This is a great place to get coffee and a pee heading north out of Wellington, or lunch heading either way. Coffee very good. Service pretty good. Tables outside are great in today's climate. Food is good with interesting Dutch items. The windmill is next door, and is running again if the wind is in the zone, although you can't visit upstairs until Level 1. They have good stuff in the shop; cheese disappointing but carbohydrates are very tempting.

Nice browsing in country town Foxton. The upper viewing decks unfortunately closed due to Covid lockdown, but we enjoyed browsing and purchasing food and gifts in the shop.

I am surprised to see a real Dutch windmill in New Zealand!
When we arrived, the windmill was moving. When we climbed up, it stopped. And we couldn't go to the front side of the windmill as in Netherlands. I am not sure it was for our safety or not. I have been to front side of the moving ones in the Netherlands and it was an unforgettable moment!
The size of De Molen is smaller than in the Netherlands ones but it is still amazing. It looks very similar inside.
You can go up with 3 levels after paying NZD2 for donation (self-guide tour). The price is reasonable. It was a pity that we didn't have much time in Foxton so we can't stay inside for too long. I think kids would enjoy the first level very much with different wooden toys/games. The decoration inside was nice with posters and different stuffs. The stairs inside is rather steep so we must be careful.
The ground floor is a shop. You can buy the wooden tulips, clogs, food, cheese and so on. I love the clogs with Miffy (so Dutch!)
I am glad that we have stopped there!

Stopped here with our 5 yr old grandson. Fantastic activity for all ages. Bit of a hairy climb up the 3 levels to the grinding room, where you can watch a flour mill at work, but well worth the $2pp charge. Grandson enjoyed playing the traditional Dutch games on display. They also have their own flour for sale and a variety of Dutchfood items, clogs etc. Well worth the visit to the windmill and Foxton in general.

It is a replica of 17th century Dutch Windmill, so the visitors are able to feel and see what is inside of outside of this Dutch Icon in small town, Foxton. Visitors can see the traditional way how to ground the flour here, the grinding stone, the working part of rotating mechanism, the 100% stone ground flour made this windmill. Visitors need to be able to climb through the stairs to see the upper floors, no lift available. At the upper floor, the outside balcony gives the magnificent view of Foxton town ship. At the ground floor, souvenirs, Dutch groceries and flour products are available to be purchased. This attraction run by non-profit organization to upkeep and operate De Molen. Fantastic.

This is a must-see when you visit Foxton, and the surrounding areas too. Very good Dutch goodies on sale made it a worthwhile trip. Very safe too.

This complex well worth a visit. Windmill most interesting and unusual an d includes small shop. Entire area clean and well-presented and
looks attractive and tidy. Suitable for group visits, or for families. Good access for disabilities.
Don't miss the Dutch Oven Cafe. Excellent food (the lemon and blueberry scones are to die for) and courteous, helpful service.
Good range of food available for a lunch or a snack, and food nicely presented.. Will definitely be back for further visits.

I have to admit that I usually drive past Foxton without stopping but was after some of the Munzees hiding there, waiting to be captured. I realised I had never been inside the windmill. Now I can't wait to go back and take my grandkids with me. I may have gotten carried away in the shop (Chapatti flour, chocolate cherry pralines.......) and then I paid $2 so I could climb the (extremely narrow and steep) stairs to the floors above. It was the best $2 I have ever spent. The machinery etc was no doubt very interesting to many people but I fell in love with being able to stand outside and feel the movement of the huge blades. It was amazing. I could have stood there for hours. This is a perfect spot to take a break and let the kids experience something unique in NZ.
