The Rhododendrons were out of control in the Spring of 2019. A spectacular view! We were blown away by what we say on this drive.

Joined a group of walkers sat 1 June on a hike through this area. It was a tough hike across the mountain and misty so no views but the flowers were in full bloom and a delight to see. Great area to hike at this time of year. The guided walks were so well organised and the food in the community hall afterwards was superb. recommend it for next year at same weekend.

The road from Clogheen to Lismore (R668) crosses the mountain. Very scenic with good view out. By the road is also very scenic.

The Rhododendrums that have grown in their natural habitat and spread over many, many years and covering hundreds of acres are the most glorious sight to behold. Starting a drive up through the scenic Vee Mountain Road situated in the Knockmealdown mountain range in Clogheen, Cahir, Co Tipperary, stretching for miles and miles covering the landscape in beautiful hues of purple. When reaching the top of the Vee, so called as the turn is a sharp V which encapsulates a viewing area that stretches from Cork through Tipperary and Co Waterford, nestled in a natural crater is Bay Lough which is absolutely stunning. Well worth a visit if in the area.

Husband and I drove out here with his middle-aged aunt for a short day hike. We parked at the Vee and did not climb knockmealdown or sugar loaf, but chose another smaller mountain nearby that looked faster and easier because we only wanted to spend a couple hours. It was very windy and cold in some spots, but got hot when the wind died down and sun came out. I would strongly recommend lots of layers. In the course of a few hours, I switched between a tank top, to sweatshirt jacket, to windbreaker with hood up several times. A knit headband or hat would have been much appreciated because it was so windy. Husband and I wore hiking boots, and we were glad to have them, but his aunt only had walking shoes, and she made the hike just fine. It was a bit more difficult than we expected. The trail is not very defined in some places, and there are areas where you have to climb over rocks or through brush. Husband and I are young and in shape, so we found the hike pretty easy, but his aunt had to stop and rest a lot on the steep parts. She's healthy and in reasonably good shape for her age, but not athletic. I would not recommend this hike for anyone elderly or in poor shape.

Best parts of the hike were seeing sheep families grazing on the mountainside and the views of the valleys. At the top we found some cairns and windbreaks that we rested and had a snack at. Lovely day, and it was really nice to get outdoors and be active.

Park at the Vee and you have a choice of two walks or a loop if you have navigation.
Great views but choose the weather carefully!

To enjoy this area, hardly anyone around, quite challenging on the roads, however, high up in these ranges there is no one else about, definitely worth getting out and enjoying it.

La montagna più alta della catena è Knockmealdown, si trova sulla vecchia strada che attraversa il passo tra la città di Lismore e Clogheen.
Naturalisticamente parlando è un paesaggio bellissimo, ma guidare....
