We came to Ocho Rios from Port Antonio specifically to visit the Seville Heritage Park and we were not disappointed.
A beautiful colonial residence on a small mound overlooking the sea, in a beautiful, somewhat abandoned park which was once a sugar cane plantation operated by slaves. A guided tour of the exhibition which occupies several rooms of the house traces the history of Jamaica from the Tainos, the arrival of Christopher Columbus and colonization by the Spanish, the beginnings of slavery and the war against the English . The visit lasts about an hour and Matthew, our friendly and cultured young guide, was able to present to us in an attractive way the essential points of this story. The iconography is of very good quality, with some artifacts and simple but informative text.

A fascinating beautiful place especially if you are interested in the History of Jamaica. They do lovely Guided Tours which I'm going to have on my return hopefully later this year. I was told about Saville Great House while I was up the road on Priory Beach. I only had some pocket money on me so the lady let me look round myself for a small donation. It's beautiful and was very interesting showing the invasion of the Spanish in Africa who where a forefront of Transatlantic Slavely and settling in St Anns and named area in St Catherine Spanish Town. I did a bit about it in Transatlantic Slavery History at College in UK and never forget the bit about the boiling hot furnaces sugar was made in and it was actually Saville Great House that they made the Molasses. I did a Tiktok as I was so impressed. This is so much more informative than anything available in UK museums like Maritime Museum. To be actually stood in the actually place this went on was a privilege and emotional at the same time. I'm dyslexic and found the lay out of text easy to read and the artifacts interesting to look at but also made me aware of the enslaved people's suffering. Please visit if you are in St Ann's on Holiday it's a short taxi ride from Ocho Rios! After you can relax in the beautiful gardens. The staff are so kind and friendly! A must see! 👌

We spent a fantastic time (c90 mins) at Seville Great House in the company of our guide, Eldon. Eldon is a passionate, knowledgeable and extremely informative guide. He has a great depth of knowledge on Jamaican history (in which us Scots bear great responsibility!) plus the history of the house and surrounding estate.
We also spent time at the end discussing contemporary Jamaica, some British history & politics.
I would highly recommend this historical attraction if you want to learn about Jamaica.
Thanks Eldon.

Amazing tour! Lots of indigenous and colonial artifacts and a friendly guide who was deeply informed. Presented the complex history of Jamaica with appropriate balance of respect and good humor. After the house tour, had a WONDERFUL experience watching a dance troupe perform traditional dances.

This was the second great house I've visited in Jamaica and it was the better of the two. Seville Great House is a national monument and is respectfully focused on the story of the Jamaican people rather than the contents of the house and the family who owned it. It was informative and the whole experience didn't leave me with mixed emotions about being there unlike the previous great house I visited. The whole site has a lighter atmosphere and vibe probably due to the way it addresses Jamaica's history and slavery in particular. If you're interested in history then it's worth a visit.

Learn about the history of civilization in Jamaica via an interactive and visually aesthetic Great House setting. Artefacts are well preserved and quite extensive from the colonial periods and are quite fascinatingly communicated via a tour guide associated with the JNHT. The reconstructed Great House by the grandson of the original owner has been perfectly restored and preserved without structural integrity being compromised. The estate is quite extensive and what's very interesting is the replicas of the huts of early Jamaican residents in the nearby grounds. The hilltop view overlooks an extensive portion of azure blue waters of the north coast.

This was a fascinating stop on our trip. Eldon was our guide and he was so very informative. Eldon walked us through history and then allowed for any and all questions. The exhibits were amazing and well displayed to assist in the progression of the islands occupants.

Highly recommend this stop for anyone - local, or visiting from afar, to learn a detailed history in an authentic setting with knowledgable staff.

We included this destination in an all-day private excursion to Ocho Rios from Melia Braco Village in late January, and much to our surprise, it was one of the highlights of the day. Lucked out with no cruise ship tours there at the time, and had a two hour tour of house and grounds with Michelle our very informative guide. The cultural history of Jamaica is compressed, clearly explained and brought to life in a very evocative setting that history books cannot possibly replicate. Well worth a visit even for those who may only casually interested in Jamaican history.

We learned today that some of what one of us was taught in Jamaican grammar school may not have been so accurate. Our guide, Eldon, seemed pleased that we had a little knowledge before we arrived. He really enjoyed correcting our misconceptions and we appreciated his approach. The area of this great house was in the vicinity of the first capitol, Seville, of Jamaica. The stories of the Taino being displaced and enslaved before being killed by European disease were told by the museum quality exhibits, The first conquerors were the Spaniards who brought the first African slaves; Spaniards were followed by the British who brought more slaves and established brutal control over everything in sight. Meanwhile sugar production continued on this estate. The docent also discussed abolition in Jamaica, which while much earlier than the US, took 30 years to fully implement. There were many artifacts on display. Perhaps the best of those were the very much intact limestone carvings found in the ruins of the artist's shops. There was not much information provided about the inhabitants of the great house, but the accurate historical picture made up for what most likely would have been conjecture and lore. If you like history, please take a couple of hours and travel up this lane off the main highway near Ocho Rios and go back into history. We could not help but reflect on US history related to treatment of Native Americans and African Americans in the United States. The visit left us with plenty to talk and think about.
