It was an amazing experience to walk on the hills, it is nearby to sunset point in Kasauli, in fact sunset is more clearly visible from here instead of sunset point due to huse rush and small area at sunset point.
Shimla and other cities are clearly visible from this point by glowing bulb lights in the night.

Gilbert trail is one of the best experiences at Kasauli. If you want to do this you should start before 5 from the market place towards the trail. The trail has two points, the higher one is actually the Gilbert Point and the lower one is the sunset point on the same trail. Winter sunset is between 5.30-5.45 PM. Its Beautiful because the sun will disappear in the sky ( higher mountains) and once it disappears it will get dark in the next 10min. ENJOY

This is the best / highlight of the Kasauli, we visited during the month of Oct 22 and were awe struct by the beauty of the valley and the colorful wild flowers all along. Most of the crowd walks from the kasauli parking to the first set point which is close to 1-5 to 2 kms with slightly steep roads but the real beauty lies post that. Keeping walking along the road for another 750 meters and there is the entrance to the Gilbert Nature Trail/ walk path. This is just amazing and absolute bliss for us nature lovers. Carry just a water bottle and enjoy the views. We walked along the path for close to 2 kms and could not reach the end as we had to head back but I totally would have loved to get to the end. Since this was start of winters(oct), we went around the noon time and got back by 3:30 pm as it started to get cloudy. if you have very young kids(less than 5-6 years), kindly hold on to them as the path gets narrow post a distance and edge of the valley is not too far. This was post monsoon so it was green covered mountains through out and wild colorful flowers all along, its like a fairy land(check out the pics/ videos below).
There is option of local taxis for oldies/ parents with very young kids who do not wish to climb the steep path.

A very peaceful walk, track was not having height but a simple walk in nature on muddy track, you have mountain on one side and valley on other. Very peaceful and refreshing. You should carry your food items, no vendors allowed in all these points of Kasauli due to Military areas.

A great place for a family trek. Wonderful sunset views and great weather. Kids could easily do the walk.

This trail is a perfect jungle walk in the mountains above 6200 ft . You will love the pristine pine breeze & open sky. Do visit Monki point & the Sunset point at the end of it . A must if you happen to visit Kasauli

This 1.5m trail is a little narrow a part of the ways and it hugs the cliffs on one side and gives you expansive valley views on the other. It does require some agility as parts of it are somewhat gravelly and require you to be careful. But the views are gorgeous!

This is a must ..if you go to Kasauli...enjoyed the weather..the greenery ..all away from the hustle bustle of the cities...a very serene and enjoyable experience.. especially if you go with your loved one

Its a mild trek/walk thru the woods. It can get very windy here so do carry your head wear because the wind can get very cold. The views are stunning and on a clear day you can see cities far below. Go right upto the Army Holiday Home and return .

What would be the best place to take hotel in Kasauli??
Like some center point from where we can connect to everything like market , food , activities to do.

hi yogesh, there are many hotel options but if you want to stay in peace with an atmosphere of home away from home... opt for kashi villa... old charm but neatly done and has a good location and away from rush... thanks.amit

Definitely safe.
I took my 3 year old with me. Just hold their hand.
She walked almost all of it and actually enjoyed a lot.
Its a nice scenic track, about 3-4 feet wide with bushes/plants on the sides.
After 1 km or so, there was a big gap (due to some mud slide), you may not be able to cross that with a kid. Till that its perfectly fine.

I guess any time would be a good time. Depends on the season. I went during monsoon .... around 10 am. Amazing play of mist and sunlight.
During clear sky and warm days a cap and sunglasses would be advantageous. Keep umbrella on a rainy day as u might not find a proper shade in the trail.

entire kasauli has budget accomodation. better to stay in town proper if u dont have private vehicle. from there can do trails

If you are aware of the difference the winter and summer season brings to a hill station and you enjoy the chill, then yes why not. If you are lucky and the sun is out it would be more than just worth it.

Manki point is a restricted Air force area. you have log before going (no cameras or phones allowed). I did not go up so I do not know how much time is required for going up and returning. From the base of manki point, gibert trail is just 20-30 mins by walk. there is a short cut indicated by a fancy dust bin. Ask the guard or any local at manki pt they will tell you. Gilbert trail leads to back of base of manki pt. However, you will not be allowed in as it restricted. The sunset point is not great, you can get a better view from suicide point at Gilbert's trail. you will anyway cross sunset pt on returning from Gilbert trail.
