We came to take a look round and had a short walk in the garcen. We also had lunch/brunch in the cafe. Very pleasant altogether, especially easy with a baby.

House and gardens located just off Bexleyheath junction of A2 and at the bottom of Gravel Hill. Lots of parking on site and parkland opposite as well as surrounding the historic Tudor house along with a Miller and Carter Steakhouse, a separate Tea Room with gift shop and restrooms. The historic house closed at time of visit for renovation but gardens are still worth a visit for a stroll around with some great large topiary and formal gardens as well as parkland along the river Cray. There’s also a exotic plant greenhouse (closed at time of visit for winter renovation) with a small garden centre and traditional walked vegetable gardens. Nice green space for a lazy morning/afternoon stroll with historic interest.

Having lived locally for a number of years I had kept saying I should visit.
The gardens have free parking and are free to enter. The formal flower gardens are pretty and relaxing to walk through. Then there is a large flat park area ideal for picnics, plenty of families creating a safe atmosphere.
The nice cafe with seating beside a pretty river Cray, the sound of the water is so relaxing.
The house was closed due to Covid, according to notices it costs £8.
Overall a pleasant couple of hours.

Really lovely area to visit for couples and families, the grounds are well maintained with plenty of areas for picnics. Be mindful of the geese wanting to share your lunch lol

Lovely gardens and woodland to walk around, huge amount of space. Great for a picnic. But this year's trail was disaapointing - tiny fairy doors, up high in trees where little ones couldn't see them. And for the fairy trail we expected, at the very least, pictures of fairies. Informative signs and suggestions may be OK for older children, but not little ones.

The gardens in Hall place were fabulous. We also visited the butterfly enclosure which was an absolute joy to have beautiful varieties of butterflies flying around us. Anuk was really friendly and helpful. We will be going back.

Wont recommend. They charge £4 just to see few owls. Although entry is free. Not many benches to sit. People were not wearing mask even when walking closer in the gardens.

We visited Dino May. It was only £2.50(plus 50p for a pencil) so didn't expect much. But it was absolutely rubbish. Maybe dinosaur models or something a bit more Interactive to hold the children's interest. Our 6 year old was not impressed.

Hi, I would like to picnic at your gardens with about 20 people together, to celebrate a birthday. Will I be allowed to bring some foldable chairs to keep close to the picnic tables available (assuming you do have picnic tables)?

There used to be some picnic tables in the gardens I didn’t see any the last time I went! There is plenty of room to sit outside so I would ring them and ask if they have any tables and is it possible to use them! Worth a try! Hope you have a great day!!!

May I bring my well behaved dog into the grounds ( on a lead of course!) and would I be able to have lunch on the terrace outside the cafe, again with the dog?

Hi, sadly not due to a bye law in place. Dogs are welcome in the surrounding playing fields but not into the house estate itself.
Is it open today bank holiday and is there any entrance to pay

Gardens and greenhouse are free, there is an entry fee to the house unless you belong to the local friends group or English Heritage. There is also a fee to see the owl or the butterfly houses.

I am constantly harassed by other large dogs off the lead when my dog is on the lead. If I say anything the usual answer is my dog doesn’t need to be on a lead. Trouble is my dog is very nervous and although she is very small if she growls because she is frightened I am worried that they will attack her. Is there not a law about them being on a lead!

Have you considered buying one of the specialist leads that warn others your dog is nervous? Check out yellow dog uk Generally a growl is a warning to others to back off and your dog is perfectly within her rights to give this response to a rude intruder. It is very unusual for a dog that is off lead to respond aggressively in that situation.

No Dogs allowed in the gardens but there is an area you can walk them on the other side of the car park. Just follow to the end go over bridge - a lovely walk along the river. Then you can use the facilities afterwards or go into Miller & Carter for a pint.
