We visited Badami, as it had been on the wishlist for a long time. After Hampi we took a cab with Driver Rasool, mobile number +91-9886195468
Rasool drove us to Aihole, Pattadakal, on day 1, and dropped us to Hubli Airport on day 2(Rs 2000, for day1 and Rs 3300 for day 2)
He is tireless, generous with his time, very friendly, loves to talk and gave us a good idea of the geography, history and politics of the region
He is a very good driver, keeps his car well maintained, and he is safe. I'd say he is safe around single women as well
Overall we had a much better experience because of Rasool and his cab.
The ASI museum is fantastic as are the caves. The temples at Aihole and Pattadakal are amazing
But I feel if one is short on time then Hampi alone is quite satisfying

This is one of the main reasons why you would visit Badami. A lot of information is already available, I have only a few tips to offer. Try to plan an early morning visit ( we were at the entrance gate at 6 .15 am) for a peaceful experience. Later, it became quite crowded and a bit inconvenient.
The parking at the base of the hill is free, but you need to reach early to find a place. Otherwise, park at the main road and take a tuk tuk to the hills. You can easily walk to the hill as well ( about 10-12 mts). The walk is through the crowded locality. I'm not sure anything can be done about this, but it's a heritage site, so if we can manage to build a cleaner locality, the approach road will be so much better.

Great sculptures in a set of four caves. Most of the sculptures are intact, the idols and paintings are gone. But the sculptures are very beautiful. Most of them are of Vishnu in his various avatars and one cave is for Jains.
Along with this, the Bhutanath temple should also be visited. This is situated on the opposite side of the lake share and can be seen form the caves. It has a relaxing ambience with a small grass lawn on the side.

A MUST VISIT SPOT in BADAMI .. this is generally No1 in the list of To-Dos in Badami. There was an entry fee of 25rs for Indians and 300 Rs for foreigners.. this is an amazing place with so many photo ops . Do hire a guide if you want to know the history behind these caves .

We went on a weekday and it was empty . Lots of parking outside (free) .. take care of elderly people as the steps are steeep and might cause knee pains . Kids shouldn’t run as it can slip and can cause injuries .. important tip - never carry food bags or fruits with you .. the monkeys are going to pounce on you and take the bag away .. they can also hurt you . Be very careful with the monkeys . Leave them alone and they leave u alone . Loved it overall. 5/5..

There are 4 caves. You have to climb, which is quite easy. The first 3 were hindu temples where as the 4th was a jain temple. As the main idol is damaged, no puja is done now. Well maintained by ASI. Beautiful view from top. Be careful as there are many monkeys. The sculptures are marvelous

Visit is a must. If time, stay for sunset at level of cave 4. An important place int the history of religions and arts. Favor a late afternoon or early morning visit. Beware of monkeys (keep distance).

Superb spot with nominal entry fee (for Indians). Not recommended for people who have knee problem and walking issues. Neatly maintained premise. But the approaching road/ alley is horribly dirty.....Never seen such dirty lanes. The road stinks with garbage all over and lots and lots of pigs around. not at all a good impression. But once you cross that and reach the spot, it's nice.

Badami caves are one of most poorly maintained heritage places I have ever seen.
The approach to caves is filthy and stinky. Encroachment is up to the caves, leaving a small parking place with only one entry and exit. No public toilet for visitors.
The deity idols are missing in each of the caves. Only carvings on the entrances are existing.
The details given on the tablets about the caves should also give details of who destroyed/stoled the idols in the central worship place.
It is called cave temple, but no puja is being done as deity idol is missing. The person on the counter knows nothing about politeness with tourists.
