Was visiting the local area and did a walk through the abbey. So interesting and we were lucky enough to see the monks during their evening prayers. What an amazing place

What a beautiful and peaceful place.
Loved the shops, loved the chapel and really liked how the grounds made me feel.
Enjoyed a cake and fed the pigs who were so sweet!
Was not sure about visiting when a friend suggested it but very glad we did.
Definitely worth a visit.

A wonderful visit on a still November day.
The café was in a lovely corner of the gardens, very busy at lunchtime.
The present day Abbey & the old ruins dating from the dissolution are stunning, its history really interesting.
The volunteer in the shop was charming.

Enjoyed a great tea and cake in the cafe before perusing the great local products in shop. Was great to see the pigs & piglets before getting our ferry back.

Stunning and very peaceful place. I spent quite a bit of time in the chapel. Nice shop with good selection of local produce. I bought some lovely plants here.
Nice cafe where I bought some food to feed the sweet pigs. Can’t wait to return.

Everything you would expect from an Abbey, very picturesque, impressive architecture and a reasonably priced shop selling local produce.
P.s the kids trail quiz was difficult to follow!

A nice way to spend an hour or so. Very relaxing, the walk to the oldest Abby was nice. The farm shop has some lovely gifts in it.

We came here this morning. What a beautiful, peaceful place to visit. It has pigs, cows, goats, a beautiful abbey and a nice food shop. We bought gin ! And its dog friendly. Lots of lovely walks as well.

Driven past many times and seen the abbey from the ferry & so this time stopped to visit.
We arrived @ 8.45 straight off the ferry and had the pleasure of having the place to ourselves.
Plenty of parking and easy paths.
Unfortunately the shop & cafe weren't open but we had a breakfast picnic with us & it was a lovely sunny morning so picked our spot!
Plenty of benches and very peaceful yet so close to Ryde.
The church is very plain without any art etc.
Not all is open but you get to see enough.
The pig pens were probably a highlight with lots of piglets!
The goats too on the field by the drive.
We didn't do the woodland walk but will return to do that next visit.
We enjoyed our visit and recommend a stop, its a bit hairy getting out onto the A road to turn right, and only a last minute sign to the driveway.

Frequent IOW visitors, we had never been to Abbey Quarr before today - and what a treat! Really nice size attraction for a morning or afternoon, and very accessible from a wheelchair point. The pigs and goats are lovely, though the main attraction were the red squirrels! We stopped off at the cafe and the food was good - ploughmans, cheese scone, cream tea and tuna mayo baguette all OK and very reasonably priced - service was a bit slow and the wasps were quite overbearing unfortunately. The absolute highlight was hearing the monks praying in the Abbey. Wonderful. Oh and the toilets were clean and spacious - 3 of them, one of which is for disabled/wheelchair users. Fab.

how long would it take to walk from the car ferry if we got it from southsea old portsmouth/gun whalf with a wheel car for tomorrow pls
Skrevet 5. september 2019
Don't quite know what you mean by'wheel car'?
If you're walking from the ferry port on the island to Quarr, it'll take about 35-40 minutes at standard pace.
If you mean walking around the abbey and gardens, it's about 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

Would the abbey be open to visitors during Christmas week?
Skrevet 17. august 2019
They are open every day except Christmas Day.
It's a beautiful place to visit..free but please make a donation.
Hope this helps and you enjoy the trip.

Can anyone tell me whether there is also indoor seating at the cafe?
Skrevet 29. oktober 2018
Hi Yes happy to confirm there are inside and outside tables here.
Skrevet 22. november 2018
How long should I allow for a visit to the abbey - all day or just an afternoon or morning?
Skrevet 16. mai 2018
A morning or afternoon would be suitable, remember to go and see the old ruins as well, make time for a stop in the little cafe....enjoy
Skrevet 16. mai 2018
Hi, I read in your review that you took your dog, do they allow dogs? Am visiting the island next week and have always wanted to go to the Abbey. Many thanks in advance
Skrevet 20. juli 2017
I believe dogs are allowed in the grounds but not the actual Abbey itself. I did a quick Google search and it appears to be guide dogs only. Hope that helps you.
Skrevet 20. juli 2017
Are dogs allowed in the grounds on a lead ?
Skrevet 24. april 2017
Yes I think so
Skrevet 29. april 2017
It's on the Isle of Wight, get a number 9 bus from ryde station then you need to walk down the road opposite the bus stop , the conductor will show you, . It's about a ten minute walk but there are pigs to look at on the way down to the abbey . Hope you enjoy your visit.
