There are many beautiful places on riverside around Medinipur and South 24 Parganas. Geonkhali near Haldia is one of them. It is 103 K.M drive from kolkata. It can also be reached by train. Nearest Rail station is Satish Samanta Halt on Howrah - Haldia route. A Toto can be hired from the station to reach the place which is around 8 K.M. The Rest house of Haldia Development Authority on the riverside is the ideal place to stay. Online booking available at Haldia development Authority website. As the name implies Tribeni Sangam , three rivers - Hooghly, Damodor and Rupnarayan meet here. Hours can be spent sitting in the balcony of the Guest House. Fish lovers can enjoy different dishes on prior order. If you have time then you may visit Mahishadal Rajbari 10 minitues drive from this place.

Sarat Chatterjee ,whom Nobel committee missed and failed sadly to give the Nobel prize ,the famous or most famous writer of Bengali literature ,lived last years of his life in this house. He welcomed many including Bengal Revolutionaries ,my father was one of them .he mentioned his pet Kakatua bird ,his pet goat , which were true ,confirmed this time by the local guide, many well known Bengali leaders came here, Sarat Chandra’s hospitality was well known ,they all enjoyed coming here in this house, the house has his bed furniture writing arrangements his Hubble bubble the books he read .
Surrounding very pleasant with garden and flowers, the Rupnarayan river was just next to the house ,and lands around the house later was sold .as was mentioned by local guide. Just near is a pathway to river bank ,pleasant walk ,green veg patches and birds flying, only thing which perhaps Sarat Chandra would not have liked the loud monotonous Bollywood song and young people dancing ,also saw heaps of plastics and dirtts on river bank thrown around, Bengali culture perhaps is not the same what was in Sarat Chandra’s time,

On our trip to Deulti, we visited this sacred place. Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay is probably the most read novelist in Bengali. this is the house where he has spent about two decades, after he came back from Burmah and before settling to Kolkata.

The house is quite spacious, with two floors and a number of rooms. There is a courtyard with a old paddy. The house is a typical Bangla design, with a few modern elements.

Sarat Chandra's used items, his homeopathic medicines and books, his wring desk, cott, are well kept. He truly lived a simple life, you can imagine.

The Rupnarayan river can be seen from the first floor verandah.

This cannot be a stand alone visit plan. Instead plan one whole day from Kolkata for Gadiara, Panitras, and Geonkhali. It will be best on any sunny day during monsoon, or just after rainy season. You can see the river Rupnarayan in it's full glory. Lots of lavish "Kashful", and greenery in its deepest colour.
Have a lunch at "shere-a-Punjab" dhaba at Kolaghat is a bonus in the route.
IN Panitras, you can see the house of our legendary writer, Kathasilpi Sarat Chandra. The house is very well maintained. Keep the vehicle near by, ask the villagers, and walk to the bank of the river Rupnarayan. You will be mesmerized standing on the bank of river. PLease do not forget to take your camera with you.
Plan your journey matching the time, so that you be there at Kolaghat or Gadiara during lunch time.
Can add Garchumuk dear park with this.
