A different tourist spot. This place exhibits and describes ancient konkan culture and heritage. They have a small botanical garden showing flora of konkan. It takes sbout 45 mins- 1 hr to cover this place. The shell museum is good and one can also enjoy cold drinks at their small eatery.

We went Prachin Konkan Museum during our visit to Ganpatipule in the month of March. Weather was a bit hot but easily manageable (also has some good Hapus mango at a reasonable rate from the market by that time). We spend about 2 hrs. here. Entry is paid and a guided tour is compulsory. If you are taking a dedicate guide, they will charge INR 50/- (for your entire group irrespective number of members in the group) or you can wait for sometime to get a free guide (once they get the minimum number (which I really didn't ask) of visitors, they will assign one guide to the group). We opted for a private guide who took us through the entire museum. This museum is basically showcasing the original Konkan of about 500 years age (how the original Konkan was, how the people were living, their lifestyle, working etc.). After taking the entire tour, I personally feel that they have done really good thing by making guided tour mandatory. The guide explains the things in such a manner which makes your visit worth. At the end of the tour (at the time of start of exit), they have a shop from where you can buy peals and shells. They also have a free guided tour to their shell collection by a separate guide (taking pictures and touching the shells are not allowed). They also have a restaurant inside but since we went there soon after having our breakfast, we didn't have anything.
A must visit place while going to Ganpatipule

Pranchin Konkan is at the distance of 1Km from Ganpatipule Temple besides Magic Garden. A large area is decorated with various sculptures and designs. A Guided tour in the museum will help you to understand prachin/Old Konkan culture and its religious background. Fare to visit this area is just 40/- per person extra amount for taking photos and videos. The collection of shells with various size and shape is a nice attraction for visitors.
Overall an excellent place to spend quality time to know rich culture of konkani people.

Prachin Konkan Museum.
Thanks to Vishwanath Sawant, our guide and tour manager, at the end of our tour of Prachin Kokan, we were lucky to meet up with Mr. V V Sardesai.
He spoke to us about the idea and how Prachin Kokan Museum happened.
Looking around, in today’s world of the internet and smartphones he felt that the younger generation is moving away from the roots and forgetting about the old values and lifestyles of Kokan.
He decided to depict the way of Konkan life as it existed 400 to 500 years back. What better way to show the social, economic, cultural, and religious background and way of life than to show how various people like iron smiths, a farmer, and traders lived and carried out their business.
The methodology adopted was to project social, economic, cultural, and religious values by creating life-size tableau of people going about their trade and way of life. The idea and the museum gradually took shape.
A three-acre hilly piece of land with natural plants and the forest was selected.
A life-size tableau of people going about their trade and way of life was created. The statues of people were made as life-like as possible giving importance to the way they dressed, and wore their jewelry, implements, and tools were made as authentic as possible.
After buying the tickets when you start on the tour, each group of visitors is taken around by a girl guide who is knowledgeable and has learned the full commentary by rote.
Museum also gives you information about the beauty of various places in Konkan in all three summer, winter, and monsoon seasons of Konkan.
As the museum is built on a hilly area of the natural forest it has various types of trees indigenous to Konkan. Specific plants of various spices and of medicinal value were brought in and were planted and cultivated in the existing forest. There are 150 types of different trees. They include the golden Golden shower tree (bahava), chironji ( charoli), sandalwood and many more rare species of trees
To give a real jungle feel, the museum displays sculptures of black panthers, tiger, leopards, pangolins etc which are found in the dense and rich forests of Konkan.
There is a separate hut where a large number and variety of sea shells are on display.
It is believed that there are trees assigned to each astrological sign. If we worship them according to our birth nakshatra we get benefits of it. Towards the end of the tour, there is a large board giving information about this subject. Also, these 27 types of trees were used to cure different diseases known at that time.
For the first time saw some trees like the Golden shower tree, chironji, and cinnamon trees which we had not seen earlier. Going around Prachin Konkan was an interesting experience.

Is well maintained, the guides are good but they only share bits of rutted information in their daily routine. Is a good walk amidst nature and you can gain a lot of info about the Konkani lifestyle. The tress, plants and shell museum are the main attraction.

This is a private open museum and depicts the life, flora and fauna of the Konkan Region. It is private property and there is an entry ticket and a guide. The place is well maintained. The place also offers Konkani food but better to have it outside the complex as their restaurant is not up to the mark.
