It was built as the residence of the lord of Owari Domain and as the domain's government office. It was burned down in an air raid, but a faithful restoration was completed in 2018.
The gorgeously decorated interior of the palace is full of things to see, including not only the sliding screen paintings, but also the intricate carvings and decorative metal fittings!
You must follow the tour instructions under the tent before entering. (You will be warned not to carry your backpack on your back, but in front of your chest!)
You must take off your shoes before entering. It is quite spacious, so we recommend wearing slippers in the cold season.

While we were unable to enter the main tower of Nagoya Castle due to its lack of earthquake resistance, the Honmaru Palace was completed and we were able to tour its magnificent interior.
The Honmaru Palace was the residence of the lord of Owari Domain and the domain's government office. The interior of the palace is truly magnificent. With a huge number of shoji screens in each room, paintings on the walls and decorative metal fittings, it is a masterpiece of early modern castle palace construction, incorporating the cutting-edge technology of the Edo period. The carved transoms were truly magnificent, and everywhere you looked, there were magnificent works of art, including the ceiling, transoms, sliding door handles and sliding door paintings.

Since it was just before the admission deadline, I wasn't able to take a closer look, but I'm glad I was able to take a look. Gorgeous.
At the entrance, take off your shoes and store them in a shoe rack (with lock) before you tour.

If you come to Nagoya Castle, you must see the Honmaru Palace. You can see inside the palace with a guide. Some of the guides can speak English and Chinese.
This is the ultimate in luxury. I was speechless at the gorgeous interior of the palace.

It is a gorgeous and luxurious facility. It is clear that it was built when the Tokugawa's power was at its peak. The decorations on the sliding doors and ceilings are also worth seeing, and the admission fee is very cheap. To protect this facility, wouldn't it be ok to raise the admission fee a little more?

After this palace was built, another palace was soon built and the residents moved to it, so this palace was left vacant for nearly 200 years and was only cleaned occasionally. It is said that members of the Tokugawa family stayed there a total of three nights.

There are two entrances to the Honmaru Palace at Nagoya Castle. One is the entrance next to the Nakanokuchi Room, and the other is in front of the Yudono Shoin. From the entrance next to the Nakanokuchi Room, you can see the entrance hall, the Omote Shoin, the Taimensho, and the Jorakuden. From the entrance in front of the Yudono Shoin, you can see the Yudono Shoin and Kuroki Shoin. The interior is so beautiful and luxurious that it can be described as gorgeous. Everyone will be looking from the entrance next to the Nakanokuchi Room before walking to the Nagoya Castle tower, so don't forget to look from the entrance in front of the Yudono Shoin as well. There are some things to be aware of when visiting, so we recommend that you check them in advance.

As the entrance is included in the castle entry fee it is well worth the visit to see the superb craftsmanship in the reconstruction.
