Require to take off the shoes, so be prepare for visiting inside the museum.
Beautifully preserved wooden structure, originally built in 1913 as a public bathhouse. Learn about the fascinating history of Beitou as a hot spring resort town through interactive exhibits and displays.
A quick visit, worthwhile for history buffs or anyone curious about a different side of the city.

The museum is well kept despite being a historical building. I like the central area in the building with tatami mats where we can rest while admiring the view from the balcony. Don't miss the chance to go through the interactive videos on the history of hot spring resorts.

Super little free museum gave a good overview of the area. Watched a great little film with English subtitles about how the community had come together to regenerate the area. Liked putting on the little slippers

A quaint, open air museum that was actually a little boring IMO. You can visit if you’re interested in the history of hot springs.

Right Next to the fantastic public library. Lovely old bath building; I learned a lot about Beitou. I wouldn’t make a special trip for this, but it’s worth stopping in if you are in Beitou Hot Springs area. not to be confused with the Beitou museum— 2 different museums

Beitou is to Taipei City what Bath is to London. Of course the scale of Beitou is much smaller, and the history is much shorter.
Built in 1913, this building was the largest and most gorgeous public bathhouse in Southeast Asia at that time. Covering an area of about 700 square meters, It is a beautiful two-story building with Japanese-Western architecture style. The first floor comprises two baths and the second floor is a wooden rest area.
It was almost abandoned after the WWII, and once was planned to be demolished and converted into a cable car station. In 1994, thanks to the hard work of several native-loving teachers from Beitou Elementary School and an architecture graduate student, it was survived and preserved. The building is currently approved as a historic site by Taipei City.
The building and garden were transformed into a museum displaying the history and culture of Beitou. The building has been brilliantly renovated and the museum is very well run. Many volunteers are on site providing outstanding service.
However, my personal opinion is that some areas may be overly decorated, such as the large bath on the first floor. It would be better if it could be restored to its original appearance.

Beitou Hot Spring Museum

This Victorian style building of red brick and white stucco is one of Beitou's most significant heritage buildings. It was originally a public bath house, Taiwan's first. The Romanesque pool and columns date from the Japanese colonial era (1895-1945) and have now been restored to their former glory. Many intriguing artifacts and information displays provide an insight into Beitou's glory days.

Can Beitou be visited during a layover at TPE Taipei airport of six to eight hours? How long does it take to reach Beitou from TPE by taxi or train?
Skrevet 7. desember 2023
Most of the tourist spots of Beitou are in the area of "New Beitou (Xinbeitou)". So, if you take MRT, the destination station should be "Xinbeitou (R22A)".
