Jiezi is a lovely old town on the river, with pleasant old buildings and quite a lot of interesting shops for leisure shoppers. it's not an essential but it is very nice and if you're in the area, visiting Dujiangang and Qingchen shan then why not add it on. I don't think I'd elevated it to an entire day out from Chengdu especially as the trains don't come here. you need to either get a taxi back to Qingchen shan station or to Chengdu.

Beautiful and interesting ancient town that exceeds my expectation; better than Mt. Qingcheng. Wish we could spend more time at Jiezi. We didn't manage to walk further to the nearby park.
The touristy items sold there are cheaper than in Chengdu.

We were recommended to visit Jiezi other than the other old towns in the Chengdu area because this is viewed as one of the most authentic and best preserved and restored. When you enter via the tourist centre and ask directions to the ancient town you will be directed to the more modern town as we were! I would suggest that you pick up a free map from the rack and then head straight through the back door , which takes you almost directly to the "Ancient town " . Although a lot of restoration work has taken place after an earthquake 10 years ago, it has been done very well and apart from some modern brickwork you can hardly notice anything out of step with the 1000+ year old appearance. There are a lot of tourist type shops but there are still plenty of original themed properties to enjoy and explore and of course the Chinese tea shops with the most original interiors that we have seen on our visit . We spent the afternoon here and could have quite easily have made a day of it if time had allowed.

Visited here yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The site was established in the Ming Dynasty, but most of what you see today is much later. Doesn't spoil the experience though. Lots of touristy shops, snacks, restaurants and photo opportunities. Worth a visit

I have been to dozens of ancient towns and found this to be quite nice. Less crowded than the typical ancient town, and quite pleasant. Can easily spend an afternoon strolling around enjoying the scenery and wandering around.
Be sure to try the local ye'er ("yeh-arr") a little sticky rice cake steamed on what the vendor said was a tangerine leaf. There are usually 2 kinda a sweet one (tiande "tea-ann-duh") and a meat filled one (roude "row-duh").

We went there after visiting the Dujiangyan Panda Base and Center for Disease Control, having been to multiple ancient towns in China, wasn’t expecting much. Well it is among the better ones that I have visited. What stood out for me were it was Non touristy town, during our visit I didn’t see a single non-Chinese tourist, most seemed locals, what it meant was it was among the least crowded places i have visited in China. Also the shops was decently prized, we even had a seven course meal for less than 15 USD.
The architecture was typical Chinese style houses, red lanterns and lots of greenery. Best part was the street with the stream running through it with small art works. Had lots of fun doing activities like carrying my nephew on a wheel barrow style chair, doing archery & sniping. We were there only for two hrs and only saw a part of the town but it was a great two hrs.

Jiezi Ancient Town is your typical "ancient town." It is composed of shops, restaurants, tea houses, and so on. There isn't any traffic in the ancient town and it's near a shallow river so it's a good place to visit if you have children. The children can buy water guns and enjoy themselves in the river.

Okay, I admit it, I don't like fake, reconstructed or otherwise carnival-like destinations. This is what Jiezi is. An arcade atmosphere with 2 cool bridges that made it worthwhile. If you find yourself in Dujiangyan with 2 hours to spare, go for it. But don't make this a special trip from Chengdu.

Ancient "Old Town" Jiezi is a small town with a very rich and historic history. Located along the Silk Road, it is known as the home of the famous "Goard Poet". Due to the '08 earthquake, much of the city has been restored, but in a way that still retains its quaintness and friendliness for visitors. Nestled in the mountains, you will enjoy the beauty of "real" China along with good food and a mix of the old with the restored.

Very pretty place to stroll on a sunny -- or at least not rainy -- day. Lots of buildings and a bridge that look old (although I'm told that most are reconstructions). Several nice-looking inns, many restaurants, and many-many small shops. We had a very nice day.

Hello Pattie . I would like to be able to give you a definitive answer, but unfortunately as you will discover when you get to China, there are many different ways to do the same thing.
1st there is a regular bus service to Jiezi from many different places and directions and you are best off researching things from your local area when you have arrived.
2nd Taxi 's are available in Jiezi but you will be incredibly lucky to find one waiting for a fare at the Panda research station ( which is where I assume you're going to) . You will though be approached by some ladies who will try and sell you different artefacts or other things that they will think you are interested in and depending on how good their English is they'll know a taxi service to help you! AVOID AT ALL costs. This was the only place in all of our travels in China that we experienced this form of pimping.
3rd . In China there is a service called Didi's which is very similar to our " über " private hire .To use this you need a modern mobile device and download the app. You do need a basic understanding of Chinese though to do this?
4th . Depending on where you are staying, find out where your nearest major bus station is and you should find a bookable coach service that might encompass your destinations.
Sorry for such a long response but please don't let me put you off going. It is a wonderful country with some lovely people and amazing sights.
Regards Gavin.

Hi,
How do I get to this ancient town after visiting Qingchen San? Any advise?

Hi,
The easiest method is by taxi or car arranged via hotel or tour agency. There are buses to Qingcheng shan but I don't know from there to Jiezi Ancient Town. Likely there are buses to Jiezi from Dujiangyan but I can't confirm.
There is lots of walking at Qingcheng. If you don't want to walk, pay for rides. Nothing special there; we didn't see any hanging hams. This place is not suitable for the elderly.
Jiezi is a better attraction than Qingcheng shan. In fact, there is a hill trail at Jiezi, too.
FYI, hotel receptionist assisted us to arrange a car and driver for us. She called tour agency. From Dujiangyan to Jiezi, Qingcheng Shan and Chengdu airport for RMB800 for 6 of us. Of course, we invited the driver to lunch and dinner with us.
