I’d highly recommend La Kiva if you are visiting Terlingua or Big Bend NP. Friendly staff, great food and a very cool environment.

I got a Vodka Cave-Ade and it was great! My partner and I both got chicken sandwiches. I wasn't 100% sure that my entire chicken breast was cooked through so I didn't eat all of it, but what I did eat was good. Large portion sizes. Service, unfortunately, was not great. We ordered our drinks right when we sat down and they came after our food. She had forgotten to bring us water even when our drinks did come. Our food first went to the wrong table before going to us. The server didn't come back or even look in our direction until long after we had finished eating.

Recommended by a couple of people, don’t know why. Salads and sandwiches.
Asked for my burger medium rare and was told they do them medium well. This is Texas. I expect the best quality beef. Obviously, theirs is not. It was a subpar burger. Fries were good. Don’t order wine (I should have known better).
They had live music that you could clearly hear in the main dining area. The also had piped in classic rock. It was a cacophony. Asked if they could turn off the rock, apparently they couldn’t find the off button.
Saving the evening was going into the other area and listening to the band.

This is a really nice little restaurant/bar in Terlingua. I ate there twice last week, but Trip Advisor shows it as permanently closed. I think that’s a mistake and will try to notify the restaurant about this situation. Had great experiences both times I ate there. Food and service were excellent. It has a cool cave/kiva vibe and is a great place to eat or have drink. Business appeared to be good when we were there.

We decided to try La Kiva one of the locals mentioned it had reopened and it would be a cool spot to visit. I had the HooDoo burger and a prickly pear margarita. My honey had the Terlingua Two Step burger and a spiked lemonade. We really like the atmosphere and they had a band playing.

There aren’t many restaurants in Terlingua and most of them don’t have many outdoor lights, due to the dark night sky. We stopped here because they did have a lighted sign that identified it as a restaurant. It’s an unusual place with an interesting history. Despite having other choices on the menu, they were only serving pizza or BBQ on the night we visited. We’re picky about BBQ (and it was rather pricy), so we chose the pizza, which was delicious. Service was average and there was a rather noisy group next to us, but our overall visit was okay. Watch your step when visiting at night, the parking lot is very dark.

We researched the area before we visited your restaurant and read the great reviews but wanted to see for ourselves how good it was and we weren’t disappointed! We came there for three suppers on Saturday and Sunday! We got the spicy chicken and a hamburger the first night. The other two nights we got the pizza and loved it! Best “Gluten Free Pizza” ever!!! Sometimes the crust just taste like cardboard, but this was good! The “Pollo Loco” pizza was great! Great service too and the music was a bonus! We actually came a fourth time on a Sunday when a “Gospel Group” was there singing after church and invited us for lunch! They treated us like family and we enjoyed the music! Terlingua, Texas is the most friendly place in the world with really nice people!!! We will be back in two years when it’s my pick for vacation and we will not miss the “Big Chili Cookoff,” this time! We were scheduled to stay for one week, but we loved it here so we extended our stay to three weeks! I can see why people move here! Thanks for all the great memories!

My husband and I had dinner at La Kiva during a visit to Big Bend NP and it was wonderful. Cave-like setting, cool and dark. Lots of plants and unusual decorations. We went on a Thursday evening for an early dinner and there was live music and lots of locals stopping in for a drink. Friendly and attentive wait staff, the BEST salsa I've ever had,

The first time I was not too hungry. I just had an appetizer the grilled provolone cheese with chimichurri. It was excellent and very flavorful. I took home a cheese cake desert, which was nice, But just a little to sweet.
The second time I had the fillet which is 6 ounces. Grilled perfectly and very tender. Only 23 dollars.
Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
Only shortfall is the bar had no cognac.

La Kiva place is now the subject of a series called Texas Badlands on the History channel.
Unfortunately, the owner was murdered. Very sad. I don't think it is open anymore.

I am glad to say that we are open for business. The kitchen will be open in a few more weeks. La Kiva has undergone a massive renovation and is now better than ever.
