Family atmosphere on beaches, streets and places of interest. The water is spectacular, clean as few places. The amazing views. Very very nice sand. I recommend for the bath to use escarpments. It should be noted that the gastronomic offer, is good, with many flat restaurants where you eat very well. IT'S NOT A CHEAP TOWN. But it's affordable. THERE ARE MANY ACTIVITIES TO DO. If anyone gets bored, it's because they want to.

Very nice village, small steep coves. Beautiful walks to do along the beaches. But it's hard to park.

If there is an iconic song in our country about the Mediterranean, this is the eponymous song of Joan Manuel Serrat, composed in 1971, so he just fulfilled his golden weddings. An album written in Calella de Palafrugell, a small fishing village, its work refuge and source of inspiration, there at the Batlle Hotel in that beautiful town on the Costa Brava. At the time and at only 28 years old, lived a very productive period from which the song and the album "Mediterráneo", considered by Rolling Stone magazine a while ago as the best Spanish pop rock song of all time.
Well, what better to celebrate the more than half century of this song than to visit and walk CALELLA DE PALAFRUGELL, one of the most picturesque villages that can still be seen on a route along the Costa Brava. It is an old fishing village with less than a thousand inhabitants, which maintains all that charm that I was looking for (although it is true that in summer it loses some of its charm because of overtourism). Located in a privileged location, on a rocky coast and surrounded by small coves of crystal clear waters, this ancient fishing village has been able to retain all its charm thanks to keeping in perfect condition the old part characterized by the narrow streets and the white-fronted fishing houses.
A town that hooks at first sight, with that symbiosis of sea, rocks, white houses that climb the mountain, sand and boats. Because in its most central beach of Port Bo you can still see on the sand the boats of the fishermen, and therefore also this enclave is also known as the beach of Barcas. And between the white arches of some houses (known as “les voltes”) originates a truly unforgettable stamp. But other small coves should be discovered, such as Calau, Port Pelegri, the Canadell or Port de la Malaespina.
And in the walk through the urban precinct we find narrow streets and houses with bright white facades, where the simplicity and whiteness of the church of Sant Pere stands out, with its square tower.
It is worth visiting to enjoy the views of Playa del Canadell and Port Bo, from the Mirador de Manel Juanola i Reixach, a Palafrugell pharmacist who created the formula of the famous Juanola Pills (lifelong, of course), or from Punta del Burricaires. And if you have time it is advisable to do the Camino de Ronda, a walking tour of sea and coast of 1.5 km that brings us to Llafranc, a beautiful fishing village of white houses and somewhat quieter than its famous neighbor.
Calella de Palafrugell is a picturesque town that accumulates two attractions every summer: the Cap Roig Festival that concentrates in the Botanical Garden of Cap Roig very prominent artists; and on the other, the Cantada de Habaneras that takes place on the aforementioned beach of Port Bo in early July, those songs that refer to sailors and emigrants on their Trips to Cuba.
In short, one of the best coastal experiences on the Costa Brava, essence of the Mediterranean.

It is a beach that I do not like because it has fine stone and it is impossible to walk along the shore. Smoking is forbidden on the beach but neither controlled nor supervised. Most people smoke. One afternoon we had to leave because there was a group of people HHG three hookahs and it was impossible to breathe. And so every day. It's a beach I won't return to

The sand is rocky, water is clean, deep directly one meter from the edge. The city itself focused on Russian tourists. They're all over Calella. Never coming back.

This area looks amazing. Like from a postcard. But the beach was little pebbles instead of sand and that bothered my feet a lot. The water was beautiful and basically perfect.

Beautiful area , lido walk from Calella to Lafranc with nice restaurants and cafes.
In May some were closed weekdays as it was early season but weekends most open.
Calau restaurant very much worth a visit , skewered Tapas, such a variety to sample and pay by skewer/cocktail sticks at end.
Plenty of ice cream shops too !
Very clean and feels safe even late at night.
Small beach areas which I can imagine will be busy at peak season.
Walk along to Lafranc for watersports and slightly bigger beach.
Not an "English Breafast " sign , or British beers sign anywhere , unspoiled, slightly up market part of Spain.
Some lovely looking apartments available overlooking the sea , friends found theirs on airb&b .

Gorgeous beach town accessible from the Coastal Path. Mostly (95%) French tourists! Friendly folks, astounding views. Water a bit too cold for us in early May.

Hi, I am planning on visiting Calella end of April first week in May..travelling alone as I do...can you advise me re public transport..the apartment I have seen and like is in neighbouring Lafranc....are there buses...I do not want to hire a car this time...and dont want to walk miles as 69 and bit of arthritis..though reasonable distances fine....
Also I note you say beach is pebbly are there other local sandy beaches...easily accessible???

Looking for an apartment or condo with easy beach access since we have small children and don't want to walk across any streets or down steps... I don't know the area at all but we wanted to book beach front, on beach itself. Is this even possible in calella? thanks!
Skrevet 22. mai 2018
Most villages are steep, have steps to the beach or a broad walk. Llafranc would be the pic but its hotels alongbthe front. There is very little traffic and it would be easy with kids. It is a bit more expensive and quieter than other spots but good for kids.

Hi is there somewhere local to buy an inflatable bed and an umbrella?
Skrevet 9. april 2018
One street behind near the parking. Plenty choices of Made in China stuff.
Skrevet 10. april 2018
Ci sono spiagge attrezzate a Calella? Se sì, quanto costano approssimativamente gli ombrelloni? Grazie in anticipo per le info
Skrevet 20. november 2017
