Definitely one of the Top 3 spots in the North.
I could say, no need for words, just take a look at the pictures.
But it needs some explanation.
This reserve is actually 2 sites (same ticket and entrance fee): the Stream and Waterfall, and the Archeological site a few minutes drive from there.
This one is the one with the Archeological findings and the path in the woods.
It is interesting as well as beautiful because it includes this 45 minute walk along the stream and shows some other surprises
The 2nd site is the Waterfall site.
It has a wooden path which goes along the stream and which is quite comparable to the Austrian Liechtensteinklamm at Alpendorf (near Salzburg) or Canyon Vintgar in Slovenia, just shorter, around 20 minutes.
But absolutely impressive in winter of course during the rainy season.
However in Summer it still is beautiful...and refreshing.
On your way to the stream you'll find beautiful flowers and also...but just look at the pictures.
Bottom line, a Must.

Try arrive before 2pm because the Nature reserve closes at 4 pm and you need time to walk along the pathways. There are steep steps even on the "easier" trail which took about 45 minutes. I suggest good walking/hiking shoes and take water with you.
There are benches to relax and there are nature guides to answer questions. The guides were very knowledgeable.
The hiking trails are very well marked and the map which you get on entry gives lots of information. Its possible to have a picnic at certain spots in this beautiful park.
Its not wheelchair friendly and a fair level of fitness is best

Lovely park, if you arrive before the bus tours. Many hyraxes! And some great water birds. Ancient temple ruins. Easy to walk around the site.

There is the Stream which is really impressive in winter when it rains.
You walk along it on a wooden path for 20 to 30 minutes depending on how many pictures you take and how crowded the site is (beware of the Israeli feast periods).
In Summer it is cool and refreshing but the stream is not as powerful as during the rainy season of course.
Besides the stream itself you have plenty to see: if you get there right at the opening, meaning if you're among the first to enter the site you will see plenty of wild life.
Just take a look at the pictures.
And if you're there, jump to the next site with the Archeological findings and more water and streams, it's called Banias as well and very much worth your time
Bottom line: a must see site to visit all year long.

Walking along the stream, that eventually joins the Jordan river, is a wonderful experience for the entire family. Amazing archaeological excavations. Enjoy.

The entire area is clean, paths are well marked, the view is stunning. Even the ruins are pretty cool. See together with the waterfall. They are at seperate enterances on the same ticket, or hike the trail from one to the other (about an hour each way).

Which is amazing by itself as it is one of the biggest and strongest in Israel.
It is also the park and all the greenery all around.
Just make sure to visit after a strong rain period to see this beautiful Waterfall at its best and all the streaming all around, the sight will be amazing.
We had much more than average rain in Israel this winter, and therefore the currents were exceptional as well.
The lake of Kineret is filling up and all the rivers of the North are also strong.
I'd strongly recommend to buy the Matmon Card of the Israel Nature and Park Authority which will give you free access to your family all year long, to all the Nature Reserves and National Parks (including the Negev and Eilat)
You should get back your investment in only 4 visits and then you'll be able to come back as many times along the year (12 months) as you wish.

How much time do I need for the Banias? I am trying to pack in my day in the golan heights this august. Thanks!
Skrevet 3. august 2017
It depends the walk. You can wisit Banias falls by car and the drive to Banias spring - but you can also walk. Only Banias spring is about two - three hours??
