We drove to Parracombe to start from the carpark. The village itself is nice but not a lot to do. If you are prepared to walk to the top of the hill you will be rewarded with extensive views. We went on a slightly cloudy day, so a clear day you would be able to see much further. The circular route went towards Challacombe and back to Parracombe.

Quaint village and definitely a step back in time although to be honest not lots to see. Worth stopping if you are in the area but I wouldn’t go there especially. Had a nice meal in the village pub.

What a great opportunity to assist local community members when they put out a call to assist identifying and recording the details of the St Petrocks Church grave site markers (tombstones). Locals were aiming to updte the recorded information, last done in 1917 by the local Vicar. Great fun. This was followed by a talk, as part of the English Heritage Festival by the National Trust, on the old church itself (wonderful and colourful history of the 600 year old building). What a wonderful way to meet and support the locals.

Um...,well checked a few of the TripAdvisor reviews before we drove to Parracombe & drove here with great expectations.
Sadly we drove through it twice & really could not see anything worth stopping for.
We were here in March, so perhaps it all comes to life in the main tourist months 🤔

ancient old church, with interesting graveyard, including a victim(s) of the devastating floods of Lynmouth in 1952.
Worth a quick visit, to the actual village, just off the main road. We drove through the very tiny lanes, but didn't stop in the village as we couldn't find anywhere handy to park our minibus, but would be worth walking around.

So good the Trust have secured this typical village for posterity. Nothing spectacular but a small village which lost 3 villagers to the 1952 floods which swept on to Lynton and on down to Lynmouth causing terrible loss of life and devastation. Hard to believe now that an immense storm up the valley could do so much damage. Great pub to eat in and they have rooms too.

Charming little Exmoor village on a sylvan valley floor below the A39. Good starting point for fine walks in attractive countryside, and handy for the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (its revived section) at Woody Bay station. The Fox & Goose pub offers good food and provides accommodation. Parracombe, for the most part a tiny collection of cottages lining a steep, narrow street, still has a post office, though it closes at 1pm each day. The medieval church is worth examining. For a stylish souvenir, visit the excellent pottery next to the Fox & Goose.
