and explain them to me.
You can apply for the guided tour just inside the ticket booth.
It seems that there is one guide for one group.
I thought that it would be a typical scheduled guided tour where people would gather and gather, but if you are planning to participate, please check.
