We have visited Kangra Fort with 10 and 3 years old, and whatever I say is not enough. It's not a place for fuzzy people who have high expectations but for calm and peace lovers. We visited this Fort, especially for Aadinath temple at top, which is almost 4000 years old. Though Fort is not in great condition after the earthquake, it's still a good place to view. You must go if you have children who are fond of rich history.

Very customer friendly. You can't pay cash and you can't pay in any other Western way. You will not be helped. Don't come here because you come here for nothing!

We climbed this fort on a very hot day and time (38 degree Celsius), hence probably found this a lot more tiring. Having said that the fort has a chequered history and the audio guide was helpful in understanding the fort much better. Most of the fort is in ruins which adds to the charm.

Kangra Fort is perhaps the definitive fort in North India, apart from Rajasthani forts.
And for a fort buff like myself, it was remarkable since the fort ruins (yes, an earthquake destroyed a substantial portion of the fort in 1905) were not only well-preserved by the ASI (The Archeological Survey of India) but were also brought to life through an entertaining and interesting audio-guide facility, at par with museums in the Western world.
Perhaps the only fort that has successfully warded off 52 attacks (sometime in the B.C. era) and is also linked to the great Porus (the North Indian king who refused to submit to Alexander the Great despite being defeated by him), the Kangra fort was perhaps the most strategic and important fort in the whole of North India (except Rajasthan).
The current-day fort ruins lie along a partly-steep, slightly long and slightly tiring walk inside the fort premises - be sure to bring along a bottle of water, a cap/ shades and yes, comfy walking shoes (you'll need them from sure).
Enter the fort through the Ranjit Singh gate, pass through various gates and the fort ramparts and then finally wind up at the topmost viewing point (the terrace) from where you can get a magnificently sweeping view of the entire valley (not recommended though for the weak/faint-hearted or those who are a wee bit afraid of heights).
Also do visit the Raja Sansar Chand museum near the fort premises (at a short distance uphill from the fort) - which houses some interesting relics, displays and other exhibits of the Katoch kings (the rulers of the Kangra fort).
And here also don't forget to take the audio-guide, which brings these displays to life

Whilst in Dharamshala we visited Kangra and its fort, an amazing structure on a hilltop which according to history remained undefeated by the Moguls. There are a lot of steps to walk up so if you are less mobile, do give this a miss. The views from the top of the fort are amazing. We also saw some ancient carvings of deities etched into stone. A special place to visit steeped in history.

A ruined fort which was restored after 1905 earthquake and it was build by Rajput.
We hired a audio guide for explain but vain hope due to non functioning.
The location of the fort on a hilltop adds to its charm. There is a bit of walking to be done to reach top of the Fort from where you’ll get beautiful view of the Dhauladhar ranges.
The fort is protected monument under Archiological Survey of India. Entry tickets of Rs.25/-.

A place with historical importance has been ignored. The place is located at the confluence of the banganga and Manjhi rivers and the fort overlooks the vast Kangra Valley. The fort was conqured by Muhmud Ghazni in 1009 CE. The same was under british occupation when Maharaja Ranjeet Singh was defeated by them. being one of the centrally protected monument the same has been neglected even when it comes to basic facilties like Toilet. Govt of HP can start a light and sound show to show its mantle to the world.

Lovely views from the top, as you admire the steep Kangra Valley from all sides. The fort itself is a unique piece of history, though I have been more impressed with the ones I saw in Rajasthan. There is also a nice museum here!
