Hi-Country Stables is extremely well-run, with fabulous staff, guides, horses and professionalism!!! The staff did everything they could to accommodate everyone for a fabulous ride in the park!! I couldn't have had a more enjoyable experience and thank each and everyone of the staff for making my bucket list item memorable:)

Guide told her manager before the ride that she was unfamiliar with trail for a full day ride. Guide got lost for 45 minutes. I was injured (my fault) but guide did nothing to give aid.
After the ride, no manager around to point out our experience. Would not recommend this outfit. Wrote the company & never heard back

I cannot recommend these stables enough! All the wranglers I spoke to were so kind and my guide was absolutely amazing, pointing out the different flora and fauna, explaining everything in detail and even giving suggestions of places to visit and eat. I was a bit nervous at first because I hadn’t been on a horse since I was a child but my guide put me at ease; she was clearly very experienced and answered all my questions. The horse I rode was Coffee and he is such a wonderful trail horse! I was already having a great time in the Rockies but this experience made it absolutely awesome.

Our family of six had a great ride through the mountains. Despite a rain shower in the middle of our ride, it was a fantastic experience. The views were amazing, and we highly recommend! We loved that this stable was on Trail Ridge Road and we didn't have to leave the park. For folks who did not know about having to get the timed ticket to enter the national park Bear Lake Entrance between 9:00 am-6:00 PM, taking a ride with this group also gives you access to the park during this timed ticketed part of the day which was a nice added bonus for us!

We booked early and some changes were made on the part of the stable. They did a great job communicating and working with us regarding time and they provided necessary information to enter the park and find the stables. The stable was near Sprague Lake and our 1 1/2 hour trail ride also passed this site which was stunning.
Be sure to wear jeans and shoes with a heel for your ride.
When you arrive you will sign a waiver and have the option to choose a helmet. Bathrooms were also available. The staff will match you to a horse and introduce you to your guide. The trail was through woods, up steep trails, over meadows, and through a stream. The guides kindly offered to take pictures before and during the ride. I do wish our guide had more information to share about the park during the ride. (He was not from the area so he was not able to answer many of our questions.)
There was no doubt that the horses knew the trail well. Be sure to bring a tip for your guide at the end!

We took the 3 hour ride through the Rockies which provided beautiful vistas at one point high up on a mountainside. All of us in our party had not ridden a trail horse in many years - 2 of us are in our 60s and 2 were in their 20s. It was a challenging ride for all of us. The trails are narrow and rocky and you just have to trust your horse! Definitely listen to the guide's instructions on when to lean forward/lean back as there is a lot of up/down hill riding. The other recommendation is to wear a pair of jeans as there are trees on the trails that you need to push away from. If you don't, you may experience skinned knees/legs. There was a lot of stopping as the lead guide's horse stopped many times to attend to flies on his flank. That means we had to be prepared to keep our horses' heads up from attempting to eat from the ground. If we were to do this again, we would go on the 2 hour ride as 3 hours was a bit too long.
Our lead guide, Jordan, was very helpful and was great at keeping an eye on all riders!

Our ride was awesome! Beautiful scenery, friendly staff, and beautiful horses! Highly recommend.....even if you have never ridden before!

We loved the fact we were IN the park to Ride. I have a daughter just turned Six and Chloe was amazing with her. We did the Two hour ride and it was just enough for her and new riders. The views were Breath Taking. It was a very beautiful day and we rode in the morning so the horses were Fresh and ready to go!
They were short staffed that day so it took a bit to get on the horses and get going but we had some beautiful views so it was fine. No hurry, just felt bad for the workers cause they were working their butts off. Great great day..love it so much

This is the only riding stable located within Rocky Mountain National Park. They have many horses for riders of all ability levels, including beginners and children. The horses are very well taken care of and are well accustomed to the trails and riders of all levels. The wranglers are all friendly, very helpful and supportive, and fun to be with. This is a great way to feel (particularly in your legs and rump after 2 hours in the saddle) and experience a bit of the old west and some of its most glorious scenery. I have ridden here over several decades, first with my kids and more recently with my grandkids. Great memories for all of us.
