One of iconic building at Tainan. You could feel vintage vibes at the whole building and finding some good quality stuff. Check their operating hour before you visit. Will be nice if you visit at the afternoon, you could have afternoon tea/coffee at the rooftop while the sun goes down

This is a landmark building dating to the Japanese Colonial period. When built it was one of two buildings in the island with then state of the art elevators. Its definitely a pretty building, especially at night and a building you'd want to visit if you like landmarks.

A wonderful building with a sense of history, elevator. The food was delicious, and the shopping was great. The view from the rooftop was also great. It was far from the hotel where I was staying, so I took a taxi, but when I gave them a note with the destination written on it, they immediately understood.

It seemed that most things in Taiwan are inexpensive in comparison with things in countries we're more familiar with - South Kore, Japan, and the US. However, while many of the items at this department store are unique and would make good gifts, prices are Japanese-level for most of them. Even if you don't buy much, the building, which was constructed almost 100 years ago, is interesting to walk around and has an aold-fashioned elevator that has been updated to modern safety standards. I wouldn't say it's a must-see if you are not interested in buying anything, but it's a good place to spend some time waiting for a nearby restaurant to open for dinner.

The former glory of Tainan is best explored in this luxury department store. Hayashi was the fanciest place in the historic city and still amazes visitors with the gleaming lift and unparalleled panorama. Getting a cup of coffee at the rooftop cafe will be a relaxing experience.

Lam Department Store was originally Lam Department Store opened in 1932. It was the first modern department store with elevators in Tainan during the Japanese occupation, and it was also the tallest building in Tainan at the time. Lin Department Store is an eclectic building made of steel and concrete, both Japanese and Western. It has a parapet on the top floor and round windows on the facade to create a gorgeous atmosphere. There is also a shrine on the top floor, which was a symbol of Tainan's prosperity at that time. After the war, the Lin Department Store building was moved to public utilities and government departments. It was listed as a historic site and then renovated and outsourced for bidding. In 2014, it reopened under its original name of Lin Department Store. After nearly 70 years, it once again became a fashion indicator of the city. Lin Department Store currently sells cultural and creative products, daily necessities, and souvenirs, as well as restaurants and cafes. It is a popular attraction in Tainan's old city. There are many tourists on weekends and holidays, and you have to queue up to take the elevator.

First Japanese departmental store. Do take the lift up to the fifth floor where you can have a coffee or iced tofu pudding in the quaint old shops.

After, browse through the five floors to see the various clothing and shoes and household goods.

What was supposed to be a 30 minute shopping spree became a 1 1/2 hour stint through the independent and original stalls across each floor.

Hayashi Department Store was established in 1932 by Japanese businessman Hayashi Fangichi. It is the second department store in Taiwan and the first in southern Taiwan. It is also the only department store in Taiwan with a shrine. The opening date was only two days later than the Juyuan Department Store in Sakae Town, Taipei City at that time. The two were also ranked as the two largest department stores in the north and south of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial period. The remains of the shrine’s torii gate behind the souvenir shop on the top floor are the only remaining sky shrines in a shop building in Taiwan.

Traditional building converted into a shopping center. What I like most about the interior is that they mixed in some antique amongst the things for sale. This and the antique lift really makes one feel like they are transported back a century. There’s a Japanese shrine on top.
