Lovely lighthouse and ocean views
feb. 2021 • Par
The Cape Schanck Lighthouse is worth a visit, nice big car park with easy walking access to the lighthouse and keepers cottages. The lighthouse has limited opening hours on weekends so do your research if you want to enter/climb inside. Terrific ocean views but pretty windy. It is a National Park so no dogs allowed (even if in the car), public toilets at car park. Walks along stable paths, boardwalks and stairs offer additional views but some level of fitness is required. Definitely worth the time to visit.

Great views from lots of viewpoints on many walking trails with the light house and light house keepers residence to see from the outside. Tours available (if booked).

Amazing views
nov. 2020
Lovely easy attraction close to the carpark (less than a minute walk). The lighthouse usually offers tours but you can still enjoy outside without taking tour.. nice lookout located just down from lighthouse.. large grassed picnic area

TIP: bring plenty of water from home as warning signs around to not drink water at site

Fabulous views of the Mornington Peninsula's dramatic southern coastline
mai 2020
The Cape Schanck Lighthouse Reserve at the southernmost tip of Mornington Peninsula is a real treasure. Obviously the historic lighthouse is a draw card, although the reserve's clifftop walks and coastal views are quite spectacular. You can trek from the top of Cape Schanck, down the steps and pathways to Pulpit Rock and the Black Pebble Beach. A great visit for families. Look out for whales between May and October.

Cape Shanck Lighthouse

Visited on Friday 14th February, it was great to be able to check out the lighthouse and surronding buildings, pity it wasn't open the day we were there. The views from the top would be amazing.

Stunning views and history [Signal Tower Walk in this review too]
feb. 2020
Pre COVID-19 February

After attempting the boardwalk, this walk to the lighthouse, museum [closed on the day I went] and Signal Tower Walk [also in this review] was quite tame. Even the SignalTower Walk had about 50 up somewhat easier, but no railings for support. [Accessible from the carpark]

The Lighthouse walk:
Not a long walk from the carpark, quiet, level walking paths. You walk along a path and then through a gate and you see an oval with some old style houses around the border, this includes a museum and old abandoned homestead, worth a look. On the left are a few picnic tables, a great place for a rest or lunch.

Walk left along the path, you cannot miss the lighthouse with its red dome on top. It is a sturdy structure and there are signs around with the history of it to read. If you walk just past it you will find some lookout points which make for spectacular photos.

Signal Tower Walk:
Walking back away from the lighthouse towards the museum you will see a sign just to the left of the museum that leads to the steps up to Signal Tower. The walk / climb up is light and the steps at the start are spread apart and as you get to the top they become smaller. For those with stability issues this isn't a great walk unless you have assistance of some sort. Once at the top the views are just spectacular and worth capturing on film and in photos.

TIPS:
As you walk up stop every few steps and look behind you [or do this when you walk back down] - there are great shots to be had of the lighthouse, but also some spectacular trees on weather side of the path.
Wear sturdy shoes, layers for changing weather, hat, sunscreen and insect repellant. Water is a must too.

Great places to visit once this all goes away.

Get there at sunrise

Not a difficult place to get to. Easy walk down to view the Lighthouse. Probably best viewed early morning or sunset for photos.

Stunning Views
feb. 2020
This delightful lighthouse is perched high on the cliff top and looks over glorious views. The lighthouse was renovated during the 70's - 80's and was the first lighthouse in Victoria with stone steps. There is a museum in the old assistants' quarters. Mark sure you go along the track to take is the stunning views.

Spectacular views

Fantastic views near the lighthouse which has been well preserved. The route there has one of the most interesting road signs we have seen, even in Australia, warning you there may be 4 types of wildlife on the road. In fact we were told at dusk Kangaroos can be seen.
