Unless you want to be hit for six, stay well clear of Gumbet bars, and their jaw dropping prices.

The resort itself is very quiet, not a great deal to do

The season is just getting started in Gumbet. When we arrived on 19th April many shops and bars were either closed or having work done to open.
The town is not dirty as previously suggested, just typical of a lot of places “abroad. The beach area is fine, getting cleaned and ready for the summer influx. Clear sea with a sandy/pebbly beach. There is no promenade like Bodrum and Bitez but is is easy to walk the beach length and along past the harbour. There are bars most of the way along, some quiet and some horrendously noisy…catering for young visitors. Try The Gumbet Cafe, 75tl for a coffee. It is council run for the community with an excellent play park next door. You are spoiled for choice with the amount of eateries along the Main Street.
Avoid Bar Street in the evening as it is geared up for partying that goes on til the early hours, often 4am.
The many shops sell the usual knock off gear so smile nicely and walk on if approached by the staff. There are 4 main branches of supermarket, Bim, Sok, Carrefour and Midgras.
The little shuttle buses run very frequently to Bodrum and cost pennies.
There is nothing wrong with Gumbet and we have enjoyed our holiday.

I mean, it’s a cesspit and a scam if you want an overall view but, I’ll add some detail. First of all, it’s dirty, really dirty, the locals have no pride in cleaning the streets at all. The beach is non-existent because it’s basically just a strip of bars and night clubs which by beach night club standards across the world are really grubby. Teens and 20-somethings would enjoy it, but us in our 30’s want something more upmarket and this is not it. My honest opinion is, that if you came here as a group of single girls you’d be hounded by local men, plying you with alcohol. If you came as a group of single guys, chasing those single girls, you’d probably get into some trouble with the locals fighting over them like it’s a meat market. No joke, it’s a bit sleazy here.

The traders are super aggressive in this area (not all) and will try to drag you into their shop or yell at you from across the street, even chase you; this is the same experience for restaurants and bars. If you look even for one second at a T-shirt or a menu for example, that’s it, in their mind you’re interested and you aren’t leaving without going in and buying something. I don’t know what Turkish men need to hear this, but everyone hates it and I bet you lose more customers with it than if you left them alone. So, we use the tactic of side-eyeing, the tactic of looking without appearing to look, which is helped with sunglasses. Sounds crazy, but after being grabbed 40 times you get a bit tired of it. Some shop keepers come up with some ludicrous prices for replica goods…I’m talking UK outlet prices for knock offs. When you’re in the shop you’re followed around and the ugliest of things are thrown at you to buy…it’s like the junk lady from Labrynth. If you’re weak willed you’ll decide if you like the price they say and pay it, but we like to smash them to pieces and walk out with the lowest price we can. It often works, with some feelings hurt perhaps but they’re not making a loss and we’re probably better at haggling than they are sometimes. In some cases, you develop good respect for each other and further shopping experiences with them are a breeze. Be strong, set a maximum price in your mind that you’ll pay for that item and don’t budge. On occasion you can’t reach an agreement and you just walk away, maybe later that day they’ll grab you again and do the deal. However, be warned that they will do anything they can to not allow you to leave the shop without a purchase and at this point you just need to say ‘no thank you’ and walk out.

There is one shop I recommend and that is Partner’s clothes and shoe shop. The owners are friendly, not pushy and respectful. Clothing quality varies massively in this area but theirs was pretty good! That’s this towns only redeeming factor. Head to Bitez for chilled beach vibes.

Too noisy, banging music every night. Ideal for the younger generation but not us old fuddy dudes. Saying that the restaurants are fabulous, beach is lovely, sunbeds free if you purchase food and drinks there. Bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper

Some very nice restaurants but the shops spoil the resort, they are far to aggressive and 1 of the shops JD Sports is run by thieves and must be avoided at all costs.

Don't waste your money.
Hassle every where you go .
You can't walk anywhere outside your hotel without being fleeced.
Beach is lovely but unfortunately that's it .

We had a good few bargins from the local shops, we were able to haggle, and most didn't hassle you. However, one shop in particular made me feel very intimidated. Mister bond, I told him I was willing to browse, but I did find some nice T shirts, and my son found a few things he liked. When we asked about the price, it was extortionate, and considering they are replica products, we refused to pay and tried to haggle. To cut a long story short, we made a swift exit, only to be called names and his colleagues trying to stop us from getting out, with the items getting stuffed into a bag and them chasing us for the money. Hence, we never returned to that shop. Thankfully, we found another shop down the road, no hassle, and for less. All the other shops were great and no trouble at all. But I muched preferred the markets.

Really disappointed by this resort. It is clearly struggling as it was the end of May and extremely quiet. As you walked along you are accosted by every shop (where are you from? is usually the question to get you to start talking) They are all struggling due to the Turkish economy and the after effects of Covid. People told us that prices had gone up 50% from last year.
It seems they have decided that the way forward to encourage people to visit is to allow several open air night clubs to bellow a lot of noise (aka Turkish music). It means staying in places where you may not get to sleep until 1.30 every night when that stops. There are many places in Europe which provide that and are far superior. I was told a lot of Turkish men go to these places so women should heed the warning.
The beaches are nothing special and apart from a lot of bars and restaurants there is little else. This used to be a popular resort, probably as it was cheap, but now that has gone, it no longer has anything to offer. There are plenty of better Turkish resorts.

Truly awful! Been here many times but made the mistake of staying more central this time . The noise ( cannot call it music) is horrific until sometimes as late as 4am!! Truly hell on earth . I suppose a certain type of person might find it fun ( seem to me an awful lot of overly tattooed Brits here ). How they allow this to noise to go on so late is beyond me . An over priced noisy dirty place with pushy rude shop workers.. Never again .
