It felt absolutely amazing to tick off another peak in Stirling Ranges. I've already done Bluff Knoll 4 times (pre-covid) so it's about time to climb a new peak. Due to my lack of fitness (post-covid), I thought I better start with Mt Trio. Nth too technical and no scrambling up the rocks needed, BUT it is still a no BS trail right from the start. It's steep and the steps just seemed endless and up and up until the first saddle. I was very slow and took lots of break. It took me 2 hrs up, 1 hr down, but the good thing about this was, I had the peak all to myself cos everybody else either was already on the way down or had passed me and gone down by time I made it LOL

The views at the top was SPECTACULAR!!! Definitely worth every huffing and puffing and sweat. Unfortunately I couldn't stay long at all cos the weather suddenly changed. I started off with a hot clear sunny weather and then by the time I reached the saddle, I could see the black clouds were coming my way, so I quickly made a dash to the peak, took a few pics and quickly went down. I made it in time to at least still see the view, but not so lucky for the chap I met on the way down about 15mins later from the peak because by then, the thick mist had rolled in and covered the whole peak.

In a way, I was glad to experience this sudden change of weather. To see and capture the mist rolling in was just hauntingly beautiful! The rain also started to drizzle, but thankfully it didn't pour hard until I reached the carpark. Talking about timing! So do come prepared with a jacket/rain jacket (I didn't...woops!) and wear proper shoes cos those rocks could be slippery when wet. Hike safely and enjoy the view!

We loved staying at Mt Trio bush camp & caravan park it has one of the best camp kitchens I have ever seen, with a large pot belly fire place, board games, a guitar for anyone to play.
Situated in a peaceful natural bush area on a working farm on the border of the beautiful #stirlingranges and #bluffknoll only 10mins drive away and an easy 4.5 hr drive from Perth.
Enjoy the sounds of the Boobook Owl and the Tawny frogmouth as you drift off to sleep. We highly recommend this camp ground if your in the area @robshaztravels

What a find, a beautiful caravan and camping place at the foot of the Stirlings.
Great walking trails and orchids everywhere, Spider orchids the size we have never seen before.
The camp has powered sites as well as unpowered, flush toilets hot showers and a fully equipped camp kitchen as well as a laundry. Charges are very reasonable.
A beautiful spot and very quite.

This was the third trail we walked in the Stirling Ranges. It is only about half the length of the Mount Bluff trail, and being the third trail we were getting more boot fit, and managed this walk in the allotted time for once. The trail levelled onto a plateau before climbing again briefly to the top. The top is isolated so the views are really special.

We were much taken with the Banksias and the grass trees. A very nice walk, rewarding, enjoyable and not too taxing.

Went for a day trip out to the Stirling Range National Park, in particular Mt Trio or more specifically the Mt Trio carpark whilst staying in Albany over the Christmas/New year period. Came here with the wife and a 2.5 year old in tow, and had a look at doing the walk trail however were too challenging for the three of us, the views and the bush environment were still amazing. However be aware that there is corrugation on majority of unsealed roads in the area so dont be surprised if it is a bumpy journey. Definitely worth the drive out from Albany if you are fit and willing to head through the bush.

I decided to climb Mt Trio straight after climbing Bluff Knoll, which certainly tested my stamina. The climb is fairly steep for the first half, then becomes a gradual path up to the top. The track is quite narrow and coming down was quite slow as most of the path is shale which is unstable under foot. The view from the top was well worth it, just stunning

Went walking here after climbing the day before so my legs were still a bit fatigued. Even so, took BF and I exactly 2 hours to return to the car park. Not entirely sure if we walked the entire thing as the three “peaks” weren’t as easy to distinguish as we might have thought. There were three separate rock piles at the top though? Was that it? Not sure.

Ultimately a lovely walk. Very steep to begin with but had a staircase and clearly defined path. No rock scrambling required but some of those stairs were killers. Much less busy than bluff knoll, although also helps that we climbed on a Monday. Saw a snake on our climb so exercise caution!

Great views of both bluff and Toolbrunup. A good mountain to start with for anyone afraid of heights as the summit has a generous amount of room.

My wife and I have recently moved to Albany and are in the process of completing all the hikes and walks in the Porongorup and Stirling Ranges. Mt Trio is a harder walk than Bluff Knoll as the track is much steeper and less maintained. This is great as you feel like you are the only ones there. On our trip of just under three hours, we saw only 5 other people in two groups. The views at the top was amazing, then clouds came in and we had a white out, then they blew away and we could see forever again.

Mount Trio is very steep in places and great care must be taken - having said that, the views were my favourite out of the entire range that I walked . . . LOVE IT . . again - PLENTY OF WATER for all of these hikes - they are all very steep and you will get very hot very quickly. Also wear sturdy shoes.
