I took my binoculars so that I could look up to see Bonnie Prince Charlies face on the monument better.

A great place to stop and learn about Scotland's history. Visit the Monument and further up the road is the Prince Charlie Cairn, (not well marked) where the Bonnie Prince left Scotland after the defeat at Culloden. This was a key event in the history and direction of Scotland's future

A wonderful well kept Glenfinnan Monument that stands at the head of Loch Shiel, framed by the hills and woods of Moidart, Ardgour and Lochaber. The Monument was erected in 1815 by Alexander MacDonald of Glenaladale as a tribute to the loyal Jacobites who rallied behind Bonnie Prince Charlie in his attempt to regain the British crown for the Stuarts in the 1745 uprising.

Between Glenfinnan and Arisaig there is a main road sign reading Prince Charles' Cairn. A very short walk takes you to the Cairn marking the spot where reputedly Charles Edward Stewart departed Scotland never to be seen again. After the disaster that was Culloden he speng many months avoiding his Redcoat pursuers before leaving for France. As the song says "Lochaber no More". This is fine to see but the real bonus here is the stupendous views out over Loch Nan--na-Uamh, pardon my gaelic misspelling 🤔 On a good day a photographer's dream. On Wednesday that dream became reality. Please take your time and seek out this wonderful spot. It would be a crying shame to miss it. Look at these amazing pictures

We visited here on a very rainy day, as we walked towards the monument there was a bit of a clearing. It made for an even more dramatic view.

There is a small parking lot that you will need to pay to park. A gift shop is located at the base of the parking, you can get more information about the history of the monument.

I was truly moved being able to stand where there was so much history made. This is where the Bonnie Prince Charlie starting planning the last Scottish Jacobite uprising, ending of course at Culloden.

I would highly recommend making a visit to Glenfinnan to this see this amazing place!!

We really enjoyed seeing this monument and the beautiful Loch it is on. We arrived early and managed to get a park without too much trouble. You do have to pay for parking here but you get to visit this memorial as well as see the Viaduct. The monument is good and the history of the Jacobites is compelling.

We went to see the steam train go over the Glenfidden Viaduct and on returning noticed the Bonnie Prince Charles monument. Ana amazing structure managed by the National Trust. being members we didn't hesitate to enter and climb the narrow steps t the top and take in the surrounding views. Excellent and well worth being a National Trust member.

The monument is really not accessible to the public except for a fairly hefty fee. Being of Scottish blood, I just was not going to pay for going up the monument. Walking around the base is interesting but that is as far as we got.
