Totoro !!! We will say that we visit Nagoya because of the house.
It was lovely and we brought our Totoro (bought many years ago from Hokkaido) along. The shaky pillar, the pail with a hole, the bathtub, the well...all little details like books, toys, school bag, furnitures are well taken care of.
It seems like the sisters will be running around the house or laughing out in the bathtub. Even the tap is working. And we can pump water from the well. We can touch everything and open every drawer. No photos inside.
The tour is conducted in Japanese. But when they know we are from Singapore, they tried to explain to us in English and hand gestures. They also helped us to take photos, with our Totoro (outside the house).
It was raining and we were cold. But we simply enjoy every moment.

If you are a fan of Totoro, you'll probably love seeing this house. :)
tickets
I tried to order them in advance (from the US) on the Japanese Lawson website. It wouldn't take my US credit cards. I managed to order them just before we left for Japan, not using a credit card, to pick up at a Lawson shop within 3 days. In Japan I found a Lawson, and asked the clerk (who didn't speak English) to help (showed him my printout). He walked me through it, printed a receipt, took that and printed the actual tickets. You could also ask your accommodations in Nagoya (or anywhere, really, that has easy access to a Lawson) if they could get them for you and you pay on arrival (or add to your hotel charge). They're pretty cheap.
location
We took the Nagoya subway Higashiyama line to the end station, Fujigaoka (about 30 minutes), then the Limono monorail from there to Aichikyuhaku-kinen-koen, the site of the Expo 2005 (about 15 minutes). From there it's a pretty good walk to the house, close to a mile. You walk past a big indoor swimming complex, and through some woods. Watch carefully for the signs to Satsuki and Mei's house. Check google maps beforehand so you have an idea where you're going.
the tour
There's a small shop, bathrooms, vending machines, waiting area and a ticket office. Check in when you arrive and you'll get ticket on a lanyard for your tour. If you arrive early you can wander around the park area and go up the lookout tower (or do that after the tour). The tour is about 30 minutes and you can wander around inside the house and outside. The house is behind a gate so you can only wander around right outside while you're on the tour. Otherwise the only way to see it is from the lookout tower. After 30 minutes you have to leave the gated area.
We LOVED seeing the house! How cool to think about the movie while wandering around a real house. :)

Hi! I will be there in January! Is there tickets needed to go? If so how do I get them! Thank you.
Skrevet 23. november 2016
Hi, there are no tickets needed in advance but you should check the opening hours on their website because it's changing with the season! You can get the tickets once you are there.

Hi!
I am interested in visiting when I travel to Japan in December-January, but am unsure whether the exhibition closes at all over this period? I'll be there from December 28th - January 26th.
Thanks!

Hi, hope anyone went there before and advise me
thanks
how you purchased at Lawson ? you purchased ticket only you arrive in Japan ? any ticket available for sale online ?
how to travel from nagoya to that place ? Did you arrange your own transport ? any english speaker tour guide ? roughly how many hours you spend there ?
Skrevet 13. august 2015
Hey,
Yes, you should buy the ticket in advance at Lawson, or you can get it at the govoyagin
You can go to Fujigaoka Station from Nagoya Station and then continue to take the Linmo to Ai Chikyū-Haku Rinen Kōen Station
It is english spoken guided tour. The tour only took half an hour

Hello, anybody can tell us how fast one can get to Satsuki and Mei's House getting off from the Nagoya airport? Is there a shuttle bus we can take from the airport to Aichi? or even more direct to the Aichi Expo Park?
