Marketed as 5 star cruising! The content and the itinerary of the cruise are excellent, and the 3 gorges and Dam are spectacular, but the ship itself would be 3 star at best.

We really enjoyed the cruise. The rooms were very comfortable, the food was excellent and the crew very friendly and helpful! Although we were the only west people they translated everything in English. We had a great time!

We booked a holiday to China with Kuoni
Very disappointedWe paid for room upgrades in hotels we were shocked they were so poor
We travelled on the century sun ship four day cruise last October
It was horrendous we paid for the best room on the ship I shudder to think what the worst where like
It was very very dirty, the boat smelled badly and the food was awful.
Don’t use this ship or Kuoni for holidays to china
We went to see them as soon as we got home we had no end of photos of dirt and cockroaches, it was filthy old smelly with smelly old carpets
Kuoni were not interested they gave us a refund on £100
Shocking shocking shocking
Don’t use this boat

We sailed from the Three Gorges Dam which is an amazing feat of accomplishment to Chong Ching. The trip was hot as we went in the middle of July, but the scenery and sites were lovely and pack with a lot of Chinese history.

This is a delightful way to see stunning gorges and a lovely river. We sailed from the Three Gorges Dam which is stunning in itself to Chong Ching, it was hot but the scenery and sites at various stops were lovely. The boated aren’t the latest in luxury but the care and politeness of the staff cannot be faulted. They also provide the evening cabarets ‘Chinese style’ of course. Food is traditional, good and plentiful, buffet style. This is a trip of a lifetime and we loved it and found it very good value for money too. Overall the care of the Chinese people cannot be faulted. When in Chong Ching visit the zoo and the many pandas.

I would recommend a Three Gorges Dam Yangtze River Cruise. We went upstream from Yichang. The Dam at Yichang is amazing. We booked direct and it was great value for money and all tours from the boat were included. You could do some optional tours in addition however the included ones filled our days.
We were on Century Legend one of the bigger boats. We went in July and the river was very low and it was very hot. I would recommend April/May or September.

We did a 4 night cruise on the Yangtze river as part of our tour. The ship is not as luxurious as the river cruise ships in Europe but was more than fine. Meals were great and staff was terrific. Upon arrival at the ship signs were on the table stating upgraded cabins were available. We had read about this in travel blogs before our trip. When we asked we were shown the Shangri-la cabin and a junior suite. We chose the junior suite which was about twice as large as the standard cabins. It had twin beds, 2 lounge chairs, a writing desk, a balcony with 2 chairs and a table. Lots of room and very comfortable. When we had booked our tour we had selected the amenity package which included free wine and beer about an hour before dinner. Many of the folks on the tour had selected the same package so we all met in the lounge for pre dinner drinks. Our tour did not eat the meals in the main dinning room but in a dining area on the top deck with another tour group. Breakfast was a buffet and you selected your dinner choices from an extensive list of options at that time. The staff always managed to serve your selected meal with no mistakes. I have no idea how they did this as we never sat at the same table for dinner. The staff put on a floor show every night in the main lounge sometimes including some passengers. All in all we had a great time and would recommend this cruise.

Just came back from an amazing trip to China. Everything was wonderful except this ship... dirty and old, food was disgusting. Couldn’t even purchase different food or upgrade. Was booked for us as a 5 star ship. Absolutely nothing near 5 star.

We booked a Yangtze River cruise through SNA Tours. We dealt with the office in Vancouver, Canada.
Let me say that the air travel part was fine. All the flights were on time and we got good service on both airlines.
However, the schedule for the tour left us very disappointed. First, the 6 1/2 train ride on the second day to get to the boat was a completely wasted day. After traveling for 15 hours by plane, the last thing we expected was to be on a train the entire day on Saturday. Then the group guide took us to a restaurant for dinner. Then we have to ride on a bus for another 1.5 hours just to get to the boat. We did not get on board until 9:00pm.
What we quickly learned was that if we did not want to buy the excursions, we were not going to see anything. We did not realize that we could not see any sights of China or the towns or villages nearby. There was really nothing to see where the boat was docked. So Sunday was a complete waste of time for us. That meant that really the only two days of actual cruising on the river were on Monday and Tuesday.
Unfortunately, my wife got sick with bronchitis and had to see the ship doctor. Well, after three treatments we were stuck with a bill of about $1,300 for the doctor! That was outrageous, but what could we do but pay the bill.
The food on the boat was okay, but not great. Even though we upgraded to the VIP dinning there were still lines at the buffet and they only gave us 1 hour most of the time to eat.
Another problem was the language barrier. Our tour guide could barely speak good English. Most of the staff on the boat could not speak English which made it very hard to communicate even the simplest things.
We paid for a room upgrade and got a room right under the bar and the second night we could not sleep due to all the noise. So then we had to change rooms for the last two nights. And, the air conditioning in the room did not work. We found out that they do not really have A/C in the winter. They just blow in air from outside. So we were quite uncomfortably hot in the room.
I could go on but I think you get the picture. We would never do this trip again. And we would never recommend to anyone to do this trip. It was what we call a "bait and switch". We were never told that if we did not buy the excursions we would not see anything really. And so it came across as just a trip where they tried to up sell us on everything.

My husband and I recently spent a month in China travelling independently. Whilst in Chongqing we decided to book a Yangtze River cruise on the boat Yangtze Gold 1. We have no complaints about the boat, the cabins, the staff or the food. All were more than acceptable. Also the included excursions were well organised and enjoyable.
However, this is not a four day, three night cruise through three gorges as advertised. It is a two and half day, three night cruise through two gorges.
The first "day" you can't board the boat until 6 p.m. and if you want dinner on the boat you have to pay. The next day you visit Fengdu Ghost City, interesting temple complex with lots of stairs to climb, I think you could take a chair lift. The following day in the morning you pass through Qutang Gorge and have an included excursion to the lesser three gorges. We decided to purchase the optional excursion, which was advertised as being a trip down narrow gorges in sampans .... no! You go on a motorised boat for about half an hour turn around and go back. In the afternoon we were to sail through Wu gorge but by the time we arrived there it was dark! We could just see the outline of the mountains either side, I can only imagine it was spectacular. I feel that the optional excursion should not be offered at this time of year, to allow time for us to see the second gorge. When these cruises were first offered they did cruise through three gorges but the Chinese government no longer allows short cruises to pass through the lock system or the ship lift, so the cruises stop at Maoping and don't pass through Xiling Gorge. The last morning you are ferried on buses to the park area overlooking the lock system and an optional excursion is available to view the ship lift. The bus then takes you to Yichang Bus station, passing Xiling Gorge on the way (sit on the right side of the bus to get the best view).
Not sure I could recommend this cruise as value for money.

My wife and I are about to book a three night - four day cruise on the Yangzi Explorer.
We are booked into the 2nd deck.
Is it worth paying A$600.00 or A$800.00 for an upgrade to 3rd or 4th deck?
Parky. NSW.

It depends on your trip budget. All cabins have balconies with the river view. The higher decks have cabins which are a little larger, but in my opinion, not worth the extra cost. All the cabins are very nice, if you are lucky and the suites are available, you may score a free upgrade. It depends if all the suites are sold out or not. They know how to get the maximum revenue from all available cabins. 3 nights downstream is best, less motor noise vs the upstream trip. Have a great time.

Looking at booking on the Goddess No.1 for a Yangtze River cruise from Yichang to Chongquing can you tell me what this ships is like.
Skrevet 31. oktober 2019
I’m sorry, I was on another cruise ship so I’m not sure what the one you want to book with is like. I do know that the Yangtze River cruise is worth doing.
Good luck.
Skrevet 31. oktober 2019
What's the official website for Yangtze Goddess cruise? I can't find them on the net.
Skrevet 30. oktober 2019
sorry for late reply
I booked through my agent and dont have the details
Skrevet 8. desember 2019
i would like to hear some reviews about the China Goddess 2 as we have booked a four night yangzte river cruise and cant find anything about the ship. TIA
Skrevet 14. oktober 2019
I was on that ship in May. It wasn't great and the food was ordinary. China hasn't quite got the cruise business sorted yet.
Skrevet 31. oktober 2019
I am considering to join a Yangtze River cruise for 4 days as part of my solo travel to Chongqing for 11 days. Do cruise operators accept a solo traveler? If so, how will be a room arrangement and any significant extra charges? Also, any idea about the wifi reception on the ship?
Skrevet 29. september 2019
Hi, yes I’m sure they accept solo travellers. The Yangtze River cruise is well worth doing. The food was lovely, the service was very good. I was unable to access Wifi so I paid to use my own provider. The rooms are small so if given a chance, I would pay the extra to have a larger room. I hope this helps answer your questions.
Kind regards,
Suzette

Hi
My husband and I are taking the Glory of China tour next month and I was wondering if the upgrade to the front room is part of the $120 they charge for upgrade or something separate?
Skrevet 23. august 2019
Yes I was surprised that the upgrade included a different dining room upstairs with fewer people and some parts of the courses were served,Downstairs it is all buffet, and a large group of passengers. There is plenty of food,it was good and they try to be accommodating for those with food sensitivities.
Skrevet 30. september 2019
Just want to know if it really is worth the upgrade to VIP dining on the century Paragon? Being one of the better cruise liners sailing the Yangzte river, i just wonder if the buffet style dining is just as good.
Skrevet 28. juli 2019
How do I keep drinks cold if I take them onboard the ship please?
Skrevet 8. juli 2019
There is a fridge in the room that will keep drinks cool, not cold
Skrevet 14. juli 2019
Has anyone caught an airplane from Yichang to Shanghai after the cruise? What kind of transportation to airport and approximate time of flight?
Skrevet 8. mai 2019
We caught a plane from Shanghai to Yichang at 7:35 am on a Sunday morning. It took about 1.5h from Yichang airport to the wharf by car.
