Amazing view and decorations. Looks in the evening like a fairy tale town. Full with restaurants and street vendors (yes, even at -25C). Easy to drive from Harbin and only 2h distance. One day visit is enough to explore this.
Hotels are overpriced, our room was 1500CNY=208USD for the night. There were no windows, no air ventilation, and no temperature control in our room. The room was like +30C, and I needed to carry in a bucket with snow in front of the fan to cool it down. For kids, there is no slope to go with a rental sled as it is considered too dangerous.

We love the superb beautiful sceneries in Northern China. XueXiang is such a great experience for our family but it was super duper cold!
Kids bought the ice balls maker and have snow fight along the snow street... We just enjoyed the stay in XueXiang.

Snow town should be included if you are travelling to Harbin for winter holiday especially if you are from a non snowy country. Bear in mind though that it is very packed and crowded with local tourist so if you are looking for a quite forest town this is not the place.
It is very touristy and if you don’t speak chinese you better get a local tour with english guide since everyone cannot speak english here.
Make sure you travel light to snow town since you have to drag your luggage on icy cold weather. Better to leave your big suitcases at Harbin hotels.
There are variety of activities here such as skiing for beginner, snow tubing but I suggest max 2-3 days stay.
Note: no english speaking people here make it difficult to do most things for non chinese speaking.

Visited and stayed here for 2 nights. It was a wonderful experience but the cold can be Super cold like -27 deg Celsius. We had to wear at least 4 to 5 layers on top and 3 layers pants.
There are skiing, tubing down slopes, horse and dog sleds... but I didn’t go for animal rides. I just spent RMB 50 per person to enjoy unlimited tubes down the slopes and it was fun enough.
Visiting China Snow Town can be very cheap. But as I browse through the internet and travel apps, the tours are quite expensive for the same travel period. I DIY-ed and it was a lot cheaper. Be careful of tour agencies, chartered car Drivers trying to recommend you “cheaper tickets” and pushing you to buy snow activity packages at cheaper rates... just don’t get conned. They have a Long list of activities, but if the weather is Super cold I doubt I could last Long out in the cold to complete those activities anyway.
There’s village procession and fireworks every night. All in all, this is a wonderful place to visit.

Also known as China Snow Town (中国雪乡), it is about 5 to 6 hours journey from Harbin city. As such, majority of visitors will do a 2D1N trip. Be warned that the accommodation (typically family inns) are rather expensive and yet provide basic amenities. Nevertheless, this snow town attracts lots of local visitors during the winter season. The snow is beautiful, soft and thick.
The town is essentially one long street, nestled in a valley surrounded by the thick mountain forest. Along this street are mainly eateries, inns, convenience stores as well as street vendors. What I love most are the traditional houses covered with thick snow. At night, the whole town is lit up by the red lanterns hanging outside their houses and on the streets, making the snow town a great place to wander and unwind.

This is my first trip to Harbin and I booked my hotel accommodation in Snow Town on C Trip (or Trip.com). Accommodation, I stayed at SnowTown Lanxingmeng Movie Theme Hotel (蓝馨梦电影主题酒店). It’s on the Main Street - where is bustle n give of activities. Walk slowly to somewhere in the middle and match the signboard from the pic attached.
One side is the arrival from Yabuli n the other side is arrival from Wuchang (Harbin City). The tour buses will drop off at the public carpark. Enter n purchase the entrance to Snow Town. A shuttle bus will be there to pick all passengers to Snow Town.
I didn’t want to join a tour and wake up early. Free and easy has its disadvantages. How to get there?
Transport - The Snow Town hotel will be able to arrange for you. As everything is communicated in Chinese, it’s a must to speak n type in Chinese. Most of the transport agency’s / Drivers replies are as voice messages.
My preference is to go Snow Town from Yabuli. It’s 2.5 hour journey. From Harbin, it’s approx 6 hours (could be slightly longer when the roads turn icy n traffic builds up). Base hotel in Yabuli n keep your large luggage there. Pack an overnight bag n head to Snow Town for a night or two.
I booked from SG. Thank goodness for Carousell. Some people offer to help pay in RMB for your transport using their WeChat Pay. You have to transfer $ using PayNow and ask the Transport contact to add the Carousell guy. There has to be a level of trust (transport can be less than S$150 per person). Best if you have a friend from China.
When I got there, there are tons to do. Too much for a 2 day 1 night. Dressing up, buying tickets to watch a variety show (suggest 4pm show) and view the Snow Village exhibit on the Main Street, a horse cart ride, etc. A parade starts at 7pm and ends with a concert and a bonfire.
The next morning, take a trip to the forest where they filmed ”爸爸去哪里”. There is lots of photo-taking opportunity. The photographer stations in the 中心 are friendly. The pics are not exp... RMB 20 per piece (ask for digital 电子版,slightly higher n negotiable in bulk). It’s bitter cold in early Dec & Uniqlo Fleece Pants require Ultra warm base layers.
This place is uniquely China. Rich in culture, food and scenery. Snow quality is as good (if not better) than Hokkaido. Powder snow. Apparently, you can ski near Snow Town n stay in Snow Town. I’ve not tried this though.
As foreigners (国外旅客, please give a tip to express your thanks. The generosity of the locals are from the heart.

One of the most beautiful towns in China, Snow Town (雪乡), is a must to visit. Get mesmerized by the different angles and views of the area. It was snowing the morning we are about to depart Snow Town. The main stretch of road comprises lots of eateries (selling repeated stuff) and some small mini-marts and souvenirs stores.
November is the beginning of winter and the area gets dark early (~4pm). Nonetheless, the shops (except eateries that close later) and tourist attractions close at 8~9pm. One gets to enjoy and appreciate the town in day or night. Visit the Mystic HomeTown ('梦幻家园') and free to visit museum along the main road that gives a good introduction of the town and what it specializes in. However, the texts on the wall are in Mandarin and there is no guide to help with translation. Take a stroll along the Bang Chui Shan Tourist Road and enjoy the night view of the town where houses are lit in neon lights (see pic shared). The town welcomes its visit every night with a dance and some performance on the stage.
Another recommendation is a 20minutes bus ride up Yang Cao Shan (羊草山). Enjoy the good scenic and overview of the area. Would recommend a 2 days 1 night stay.

Arrived snow village on the evening of Christmas Day 2018. The village was crowded with people, young and old. All rooftops were covered with thick snow. The street has a lot of restaurants, shops, stalls and hotels (mostly budget hotels). The day we arrived, we can see snow flakes falling from the sky, which is a new experience for us who are from a country that never snows. At night the village was decorated with colorful lights and in the morning was a different scene where the snows covered the houses and trees. This place is really a winter wonderland.
If anyone planing to visit this snow village, I recommend that they book their accommodation early especially during winter as most hotels are fully booked.

Hi there, may I know when the booking for the accomodation at Snow Village starts? It seems to be not available for 2024 Dec at this point of writing?

Hi, Will be visiting Harbin coming Dec. Am planning for a trip to Snow Town. However, seem like joining package tour is not advisable. Would like to know which accommodation to recommend and how to join the activities there? Are those activities nearby or book through the accommodation owner? Thank you
