Drancy was the largest internment and deportation facility in all of France. Something like 90% of the (roughly) 80,000+ Jews arrested in France passed through here en route to Auschwitz. Only 10% of them survived the extended ordeal.
If you are a student of the holocaust, the relative of a survivor, or just want to bear witness to the memory of the gruesome events of World War II, this site and museum in the Paris suburbs is worth your time.
The documentation and multimedia presentation to our excellent. It is also very moving to tour the youth detention center which is now an apartment complex that is full of life.
I highly recommend visiting on Sunday for the 3 PM guided tour in French. If you have a group that would like it to her in another language, call the museum and see if they can arrange a special tour.

Visited here as part of a leger battlefield tour.
It’s a very moving place and still has some of the original buildings left that are now lived in.
There is a lovely memorial with a railway carriage in front of what would of been the entrance to the camp,
There is a very informative museum across the road from the site and is worth visiting.
We should never forget these things.

A voir.

This is an incredible museum. I've always known that my grandmother and her mother spent a few weeks here and found their registration forms on the first floor. I was rather taken aback and shocked when their names were even found. The lady there was incredibly helpful and kind and printed off a number of copies for myself and my uncle, so my cousins could also have them.
We spent roughly 3 hours in total on the grounds and in the museum. The actual museum is so well thought out; there is information in a very modern and white room, written in both English and French. They also give you audio headphones where you can listen to survivor testimonies and information by simply placing the phone on the play buttons of all the videos in the room.
It is harrowing and moving and awful to imagine how people lived there; those who left were the lucky ones and being a transit camp, hundreds of men, women and children were sent off to Auschwitz.
The testimonies of the children are horrendous and there is a main video in the centre of the room that reads the letters these children wrote and then threw from the transporting wagons. None survived. It's not for the faint hearted.
I found it even more profound as both my grandmother and great grandmother were here, so the details and facts struck even closer to home.
Sadly we were so physically and emotionally drained after so many hours here that we did not get a chance to view the graffiti found in Drancy, that was on display in the basement of the building.
I regret not buying a book from the museum but I can maybe find it online.

How can I get there from CDG Airport by public transportation? After visiting in Drancy, how does one get to the village of Roissy?
Merci.

Bonsoir,
Cordialement
Michel
