Definitely worth the drive up from the East Bay on a weekday. We hiked the Chimney Rock trail, including the little spur out to the Elephant Seal Overlook. Very nice hike...maybe a couple of miles total. Mostly flat. We had great views of the beach to the south along the trail (be careful, it's precarious), and great views of the elephant seals (some were even fighting and making strange sounds)...very cool. Nice exhibits too about the lifeboat station. Only a couple of other people there. Definitely recommend!

This is a place for nature lovers and photographers alike! Chimney Rock is a beautiful easy coastal trail. If you want something a little more rigorous then you might want hike the Estero trail. Its longer but will take you through the estuary as well as bits of forests and ranchlands.

the trail we went on was at the one of a single lane road where cars going both ways shared the road so drive slow, but well worth it, to take a short shoreline trail and see cows on the hillside grazing with elephant seals down below carrying on and talking their talk quite loud lol

We started out on the Earthquake Trail, which is an easy, level, 7/10 of a mile loop trail. It is accessible to wheelchairs and has a short spur to the fence line that was moved 16 feet during the 1906 earthquake. This is a pleasant trail for everyone.
As we started the 35 minute drive toward the Point Reyes Lighthouse, the wind picked up and the air got colder. Along the road to Drake's Beach we encountered a small herd of native Tule Elk. Drake's Beach was nearly empty and we enjoyed a secluded walk along the beach. There were no elephant seals in sight.
Driving toward the lighthouse we encountered many black-tailed deer and the views were beautiful. We walked part of the way along the path toward the lighthouse, which was closed, but the wind and cold sent us back to the car. Everywhere you looked was a fantastic view.
Point Reyes is a unique spot, rather barren and open to colder and windier conditions than near Highway 1, but it is definitely worth spending time here and hiking as many trails as you can. In the summer the weather is probably warm, but still windy.

Took just about a half-day to explore this area. The lighthouse trail was closed as I was there during the week, but the Chimney Rock hike was nice. Being from the desert, it was just awesome not to be burning up on a trail, having the smell of the ocean, the cool breezes and the amazing views.....

What an amazing park. Be sure to do the Tule elk preserve hike to the point. It is an incredible hike with beautiful views of the water. Make sure to follow the path out to the point and stop for lunch before you trek back. We had a sunny lightly windy day. It was perfect!
We hiked most of the trails where the elephant seals were with their pups. What a sight they were! Go see the Cyprus trees along the old radio station spot. You’ll be in awe of that. And of course the light house is a must see but you can’t go down because of covid restrictions.

There are few better and more interesting places to hike along the Pacific Ocean than Point Reyes. Read up on the geology of this place and you will be even more amazed. Point Reyes started out hundreds of miles to the south in traveled North along the San Andreas fault.

This was a very good trail. Well maintained but busy with people and bikes. Need to watch out for horse droppings everywhere. Lots of shade and good markers for the different trails. Moderate level hike, mostly due to distance. The incline/decline was gradual which makes the trail very doable. We ended up taking to the coastal trail to Kelham Beach rather than walking to the end of this specific trail. Parking lot gets full fast so arrive early. Starting very early also gives you a better chance of seeing the local wildlife.
