The winding mountain road and the beautiful cherry blossoms in the mountains
Beautiful red cherry blossoms and bird watching in the woods
Surprised at the bend, red cypress and couple trees
On the top of the white snow jade mountain, a solitary shadow leans against the blue sky

~One week before the Spring Festival, I drove through Shuili to Xinyi Caitou, Nantou, and Wanggao Tea Garden to enjoy the flowers. Then I followed the winding road. You can see the high mountains on the roadside. Along the way, you can see the beautiful cherry blossoms in Xinzhong Heng to Tatajia. I passed by in impression. Not far from the Wanggao Tea Garden, you can see the stone road boundary of "Yushan National Park" on the roadside. Since I have just arrived here, I am not familiar with the geography and road conditions. Although I know that I can reach the Yushan trailhead via Tatajia, I still have no idea why it is still more than 20 kilometers away from Tatajia. It’s no big deal to set up a national park boundary marker just a kilometer away!

During the Spring Festival vacation, due to a mistake in accommodation in Puli, fate brought Daughter back to his old place. Unexpectedly, not long after passing the Wanggao Tea Garden this time, I was surprised to see the remaining white snow on the opposite mountain after turning the corner. I was amazed and admired the beautiful scenery, and then I realized that I had passed through the "Yushan National Park". "Park" boundary monument, Yushan is always beside Xinzhong Heng. There are few cars and the scenery is beautiful. It is very enjoyable to drive slowly among the high mountains and ridges!

Ten days later, at the mountain viewing rest area that we would pass on the way, the cherry trees had already grown leaves, probably because there were relatively fewer mountain birds foraging in the woods. Many of the bird watchers with cannons ten days ago had also disappeared. The Tataga couple Because it is the Spring Festival holiday, there are more tourists taking photos of the tree. Although the couple's tree is now standing alone, the blue sky is accompanied by it and the contrast is very beautiful. Life in the universe sometimes ends, and what I can control as much as possible is just "The light that shines on each other when we meet" should be cherished when good connections come together!

We went here for our Mt. Jade hike as completion of my Asia trilogy. The mountain is beautiful. We were very fortunate about the weather as it did not rain and there is sea of clouds. The number of foreigners hiking in Mt. Jade is limited. I believe this is a good effort to maintain the mountain and the park. It is clean. The mountain can be cold though particularly if you hike near the winter season.

Like Ronald's earlier review, we were looking for a day hike and decided to follow the hike they had taken.

We took the clockwise option, after the short hike up from the Tataka carpark to the Hemlock Fir tree. We then took the trail (off the road) from Yushan Trailhead to Linjhih Peak, then continued on from there.

As it only took us 1.5 hours to get to Linjhih peak, we continued on to Lulin Peak and then Lulin Front Peak before heading down to the road and completing the circuit back to Hemlock Fir Tree, then back to carpark.

All up it took us 3.5 hours at a decent pace with a few stops. I'd suggest people with average fitness allow 5 hours, as it is a good workout. If you go the direction we did, you can also cut off Lulin / Front Lulin peaks if you are slow or don't want to continue, as the trail cuts back to the road 10 minutes after Linjhih peak.

Also I'd advise skipping Lulin Front peak as there is nothing up there except a cell phone tower and micro-observatory. No view and not worth the effort to get up.

everything relatively easy. from permit process, application of the lodge, the surrounddings and yeah the hike too! it's easy to compare mt kinabalu because it doesn't steep at all, but you must train yourself 3-4 times a week for this hike so you won't suffer muscle ache after the climb.

Sharing some transport details for those visiting Taiwan and wish to trek the highest (Yushan) and 2nd highest (Xueshan) mountains in a trip. Applying of the relevant permits, details can be found easily online. I did a 2 days 1 night Mt Xueshan trek follow by a single days Mt Yushan trek in Dec 2018. Start from Taipei airport to Taipei train station by bus 1819 NT$125.Train to Yilan NT$218. From Yilan train station take a short walking distance to the bus station, take bus 1751 NT$285 (dep 1240hr) to Lishan. Get off at Wuling farm ( arr 1525hr). Check into Hoya hotel.
2nd day after breakfast walk to the police station apply for the mountain permit and start your trek to Mt Xueshan peak. Hitch-hike to the starting point if possible. Trek to 369 hut and rest for the day.
3rd day start trekking at 0130hr and catch the sunrise at Xueshan summit. Return back to visitor centre to catch bus to yilan, Last bus dep at 1410hr. We reach the visitor centre late as we cant hitch any car. So we change route and took the 1540hr bus to Lishan. Spend a night in Lishan, if you want save on hotel you could try a night stay in the temple for free. But we did not as we really need a good shower and sleep after the Mt Xueshan trekking.
4th day we took a 9 seaters van which cost NT$600 per person to bring us to Taichung speed rail station. (can be arranged once you arrive in Lishan, look for those vendors selling fruits at the bus station. They could help you to make the arrangement). Upon reaching Taichung, take a train to Chaiyi NT$215. Stay a night in Chaiyi. Remember to try the turkey rice which is a must try in Chaiyi.
5th day take the bus 7322 NT$240 to Alishan (2hr). Get the ticket at Alishan 7-11 to Sun moon lake, bus 6739 alighting at Upper Dongpu NT$60 (dep 1pm or 2pm). Check into Dongpu villa NT$300 ( You can ask the Yushan national park staff to assist in the reservation).
6th day start the trek at 2am. Proceed to drop the permit at the police station and trek to Yushan peak.. Return back to Dongpu villa. Last shuttle service at 5pm. Stay 1 more night Dongpu as last bus to Alishan is 11.30am
7th day take the 1st bus at 10.30am to Alishan NT$68 then by train to Chaiyi NT$240. From Chaiyi you could choose to return to Taipei or Kaoshiung by train. We choose Kaoshiung and spend another wonderful times at Kaoshiung night market.

*bring enough food and water for the trekking.
*water can be replenish at 369 hut for Xueshan trek and Paiyun lodge for Yushan trek.
*bring own sleeping bag for 369 hut.
*Xueshan trek is harder then Yushan trek.
