I wasn't quite sure what to expect going to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, I was in awe.
Previous experience was a helicopter out of Vegas, to the river, and a short "boat' ride...which was great also. But I feel like now I have really seen the Grand Canyon. It's more amazing than I can say,

This was a cool spot. You could see very far and we came at sunset. The sky was beautiful but the coolest part was seeing all of the jagged tops and massive plateaus that went on for miles! Sat on a bench and enjoyed the quiet

Great scenic drive to the highest point in the Grand Canyon with excellent views. There are toilet facilities and picnic tables and sufficient parking. Great photos.

This place, along with the Cape Royal and Lodge lookouts, are the top 3 views of the canyon in our opinion. Point Imperial also has an easy trail off to the south giving more interesting views.

Nice drive and ample parking once getting to Point Imperial. Had good weather and it seemed like we could see 150 miles away. I did this as the last stop at the Grand Canyon.

Long drive what is seen other places- long and windy road particularly when you are behind someone who thinks 20 mph is appropriate

My wife and I took the drive out to Point Imperial and then on to Cape Royal. Point Imperial is the highest spot on the North Rim at 8,800 feet elevation. The drive has some really stunning views of the Park. We were there early in the morning and had the place to ourselves. If you have the time be sure to go to Point Imperial and then on to Cape Royal.

This was my favorite spot on the North Rim. It's the highest spot you can drive to on the North Rim, ~8800' above sea level. So be careful, the air is pretty thin. But the views are incredible, wide open views to the east and south-southeast. Very different than the more conventional views back at the Lodge. Really enjoyed this one. If you're pressed for time, it's a shorter option than the drive to Cape Royal and just as beautiful. But make time and do both!

I've been here several times before. Often just as a view stop and a place to picnic. It is the highest elevation parking lot in the park. And your views are east and south, different from Cape Royal or Bright Angel Overlook. But this time my intention was to hike the Point Imperial trail to the Saddle Mountain overlook. You will find the trailhead near the restroom facilities at the picnic area. Try to park in one of the nearby spots and begin your hike either at the trailhead sign next to the last parking spot or follow the exit road a bit and find the trail to your right in the scrub. The trail runs about 2.5 miles in mostly open burn terrain affording views but also holding you hostage to unkind weather elements. So prepare with this in mind. Heat, wind, and afternoon rains can be a factor. The trail is mostly level with one significant dip where you think you are getting nowhere. Keep going and make the mild ascent all the way through to the park boundary gate and Forest Service road 611 (yes, you can drive here)! Turn right and follow the road past several on-rim campsites until you reach the trailhead for Saddle Mountain. A great vista! After your respite and, maybe, picnic turn back here or continue on up to Saddle Mountain or even farther, down the Nankoweap trail to the river. If the latter interests you, be prepared to do this as a backpacking excursion.

This is a great drive to the east from the lodge on a twisty two-lane road, but well worth the time. Point imperial is the highest point in the park and provides some great views of the canyon to the east. Must see.

How is the ride to Point Imperial and Cape Royal? Does it have switchbacks and tight hairpin turns? How long does it actually take. Doing a first time visit June 2019. Thanks!

Hi, Is this place still drivable during coming Thanksgiving week? I see google map shows its closed from Oct to May. Thanks
Skrevet 3. november 2017
From my knowledge that road should be closed as part of the annual park closure from mid October to mid March.

I'm in Houston TX should I flight to AZ and then drive to the Grand Canyon

Stayed at the North Rim back in May of 2003 and the snow and winter was so bad that most roads were not open because of falling trees. The only road open was to the main lodge. We are planning to be in Page, Az. and was wondering if we could travel to the north rim and visit a couple of these missed sites such as point imperial point and angel's point in one day and travel back to Page? Thanks, Chocobill
