Onf 28 February 1947 the native Taiwanese rose up against the corrupt rule of the mainland Chinese governor. The rebellion was suppressed, but blood was shed. This Museum has many interesting exhibits from the 2-28 Rebellion, which will illuminate a little-known episode in Taiwan's history,

On 28 February 1947, the native Taiwanese rose up against the mainland government. They were defeated, but not before m any lives were lost on both sides. This Museum does not have much English, but it's interesting.

Prior to visiting, I had heard only viery little about the events that led to the creation of this museum. I came away with a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding the period of civil unrest from 28 Feb 1947 led to the 'White Terror' martial law that were imposed in Taiwan for over three decades. That, today, there is a museum that serves that describes the turbulent events and encourages study and debate, and a park surounding the museum (along with similar ones in other parts of the country) that memorialises the victims, is a tribute to the maturity of the Taiwanese people. It's also worth some time either or before a visit to th emuseum to take a stroll around the fairly small memorial park which is graced by several exhibits, some of which are conventional sculptures, while others could be described as somewhat avant garde.

This isn't just a showpiece, it's used by the locals - the playground was very busy and different groups were giving speeches on Sunday.

This museum, located in the eponymous park, is worth a visit. It memorializes the events of 2-28-1947, when friction between native Taiwan residents and KMT troops led to violence and the deaths of many unarmed civilians.
N.B.: Many of the exhibits have no English signage, but it's still worth the visit. The museum staff is very helpful, and it is possible for what is in English to understand this horrific event in the modern history of Taiwan.

The 228 Incident defined modern Taiwan. It poisoned relations between the mainlanders and and native Taiwanese for years. This is an interesting museum, the docents are friendly. There is a small entry fee. Some features are very interesting, such as the way the people communicated using radio, which was a new technology. Radio was much faster tban mail or newsletters. The museum makes the point that the Taiwanese also fought against Japanese colonial oppression.
