A wonderful day. We spent almost three hours meandering through the house (Being a Sunday, no tours) The guides - one in each room, rotating by the hour were absolutely astounding in their passion and knowledge. I’m not particularly well educated so I probably asked some silly and maybe obvious questions. However, their patience, understanding and kindness to listen and explain was fabulous.
Thank you to Wilton House guides, you made memories I will treasure.

It would be a good idea if the Wilton House website could be kept up to date. It stated that the grounds were closed up until 16th June but re-opening from 17th June.
It also suggested that for up to date information, the site should be checked.
I struggled down on the hottest day of the year on the 17th - it was closed.
The website still states closed up until 16th June.
What is the point.

We used our National Gardens card to have 1 free entry ticket
Enjoyed walking around the extensive gardens but did not visit the house itself.
It was a bonus to see the great collection of cars.
Enjoyed coffee and cakes in the dining room. Great to sit back on sheepskins which are around the dining room.
Worth going back even just for the cakes!

For years we have driven past Wilton on way to Salisbury but recently got HHA membership.
Booked a tour online which was so easy.
Once inside felt so at ease everyone was so friendly. Be that the Ladies at reception the team in the Cafe the gardeners and lady with the cars.
However a special mention for our guide who was both interesting , knowledgeable and patient.
You could tell she was talking to you about a House she loved , with a great deal of attention to the smaller details and anecdotes about the house .
Above all though we were going through the State Rooms it always felt like a family home something I’ve rarely sensed in many of the houses I’ve visited over the years
Walked around the impeccable gardens and was able to visit the other exhibits Cars and Beaton .
Finally we had lovely tea and cake.
Thank you for a lovely afternoon

What a wonderful house.
Super guide and the house has some wonderful works of art, furniture and a great history inside with Russ giving a really good informal talk and had the answers when needed on anything asked. He even managed to stay clam with the children on the tour who's little fingers were apt to come out to pull and prod everything and who were to start with a bit distracting I managed to get past that and to be honest they were very well behaved. The tea room is excellent super food, did lunch as well. Stunning garden to walk in. GREAT DAY OUT WELL DONE WILTON HOUSE.

Lovely house and grounds but tour was incredibly rushed (40 minutes only)with no chance to look at furniture, paintings and take in the overall internal architecture.
Whilst guide was knowledgeable on the paintings in the house, glossed over talking about the furniture and artefacts. The tour needs bringing to life not just pointing out pictures on the wall.

At first glance of the website, Wilton House & Gardens doesn't look like the perfect summer day out for families with kids, but it absolutely is!
Tickets for the grounds early are relatively inexpensive compared to similar attractions in the area, and despite Covid restrictions, you can turn up and buy tickets for Grounds Entrance Only on the day.
In addition to the beautifully landscaped gardens and wide open lawns, this garden boasts an assortment of play equipment for all ages. There is a Tiny Tots (0-5 years) play area which my son loved, and countless slides, zip-lines, boat swings etc. for older children. You will struggle to get them to leave! There are also hand sanitisers stationed at the entrance to every play area (very important these days).
Picnics are encouraged, but if you do forget to bring your own, there is a lovely cafe which smells divine as you walk past! An ice cream window serves delicious treats too. The toilets are immaculate and provide added luxuries such as a choice of methods for hand drying and moisturiser!
Overall, this is the best £11 we have ever spent as a family of 3, and we will be back again soon! Highly recommended to all.

Visited gardens and cafe
The cafe was interesting with its old tables, crockery etc
Great coffee. We had lunch but I ordered quiche and the days salads but
Got two small pieces of beetroot and potato and these were the salads of the day.
Very disappointed as my friend had a sandwich and had a pile of the salads.
Very inconsistent. The young staff couldn’t answer any of our questions and were just standing around a busy restaurant.
This place could be so good, they need to have portion control or train their staff properly.

We booked a house tour and have to say, our guide was brilliant. She helped us to make the most of our house visit by imparting her vast knowledge of the architecture, ancestry and artworks. A fascinating, picturesque place to visit with well-kept grounds.

I would suggest a good 3 hours to see the house, gardens and museum. They also have a good restaurant.

Are the gardens of interest to a flower lover? i.e. are there herbaceous borders, etc, or is it a parkland type of garden?

Hi
The gardens are more park land. There are borders and a few interesting plants in the borders.
This year unfortunately with the hot weather the lawns have suffered and they are being rested.
I hope this has answered your query.

What is the cost for senior citizens.

Oxford, UK513 bidrag
£13.00 for all Concessions, and that includes Seniors. I think it is expensive but worth it. That includes the house and Gardens.
It is not necessary to buy a guidebook, as the staff there are VERY knowledgable

I will be in the area on a Saturday in mid May. It appears they are not open for tours on Saturdays (if I am reading their hours incorrectly, please advise me). If they are indeed closed on Saturdays, would I be able to still see the manor from the road if I drove there, or is the home out of view from the roadway?

Oxford, UK513 bidrag
Sorry, this answer may be too late, but I do NOT think you can see much from the road at all. Shame, but there is a very high wall all round the estate.

Yes there is, it's free too. Don't do what we did and end up in their shopping village which is a bit further up the road on the opposite side lol.
