Superb landscape !!! You will be not only on sides and ridges of fantastic mountains, but also in the gorges between them and walking on the vertical walls of the cliffs. The scenery is breathtaking. And every turn makes your jaw drop again to a different view.
Getting to the top of ridges takes some walking, but the paths are the best I have ever seen anywhere in the world, wide and secure.
The signs are written both in Mandarin and English. Google maps is useless there, but OpenStreetMaps does a good job.

We stayed in a hotel in Ziyuan. The hotel arranged the taxi for us. The driver drove us to the Geo Park and waited the four hours for us, while we walked the circuit. It was without doubt our most enjoyable day in China. The scenery has to be seen to be believed. The walks are well marked and safe (walking shoes). Unlike Guilin and Yangshuo here is not overrun with tourists. The steps are many and steep. So a certain level of fitness is needed. You Need to bring drink with you. The taxi cost only 150 RMB which was very cheap for the distance.

Be under no illusion, the walk up this hill may be stepped and not require hiking boots but it is STEEP and high and usually it's going to be hot and humid.
However, it doesn't matter how hot and sweaty you get once you're at the top - the views are second to none.
Be sure to give yourself enough time here - most of the walkways all join in a big circle but there's a couple of smaller offshoots.
There's no need for a guide as most of the iconic sights are signposted.
I advise taking a water bottle with you - they were building a store when I went but I'm not sure the hours of opening or prices.

In Guilin I took local bus 100 to the north bus station where buses leave frequently to Ziyuan. The ticket was 40 yuan and took about 90 minutes. After I arrived at the bus station in Ziyuan I took a covered moto for 2 yuan to the north bus station. Here I found a hotel for 78 yuan- there are quite a few hotels around the north station. The next morning I took the 7am van to Meixi for 12 yuan although it left at 6:55. From the Meixi bus station I found a moto taxi who charged me 20 yuan to take me to the park although 30 is also a good price. It is about 10 kilometers. I arrived right at 8:00am so the ticket people weren't out yet and I wasn't charged the 38 yuan entry. At the sign board you start the hike up. They are doing major renovations on this side of the park. But when you reach the top there are many people because the cable car reaches the top from the other side. Amazing views. I returned the same way but as I had not arranged a moto taxi there was none and instead I started walking and shortly thereafter was picked up hitching to Meixi. Then I caught a bus back to Ziyuan and only had to wait a few minutes. I spent another night in Ziyuan this time near the regular bus station and paid 60 yuan for a hotel and I spent the night because at 8:30 the next morning for 38 yuan I took a direct bus to Longji Town for the rice terraces- 3 hours.

Some information which might be useful for others: We went there by private taxi from Ziyuan (300 RMB back and forth, probably overpriced) and arrived at the place called "Bajiao Stockade Village" where there is no cablecar. We had to pay 38 RMB entrance fee (after having refused a higher, "special" price from our taxi driver). The "visitor center" was closed (forever our just temporarily?) and the place looked rather dead. The maps on the panels are quite poor and give no indication about distance/elevation/duration of the trip. Just walk along the road for about 10 minutes to the next group of houses (where there are public toilets). Then follow the locals up the hill on spectacular trails along the ridges and trough little caves etc. When you arrive close to the top of the highest peak there will be more people as they ride up by cablecar (or hike up) from the other side. On the top there are different places where they sell local food and drinks. Hiking up and down took us ~4.5 hours with some breaks. A part of the hike was closed but we still walked this part of the loop as this was what all the locals did. To get there and back is quite an adventure without knowing any Chinese, but definitely worth the trip! Do the hike and forget about the cablecar!
Very good to do in half a day and combine with Tianmen national park (Tianmen mountain of Guilin)...in case you're used to hiking.

Bajiaozhai, also known as Yuntai Mountain, Danxia landform, is located between Xinning County and Guangxi Resource County, Hunan Province. The main peak is 818 meters above sea level. It is named for its eight warping angles, and is composed of odd peaks and stone columns of various shapes. It is rare in the world for its richness and taste, and is praised by experts as "Soul of Danxia, National Treasure".
Great to visit with a Chinese speaking friend, who can read the displayed information, or use a tour guide. This is important both from the standpoint of learning about what you are seeing, and what routes are best to take.
The highest and lowest points of the park are 2,141 metres and 320 metres, respectively, and Bajiaozhai’s main peak is 814 metres above sea level. Thus, a great place for exercising your legs by climbing the steep cliffs.

Andate a leggerle. Quindi all'incrocio, scendendo, avete girato a sinistra ed iniziato a salire scalini ripidi.

Hiking up the spines of the Danxian land forms was well worth the 1,000 or more steps we encounterd. The views were spectacular. Well worth the trip up from Guilin, though difficult without a guide or basic knowledge of Chinese regarding transportation, directions and prices.

Hello, we are planning a trip to China. We will stay, among others, in Longsheng and Guilin.
We are planning to sleep at the Shengyuan Hotel in Ziyuan the night before visiting Tianmen Mountain of Guilin and Bajiaozhai National Forest Park.
Is it possible to visit both of them the same day?
Both of them have the funicular (cable vehicle)?
We'd prefer not to use it and proceed on foot. What do you suggest to do?
How long it will take to visit both (not using the funicular)?
Which one is the best?
Which are the main differences between them?
Can we find something to eat and to drink in both of them?
How did you arrange your visit there?
We'd like a private tour.
Thank you for your patience.

I will be in Xing'An later this month. Is there a bus service from Xing'An to Bajiaozhai? What time does the first bus depart Xing'An?
How much does it cost to book a car from Xing'An to Bajiaozhai?
Would really appreciate your reply. Thank you.
