We stopped here after a bit of a dive and glad we did. The growing grounds were okay, but the park, benches and small zoo make it worthwhile.

This nature preserve is a beautiful area of forest and clearings with some basic facilities. Very friendly family destination. Great nature, Japanese cedars.

Je kunt hier mooi langs de rotswand langs de zee wandelen. Soms wel pittig steile stukken. Goed schoeisel vereist.

Our local host recommended this park and we were not disappointed. The park has a great picnic area, with a fantastic children´s playground. The pathway in the impressive woods was worth the visit - and we ended in the Priolo bird interpretation center where a well-informed person explained how the conservation and preservation of the almost extinct Priolo bird; indigenous to this part of the island, has been undertaken.

Cet endroit est génial pour les locaux où si vous avez des enfants. Il y a des aires de jeux, des installations avec barbecue et table à picnic. Le site est très bien entretenu. Il est possible de faire des balades en forêt.

If you are in Nordeste have a look at this place, but I don’t suggest to go just for it!
Calm place, better to go in the week days... but Nordeste it’s beautiful all days😊

We got lost and happened across the Reservation Florestal and were absolutely speechless. It was a foggy, rainy morning but worth the drive. If you are planning a visit to Sao Miguel this is a must see.

Des jardins +/- entretenus, Une plaine de jeux pour jeunes enfants, un mini zoo et une place pour pique niquer. Je pense que centre est surtout conçu pour les familles de Nordeste.

We stopped in Nordeste as we were touring around the island and followed the brown signs to this reserve, about five minutes' walk from the central church.
We found an open gate with no signage indicating public access. We took it from the only other Trip Advisor review that access was allowed and walked around the manicured gardens, children's play areas and bird enclosures, seeing no one.
This wasnt really our cup of tra and strongly preferred the small botanical gardens (see separate review 'Garden of Quinta Do Moinho') just to the north of Nordeste.
Not a particularly good tourist destination and it may be more a facility for locals.

We stumbled into this recreation park because it was listed on the tourist map we had of Sao Miguel. The park had neatly organized flower gardens as part of the national forest service (?), and had a few playgrounds and places to picnic or possibly even grill food. The atmosphere was very nice and peaceful. At one point, it was baffling if not a little strange to turn around and see an ostrich in an enclosure with some ducks. We then explored to find a series of bird enclosures, as well as a deer enclosure, and rabbit (and a peacock and lots of chickens). It was a bit confusing, and the three stars really come from a possible understaffing or lack of care given to the animals (i.e. a dead chicken in one of the larger pens, sad looking ostrich, and lack of clear human oversight in general).
Ultimately, it was a pleasantly surprising stop, and very very confusing.
