Beautiful! The views leading up, at the lake, and up beyond are d efinitely worth it. There was a decent amount of foot traffic, but the crowds weren't too big. There was certainly still a decent amount of snow and ice this time of the year though. Microspikes were an absolute must up beyond Dream Lake. Even for more experienced hikers I would highly recommend, as we saw all those without them sliding and clinging to one another up above the lake. Fairly easy hike up to the lake for most hikers, and so worth it up above. Would definitely do this again!

After walking the loop around Bear Lake, we took the trail that leads past Nymph and Dream Lakes to Emerald Lake. We elected not to go all the way to Emerald Lake, but we did enjoy hiking to Dream Lake which was 2.2 miles round trip with a 450 ft. elevation gain. The trail beyond Dream Lake did have more snow in late June. Dream Lake is very pretty and worth the time and effort.

My husband and I completed the hike to Dream Lake 2 weeks ago. The lake was spectacular. However, the wind was HOWLING!!. The chipmunks and Stellar Jays were a delight. The trail is pretty much straight up in elevation, and can be a challenge if you are not used to the altitude. Being from Louisiana, we were NOT! But the view were beautiful. If you have a bad knee (or two!), the hike down can be difficult. A stop at Nymph Lake is a treat, as well.

We didn't spend a lot of time here since we were heading to Emerald Lake but the view was as described with plentiful pond lilies in bloom. We arrived just after noon and people were splashing in the water at the center of the lake and it wasn't as peaceful as we had hoped. The long lake parallels the trail.

The has to be one of the most beautiful lakes I've ever seen. The surrounding mountains were still snow-capped in June and the trail had some muddy and snow-covered spots, but good hiking shoes were well up to the task. It's so very much worth the 400' elevation gain!

This is a hike that will work you a bit as you climb the mountain, but you are rewarded with both Nymph Lake and this gorgeous lake. We wanted to continue further to Emerald Lake, but the trail was covered in snow and we didn't feel like we had the proper equipment.

The hike was beautiful. There was still a lot of snow on the hike. We had hiking shoes but no spikes which probably would have helped at the steep parts, but it was still very doable without them. There are so many amazing views as you get further up the mountain. Once we were there, it was just so peaceful and a great spot.

It was incredibly disappointing that our hike was totally encapsulated in fog. I would have loved to see the views of the mountains across the alpine lakes. With that said the lake was an interesting view in the fog. Despite so many people on the trail, the fog really made you feel you had the mountain to yourself. Dream lake is a nice climb from Bear Lake and even Nymph Lake. The walk over the streams between the lakes was nice as this was also the only really views we get of the lakes and surroundings. We turned around at the west end of Dream Lake as it did not seem worth the effort to go to Emerald Lake when you could only see 50 feet ahead. Still I am glad we made the trek to Dream Lake.

Hiked this in July 2022 with my wife and five small children (aged 10 years down to 4 months). It was spectacular and a highlight of our month long roadtrip from New Jersey to Colorado and back.
What worked super well for us:
- Camped at Glacier Basin campground for a week, which meant we did NOT need a timed entry ticket for the trails in the Bear Mountain corridor.
- Camped in the park, which helped us avoid the absolute insane lines to get into the park.
- Camping near the trailhead helped us to get a super early start the two days we hiked in this part of the park, as we could walk across the street to the bus area and get right onto a bus to the Bear Lake trailhead. You can also take a bus from the campground itself, but it won't go directly across the street to the hiker shuttles.
- A super early start helped us avoid the worst of the crowds, as this stretch of trail is SUPER popular for very good reasons. It also helped us take our time going uphill. There were plenty of nice spots to give the kids a break to breathe (just kidding, it was to give the adults a chance to breathe) and our 3 year old actually made it all the way up to Dream Lake under his own steam, a relief to his dad's back and lungs.
- We brought long sleeved warm layers, even though it was July. This was good, because it was super windy at Dream Lake, and we were glad that we had them so that we could eat a snack there and take time to admire the views, instead of rushing back down to get out of the wind.
- We started right up to Dream Lake instead of getting distracted by Bear Lake. We did Bear Lake after we came back down, which was very pretty, then headed over toward Bierstadt Lake for about a 7 mile hike. The trails over to Bierstadt Lake were MUCH emptier than the trail to Dream Lake, and going the direction we did put us downhill more than uphill, which was nice for the kids (aka, the adults who couldn't breathe).
What didn't work super well:
- Even with our early start, the tail end of our hike saw us get caught in the daily afternoon storm because we just didn't move that fast between the views and the kids. Going down the zillion switchbacks from Bierstadt Lake to the shuttle bus while getting poured on (we did have our rain suits, thankfully) wasn't ideal, but at least we were part way down already when the rain started. I'm REALLY glad we got such an early start so that we didn't end up in the storm for a much longer stretch.

Excellent hike with two senior citizens and two young kids in tow. Plenty of spots to stop and catch your breath on the way up. Highlight of our visit to the park that day!

Where is the best place to fish in Rocky Mountain National Park?
Skrevet 15. oktober 2019
Is this doable in February? Looking for pretty views with snow (from Texas and love the snow!) Average physical ability, no cold weather gear, so any advice appreciated!
Skrevet 2. januar 2019
We have been there in June and August. There has been snow in June and the trail was open. I would recommend checking with the rangers and definitely where boots and where warm clothing.
Skrevet 19. september 2019
I'm heading there around the end of May. I have never done this hike before sunrise, do you suggest a headlamp or something? Any tips?
Skrevet 17. mai 2018
Little Risky in night time, definitely head lamp is advised. Some portion has a steep hike.
