We booked for a night's stay at the treehouse which included a 'safari' and trek. Sadly the safari was in a 40 seater bus which meant any chance of seeing wildlife was severely limited as we loudly rumbled along the road. Highlights of the tour were the dam, an old teak tree and rafting, the raft has over 10 people on and was a 10 minute row on the reservoir, the tree, whilst nice was still just a tree, the highlight of the trip a dead scorpion. The treehouse was very dilapidated, dirty and bed incredibly uncomfortable but the view was fantastic and we did see elephants in the water on the first day. Food was OK but the eating area really needs a refresh. The most annoying thing of the whole trip though was that despite paying the full price for stay, safari and trek that you HAVE to drive through a reserve in Tamil Nadu to get to Parambikulam where they will charge you the equivalent of £30 pp plus £5 for the car just to drive through. So a single night trip then cost £195. Most certainly NOT value for money.

One of the best Tiger reserve I ever seen. Very very well maintained and clear reserve.

This tiger reserve offers plenty of facilities for Tourism. And they maintaining this very nicely. No plastic at all. Very clean forest.

1. Trekking facility -
Very few forest reserves allow people to walk in the forest and watch animals and birds on foot.
This is very nice and maintained facility of this tiger reserve.
4 trekking facilities available here. You can go and check on the website.

We enrolled in Deer path trail and it's 16 km full trek which gives you many sightings of birds and mammals. One knowlegable guide is provided with every group.

We saw Tiger scat and its fresh kill of Guar 🐅🙄 Deer, sambar and gaurs are common here. You can easily hear their sounds. We saw Jingle owlet, Malabar trogen and many woodpeckers. These trails starts at 9 from different locations so see that on websites.

Tickets for this - this depends on how many people visiting that day. 1000-1500 for group of 5 people.
If you are single person then you have to pay full money of 5 people. Also you can adjust with other group.

2. Wildlife safari -
Forest department have 8 buses with good seating arrangement and all.
400 ticket for 3 hours bus ride is very cheap.
They will take you to 2 dam view points and kannimara teak tree.

Also you can go with your own vehicle. If you are visiting with your own vehicle thenthey skip the ticket charges of 1-2 persons . (Visiting 5 persons with own vehicle then they will charge 3 persons only.)
They will provide guide with your vehicle or common guide for 3 vehicles.

You can see many wild animals on this trip. So don't forget to join this.

We tried evening safary and we saw 50+ barking deers, 20+ sambar and 20+ bisons. One elephant was there but it's too long.

Please note - bamboo rafting and that view point is not in this package. You have to tke another package for that.

3. Accomodation -
Parambikulam allowing people to stay near their checkpost and also inside forests. Which is very nice !!
Check website for bookings.

A - Tented Niche and dormitory is just beside annapady checkpost. Here also you can enjoy Birdwatching and deer which are very near to rooms. Food is also available in this package.

B - Honeycomb Parambikulam
This is a well maintained facility inside a forest near Parambikulam village. It's 22km from Annapady checkpost. 10 rooms are available with 7k packege for one day. Check website for rates.

C - Peruvari Island nest and Veettikunnu Island nest
These both are recommended by me. Because you have to travel in bamboo raftings and reach these nests. You have to take your own food. One forest watcher and cook is with you and you live inside the forest. Sighting of elephant and animals is more.
You will get some low services but you can feel nature for sure.

My experience was unforgettable. !!
Thanks to the Kerala forest department for giving us such facilities and the chance to feel the forest and wildlife 🙏💯

Wonderful place full of teak forests and streams. Way up to the reserve is full of old bamboo groves. You have to pass through top slip tiger reserve and check post to reach parambikulam tiger reserve.

Wait time for safari is like 1 hour or more. But it is worth the wait. Safari was 4 hours long. Bus ride was bumpy (b'coz of forest terrain). Personal cars also allowed to drive in.

Wild buffalo, elephant's, deer, black faced monkeys, flying squirrels, and lots of birds. Kannimara teak was gigantic. Memorable safari for children. View points offered super cool views for photos and selfies.

This park is not orientated to anything other than Indian family tourism. We stayed two nights in the tented huts. The bathroom barely functioned ( no hot water, sink cold tap pathetic), no soap, we had to ask for towels. The safari bus ride is without merit. Very noisy, and obstructed views by people standing and clamouring all over the place. We did see some deer, elephants, and buffalo. The raft ride was 20 minutes of boating on the lake - the purpose ? Who knows why. The local ladies dancing were ‘enthusiastic’.
The joy of Parambikulam is reasonable food( though nothing western). We were blessed with local guides to take us on small group walks - really useful for understanding the wild life, though I struggled with the English.
The morning group walk was a bit of a noisy circus. Rather frustrating with regard to seeing anything. There is no guidance given about moving silently. I might as well have been at a sports event!

Our guest from New Zealand and UK visited Parambikulam for 01 N & 02 D program (December 13 & 14 2022) with me. guest stayed at Peruvari Island Nest . To be frank, this is a super spot for nature lovers and the food which the tribal team cooked for us was limited items, but delicious. We appreciate the same. We could spot Wild Elephants, Deer's, Peacocks, Wild Fox etc during our safari with a forest guide. It was also a memorable trip. The only negative part which we felt during our trip is the Forest Guide as he don't speak English / any other language except Malayalam and he was simply sitting in our car to find any animals en route our journey inside the forest. But as a guide, he should have knowledge about Parambikulam and he should have responsibility to explain his guest about Parambikulam and history in English. But he didn't due to lack of English knowledge.
But our guest told me that this is their first poor experience with a forest guide in their life as wherever they visit to explore forest / safari, their guide could explain them in detail. But here the forest department failed to do so. They should give proper training to these guides regarding Parambikulam in English so that their clients will have an idea about Parambikulam. It is not like simply sitting in a vehicle by telling that he is a guide. I think I am not wrong , Hence i am not giving excellent or Good mark here. This is not fair to make money without dong anything by forest department. They should give those guides proper training to explain everything in English. Or guests will blame to the forest team and they will never recommend others here.

We visited this place as a family and were totally delighted by the experience. It delivered beyond our expectations which were quite reasonable given that this is a tiger reserve. It’s certainly not a luxury holiday but a comfortable one for sure. The rooms were clean and hygienic, the food was awesome and the location is a perfect spot to experience the forest and the local culture together. Note that the only mobile network available is BSNL. The trek on Day 2 and bamboo rafting were the highlights of our trip.

The forest department really deserves credit for enforcing the discipline in tourists for maintaining the habitat for the wild and yet making it safe for visitors. Thank you.

Stayed in tented niche. Rooms are just basics. Unfortunately there is no proper water in hand shower or neither got hot water through geyser in one of the rooms that we booked. But other room was fine, rooms were in need of a renovation. Food served were basics and Guide appointed was helpful and took good care of the entire team of guests. He made sure he showed animals during safari. But safari was of a very long duration, there should be a provision to book only what we needed. The tribal dance and the bamboo rafting was good and not the safari itself.

Honey comp is a Forest department accommodation that is 22 Kms inside the forest. There are 9 rooms with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. We stayed there 2 nights. Tasty Kerala style food served, and the supervisor was very cooperative. Tribal dance and bamboo rafting was a new experience. We saw few animals, but no Tigers. Gigantic 465 years old Teak tree is worth seeing. This reserve forest is full of Teak trees. A tribal settlement near Honey comb and the tourism is one of their main earning source. Honey comb can improve by providing better rooms with mattress, pillows etc with tourism in mind.

We stayed at Honey Comb on 20-21 Aug 2022. We were two families with kids. The accommodation was not ready when we arrived at 1400 hrs for check in. We were instead given staff accommodation. The room was too small to accommodate a family and toiletries, towels were not provided. Nothing was working and we had to wait until 1500 hrs to get lunch and even drinking water was not provided. The catering staff was not available and the guides were cooking food for the guests. There was no manager or a supervisor at location who could manage the situation and everything was mess. As per schedule in the morning next day we were all ready for tea but again the catering team was unavailable and our guide Sanoj had to make the tea for us. Our whole stay was terrible experience and will not recommend this place to other travellers. It was evident that there was complete mismanagement and lack of interest for authorities in managing the tour appropriately. Our guide Sanoj was excellent and highly professional. He has good knowledge about the entire range and was very helpful with managing kids questions. He even cooked meals and morning tea for us as the contracted catering staff was not available.

I visited this place in Aug 22 with my wife and its a good place if you are a wildlife and scenery loving person. The forest is dense without mobile network. If you are planning to stay inside Parambikulam then you have some 4-5 choices to book online. I booked Thunakadavu Tree Top Hut accommodation for 2N/3D along with pug mark trail trekking and below is my experience.
> The forest department people look for excuse to cancel trekking with excuses like there should be minimum of 10 people, rain, leech all other reasons.
> Stay at for Thunakadavu Tree Top Hut was a nightmare as there are hundreds of rodents and rats which easily enter your hut. We had some biscuits in one of our bag and the rats despite keeping this bag in a stand, punctured the bag and ate all the biscuits. The rats move all around you making noise and some also climbed our bed at night. Remind you, you are alone in that hut without signal to call for help and also not advised to climb down the staircase due to elephant/wild animal movements during nights. During day, there are lot of monkeys which made sure we cannot enjoy the property sitting outside. The next day, I was successful to change from hut to Tented niche and slept well which i missed previous night.
> Location of hut is excellent. Honeycomb is midst tribal settlement and Tented niche is near admin office so location wise Hut is very good and isolated.
