On the way from Ella to Tangalle we stopped off for an afternoon safari in Bundala National Park (wetland). Our driver spontaneously organized this safari with Chaminda. We had a nice, relaxed safari, as there are not many jeeps in the beautiful but quite small park. A half-day safari is completely sufficient. In addition to many birds, crocodiles and golden jackals, we were also able to observe a family of elephants and sea turtles coming up for air on the coast.

We had an amazing safari through Bundula nationalpar with Chaminda. He is so patient, experienced and we loved his kind being! We saw crocodiles, 4 elephants, hundreds of beautiful birds, monkeys, peacocks.. 10/10 recommend!

We had a great safari in Bundala with Chaminda. I contacted him on whatsapp the day before and he also helped to arranged pick up at our hotel in tangalle and dropped us at our next hotel in Tissa after safari at a good price. We did afternoon safari since it fitted best with our timings and it was magical. Chaminda was a great guide, pointing out many birds. We also saw many elephants and crocodiles. Highly recommend.

Bundala was temporarily closed, so we booked a half-day Yala tour with Chaminda instead. He is an excellent guide. He promptly picked us up from our hotel in Ambalantota at 5 am and drove us there (and back) himself.
Chaminda is very observant and quick to spot animals while driving. He was very skilled at tracking animal movements through the park and was also patient while allowing us to photograph different creatures on the way. We were very lucky and were able to see a leopard, elephant, jackal, crocodiles, deer and several species of interesting birds (hornbills, spoonbills, pelicans etc.) in just three hours!
It was so worth it, and certainly a very memorable experience for us ! Definitely recommend touring Yala with Chaminda.

Zum Abschluss unseres Urlaubs haben wir uns spontan entschieden, nochmal eine Safari zu unternehmen. Zuvor hatten wir während unserer Rundreise durch Sri Lanka bereits im Yala Nationalpark und im Udawalawe Nationalpark ein solches Erlebnis gehabt. Wir haben uns daher für den Bundala Park entschieden, da dieser relativ nahe zu unserem Hotel liegt und von den Beschreibungen her sehr interessant klingt. Jetzt mussten wir nur noch einen Guide bzw. Fahrer finden. Bei TripAdvisor sind wir hier auf Chaminda gestoßen und da er durchwegs sehr gute Bewertungen bekommen hat, haben wir ihn am Abend zuvor per WhatsApp (+94 71 309 5115) kontaktiert um zu fragen, ob er am nächsten Nachmittag für eine Tour frei wäre. Das war in der Tat so und da auch der Preis stimmte und auch ein Transfer vom/zum Hotel mit angeboten wurde, haben wir sofort zugesagt. Und das war auch wirklich gut so, denn die Safari war einfach großartig. Im Vergleich zu den beiden anderen Nationalparks, die größer und bekannter sind, muss sich Bundala überhaupt nicht verstecken. Und das Tolle ist, es ist bei weitem nicht so überlaufen wie z. B. Yala, denn dort geht es zum Teil in langen Kolonnen zur Safari. Wir sahen sehr viele unterschiedliche Arten von Affen, Krokodile, Elefanten, Warane, Wasserbüffel und natürlich auch Vögel, für die Bundala bekannt ist. Das heißt, wir sahen sie erst oft nur dann, wenn uns Chaminda mit seinen phantastischen Augen und seiner großen Erfahrung darauf aufmerksam gemacht hat. Zum Teil kamen wir auch sehr nahe an Tiere ran, wobei das im Falle eines großen Elefantenbullen ganz schön für einen Adrenalinschub sorgen kann. Zum Abschluss der Tour gab es noch ein kleines Picknick am Traumstrand um die warme Abendsonne noch mal richtig genießen zu können. Wir haben diese Safari Tour mit Chaminda sehr genossen und sind von seiner Freundlichkeit und seinen vielen Erklärungen absolut begeistert und können ihn daher nur wärmstens empfehlen.
Vielen Dank Chaminda, für diese großartigen dreieinhalb Stunden Abenteuer.

We had two Safaris with Chaminda. Half day Bundala and full day in Yale Block 3. Both Days were brilliant. He is a good Animal spotter and a Nice guy. We give our warmest recommendation. Soren, Melina and two kids aged 8 and 3.

Návštěva Bundala NP s Chamindou byla skvělá volba. Na Chamindu jsme našli dobré recenze přímo na Trip Adviseru, tak jsme ho také kontaktovali a setkali se s ním před parkem.
Tento průvodce se specializuje především na ptactvo. V parku se vyskytuje opravdu mnoho druhu, a tak to bylo velmi užitečné, že nás téměř se všemi mohl seznámit.
V parku jsme mimo exotických ptáků viděli slona, krokodýlí, bůvoli, opice, pávy apod..
Pro samotný pár nás tahle zábava stála dohromady 11.000 LKR.

I recently booked a half-day Bundala, and full-day Yala tour with Chaminda and it was OK.
Our half-day in Bundala started at 5:30 but he was 10 mins late then stopped for breakfast, coffee, & a cig so we didn't get in until 7 am. I enjoyed the coffee and egg hoppers but if you want to get in earlier you should let him know you don't want this.
Once in the park, for the first half, it was pretty good but then we stopped at a
beachside cliff for a "break" during which time he mentioned his wife cooking lobsters for us. I agreed to a kilo for $3,000 and we said we'd go to his house after. It was then that I felt like we sped out of the park. Granted, it was approaching 10 but I'd have liked to drive out slower... We saw 47 species of birds. At his house, his wife cooked us a good meal with rice, coconut roti, sombol, and a pickled dish. It was awesome, no complaints there.
The next day at Yala started later, 6 am but he was 15 mins late so by the time we got tickets it was like 7:15, which is too late in my opinion because it's much more spread out than Bundala. You should try to be in at 6 if possible. Ok, so we got a guide, who sat up front with Chimanda. We saw an elephant in the road with 2 other vehicles in front of us. The elephant ran at the jeeps (looking for food) and in backing up we went all the way around a corner and sat and waited far away (and out of sight). I was disappointed he didn't park where we could watch the elephant. At the time I thought it was just being overly cautious, but after the whole day I feel like it speaks to something more.
Ok, so we missed awesome footage of an elephant feeling up a jeep for food...Then we proceeded to immediately get stuck in the mud for over an hour, then our helpers got stuck in the mud and we had to help them, then it was lunch time... so yeah, from 7 - 12:00 (when we arrived at lunch spot), we saw 1 elephant and 1 wild pig.... I realize these events are "random" but it annoyed me a little to waste the entire morning over something that could have been prevented AND planned for better. The wench didn't work, the ropes snapped, there was no plank or shovel in the trucks, etc... I'm from Maine and have done safaris in Africa, he should be more prepared for this kind of thing. (Did I mention that during our first mud encounter, our hired guide from the park ditched us to go "work another job at the bungalows" but "regarding this matter", lol. So now we have no second set of eyes that I paid for).
Lunch is from 12:30 to 2 pm (you can't leave sooner) so bring something to do in this downtime.
After lunch we went a little further into the park and I spotted elephants, with a baby! I wanted to stay and watch, but I Jeeps had started racing past to go to a leopard they heard was out. I had previously TOLD Chaminda that I did not want to be involved in the leopard race, tourist traffic. He agreed but as soon as he saw them going, I was told "two minutes to see leopard" and we SPED OFF before I could even buckle my daughter in. She fell on to my lap and we raced away from the elephants after less than a minute. :( I was SUPER disappointed to leave, and of course, no leopard. We just parked and waited because "sometimes it walks by here". Obviously I was not impressed and after 30 mins asked to go back. You could tell Chaminda didn't want to travel far from those spots he knew for leopards because we circled back to them every 30 mins or so despite having told him this ahead of time, I didn't want this. We did see a leopard asleep in a tree, but it wasn't worth the "chase" which was actually quite scary. My kid almost cried and talked about it all day after that telling him "not to speed again". We decided to end early at 5:20, it was a long bumpy day.
In the end, I realized that elephants are not much of a focus here unfortunately and Chaminda, didn't know Yala as well as I thought he did. I also don't suspect he didn't understand as much English as I assumed as there were several communication mishaps.
I can say that in Bundala he was a very good bird guide. In Yala I was not impressed but if your focus is a leopard maybe he's the guy for you. Lunch was great, he helped with a car to Ella (5k) and herbs.

We took an afternoon Safari through Bundala NP which we thoroughly enjoyed. Bundala is beautiful and very quiet, compared to Yala. Birdwatchers in particular will love it (I know, because I'm a bird watcher myself). Chaminda was an excellent guide who showed us several species I hadn't seen in Sri Lanka previously, such as Caspian plover, pied kingfisher or Indian thick-knee. Someone recommended Chaminda to me. I did Bundala
and Yala Safari with him. Chaminda is a great guide and can spot every animal big and small. He is also kind and has a lovely wife and daughter. We communicated trough WhatsApp +94 71 309 5115 but you can also email him at chamindaweerasooriya@gmail.com. Bundala is a beautiful national park smaller and less busier than Yala. Safari there is very enjoyable and beautiful. Chaminda knows every corner of the park and doesn’t miss even a fly.

yes. We can arrange accomodate in one jeep. I also pick up and drop again you toyour hotel. there in no recommended wear you can wears as your like but there had a very dry climate. i think simple wear is suitabale.

If you com from colombo get "Tissamaharama" bus or you come from ella get " matara" bus get down on bundala junction .Then the entrance is 1.5 km from there .The infant doesn't wart to get the ticket .There is no restaurant or catc in the park .
