We were fortunate that we visited on a quieter afternoon, one where there were few people visiting the grove. This is particularly pertinent for there is a suspension bridge crossing the creek that allows on one person on it at a time, so it can back up. But that's just the silly stuff. If you are visiting the east side of Rainier and want to extend your visit, do make time for the Grove. It is a beautifully designed trail that takes you into the forest and allows you to experience its many different forms of life and grandeur.

Very impressive, huge, old-growth tree experience that is well developed boardwalks and a suspension bridge. It is a bout a 1.1 mile hike to get to the area via a relatively easy but natural path.
Would be fun for kids ... short and interesting ewxperience

The parking lot for Grove of the Patriarchs is small but since we were staying at Cowlitz River Lodge and it was only 20 minutes from our hotel, we came out late in the afternoon and found a parking spot at 4:15 pm without any issues. We came on Wednesday 8/4. Even when we left at 5 pm, there were lots of cars.
This is a 1.2 mile roundtrip easy trail through the forest. It only took us 50 minutes to complete. There is a suspension bridge and the sign said 1 person should cross so with back and forth traffic, there can be a bit of a wait. The day we came, it was hot and humid and there were some mosquitoes.
We thought this trail was OK. By this time, we were a little tired of forest walks.

We visited Grove of Patriarchs early one weekday morning and boy were we glad we did. The walk is easy and very peaceful without crowds. Some of the large trees are really neat to see and the bridge is fun to walk across. On our way back because the bridge is a one person at a time thing we waited over 30 minutes to get back across with people nicely taking turns from each side to walk across. FYI the Ohanapecosh River that runs through this area is beautiful so while you are waiting to get across check out the river also.

The trees are beautiful in this area but it is heavily used. There is a single file swinging bridge that crosses over the river to the large trees. We had to wait in line to cross the bridge. Everyone was taking turns crossing each direction over the river. The sign says one person crossing at a time but most groups walked together.

Short/easy hike but great scenery. Walk a creaky suspension bridge hovering over a small creek. We sat by the stream for a bit to enjoy the sights and sounds. Lots of fun to walk around and see the massive trees. One of our favorite stops in Mount Rainier NPS.

Beautiful old growth trees, some more than 450 yrs old. A lovely river along the trail, where we did some birding. Great place for photographs.
But nothing beats the Trees. They are so large and amazing.
This is an easy short trail with a bridge to cross the river to get to the grove, a must do when you enter the Mt. Rainier National Park from the Stevens Canyon Entrance.
Great for family and kids as well.
No pets allowed, bathrooms available at parking lot, parking can be tricky, it's a rather small lot, go early or later in the day around 3pm.

This is last activity/hike we did during our recent 3-day trip to Mt Rainier National Park.
1) This is great family hike – trail is well maintained and there are rest rooms at the beginning of the trail.
2) This seemed like a very popular hike especially with the families. The parking gets full – so, either you get here early or do it late in the afternoon. The trail head and the parking lot are very close to Steve Canyon entrance of the park. So, you might want to squeeze this in either at the beginning of the day or at the end of the day assuming you are spending the day in the Paradise area.
3) The suspension bridge is cool – kids in our family had a lot of fun walking across the bridge. After crossing the suspension bridge you will get to the grove - with huge trees!
In all, our family enjoyed this hike. I strongly recommend it especially for families with small children.

Walked the Grove of the Patriarchs on a drizzly, cold day. 10/5 off season, almost no one there. Easy flat .8 mile hike (but not wheelchair friendly). Truly a must see

This is a fairly easy hike to a display of the various trees found in Mt. Rainier NP. The suspension bridge is quite the experience.

Is it possible to see these trees? Or with the suspension bridge out is there no other access/walks that go through these trees?

Is there room in the parking lot for a small (24’) motor home?
Skrevet 20. juli 2019
We took a 25’ rv and had to wait a bit but we found a spot that fit. Also, if you pass the parking lot there are spots along the road on the right side that might fit the RV as well.
