The view is amazing
It’s the prettiest lake I’ve ever seen
It’s an easy hike down to the lake and it’s best to go in the summer when the snow is gone

Such a cool and unusual, not to mention easily accessible national park. An enclosed fresh water lake within a volcano. Lots of vantage points as you can drive around the rim certain months of the year. If you are brave, you can hike down to the lake and jump in for a very 'cool' dip. There is also some rocks to jump off for the adrenaline seeker.

Our first day was cloudy & rainy but the park is beautiful. The second day, the sun came out & the difference was amazing; such a blue lake! There are many trails ranging from handicap accessible to difficult multi-day hikes. It's definitely a ways off the beaten path but worth the drive. As long as you are here, I would urge you to head towards Prospect to view the Rogue River Gorge, the Natural Bridge & several other waterfalls in the area.

Crater Lake National Park in Oregon is a marvel. It’s known for its deep blue waters, which come from a unique combination of factors. Formed about 7,700 years ago from the collapse of Mount Mazama, the caldera filled with rain and snowmelt, creating the deepest lake in the U.S. at 1,943 feet. Its remarkable blue color is due to the purity of the water, which has no inflowing rivers or streams. Instead, the lake’s color comes from the way water molecules absorb and scatter sunlight. Blue wavelengths are scattered more than other colors, giving the lake its vibrant hue.
The park offers scenic experiences such as the Rim Drive, which circles around the lake and tons of hiking opportunities. The lake looks fake in real life and in your pictures you’ll take. Crater Lake also boasts the title of one of the snowiest places in the U.S., with an average snowfall of 43 feet annually, contributing to the lake’s pristine waters.

Beautiful lake! History of how this Lake was formed is amazing!! The Rim drive is spooky, narrow road with no guard rails! Be careful! Day was really nice and sunny and the views along the road was serene! Go visit before the snows begin! You will love it!

We spent three days taking in this park.
One day we hiked the rim from Rim Village to Discovery Point. Although you can get great views from many areas along the road, it is well worth hiking one of the trails along the rim. It gets you away from the road and from most of the people.
Another day we rode our bikes from Mazama Campground up the Phantom Ship overlook on the East Rim Drive. There isn't much of a shoulder to ride on but we found drivers gave us plenty of space.
Our last day was spent enjoying some hikes away from the rim down by Mazama Campground.
It's well worth spending a few days here if you have the time.

Absolutely beautiful. Amazing time here. I would stop at the visitor center first. We spent two full days here. We got up early and did the rim drive and all the stops with a few small hikes. We stopped at many on a second drive later in the day for the different light. We spent the second day on the opposite side. Did a few hikes here also. I would suggest a full 2 days for this park.

Wow! What a pretty place. We went on a day when the crowds were low and the weather was wonderful. Spent the day hiking and looking at the deep blue water. Recommend seeing this if you are ever in the area. Well worth it.

Hello! We will be in the area in mid-June and wanted to visit Crater Lake. I am trying to figure out what can be done if the roads are still closed due to snow? (what hikes, viewpoints can be accessed?) THANK YOU!

I need some advice I’m planning to come here on a Thanksgiving weekend since I have to change all my plans due to the mandate in California. I see that the Rim Village is the only open area of this park, can I still be able to see the Crater Lake/Volcano from that location and take some good photos? Thank you and I appreciate the help.
Skrevet 20. november 2020
Yes, there are spots along the well developed trail where you will have great views of the lake and the island. The trees are the only problem which will impede your view so you have to look for a good spot and there are several viewing areas to choose from. good luck and stay healthy

How long should we spend at Crater Lake to enjoy it?
My husband and I are planning a week long trip to Oregon this coming summer...one of the main reasons I wanted to go was when I saw pictures of Crater Lake! It's too beautiful to miss.
So far our trip starts us in Portland, then spend two days traveling the coast, and the plan is to drive from Newport to Crater Lake...which is about 4.5 hours. Plan: We leave Newport at 8am and arrive at Crater Lake around noon and spend the rest of the day exploring Crater Lake, then find a hotel in the area (which we haven't chosen yet). So far what I've read is that there is a beautiful drive around road and also some short hikes, which I believe we'd do...Is from Noon to say maybe five or six pm enough time to enjoy it?
Thank you!!

Will the park open in September 2020. What's the requirement due to Covid-19. What's the hotel situation
Skrevet 21. august 2020
I believe the park is open, but some facilities are closed. Now, things might change because of the fires, so be aware of that. Checks with the parks service to get more information.

Salve viaggiatori, viaggiando lungo la costa dell’Oregon, qual’è la strada migliore per raggiungere il Crater Lake? Grazie
Skrevet 15. januar 2020
By car on Interstate 5, then to Route 188 and Route 97.

Need one night's accommodation in Oct and the Lodge is not available, of course. any suggestions for a nice place reasonably nearby?
Skrevet 4. august 2019
I’ve been to Crater Lake twice. Staying at lodges in the park and at Inns outside the park had not been comfortable. Accommodations’ condition, which is below standard, appears to be a situation that we have to put up with regretfully. Crater Lake is so blue and gorgeous though! The hike down to the boat landing is fun although it could be challenging in certain portions of the trail. A hiking stick is helpful.

Hi - if you only have a single day at Crater Lake, what would you do?
Skrevet 8. juni 2019
We spent one day there. Drove the scenic rim drive and stopped at all the viewpoints. Did 2-3 short easy hikes (to Plakni Falls, Pinnacles, Godfrey Glen). Ate lunch at the historic lodge in Rim Village and walked along the rim, went in visitor center. All that and there was time to spare... you could do a longer hike or take a trolley or boat tour.
