This might be a little long, but I am hoping to help future visitors. I have a few suggestions for exploring the main canyon and a shorter (and less informative) version at the end.

FIRST, get there before 7 am, if possible. You will most likely use the shuttle to get around the canyon and the first shuttle leaves from the visitor center at 7 am. Be there early and get in line immediately We were on the second shuttle of the day, only waited maybe 10 minutes. The shuttles only have so much space and fill up quickly. As the day goes on, the lines to get on the shuttle will only get longer and longer. By the time we left (about 1pm) the line at the visitor center was easily a few THOUSAND people deep...wrapped around the pavilions, buildings, all the way to the end of the parking lot. Those people must have waited literally hours to get on. If you choose not to use the shuttles (or don't want to wait), then you can walk or bike, but the total distance from one end to the other is 7.7 miles (so 15+ miles round trip, NOT INCLUDING any other hiking you might do).

SECOND, when you do get on the shuttle, go straight to the end (Stop 9). If you get off at earlier stops and still expect to go deeper into the canyon, you will probably have to wait a while to get on a shuttle, especially as the day goes on. The sheer number of people in the park was insane and like I said above, there is only so much room on a shuttle. If nobody gets off, you can't get on an already full shuttle. So...if you get off at an earlier stop to walk around and then try to get back on, you're pressing your luck. If instead you go straight to the end, it seemed like the shuttles going down-canyon (back to the visitor center) were a lot less full, at least in the morning. We did the park in reverse order and only got turned away from a full shuttle once all day and it was between stops 2 and 1 (visitor center), so we just walked the last mile along the road.

THIRD/LASTLY, be prepared and have a plan. The park gets very crowded, very quickly. As soon as you get there, get a map at the visitor center (or, if it's still closed because you got there early like I suggested, they have them available as you are getting on the shuttle). While you are on the shuttle, go over the map and decide what you want to see, where you want to hike, etc. Follow your plan; if you deviate, you will get frustrated because trails and shuttle stops get super busy. As far as planning ahead, bring multiple sets of clothing, lots of water, and a travel/sport backpack. Some parts of the canyon can be very cold in the morning because of a lack of direct sunlight. The day we were there eventually was in the mid-60s, but it was extremely cold in the morning, especially around the Riverside Walk and Narrows (both at Stop 9). You will want to dress warm early, but then be able to change to shorts and a t-shirt. There are lots of places to hike, some easy, some strenuous, so you will need water. I also saw a lot of people with hiking poles, but I think those were really only necessary for the Narrows and Angel's Landing; everything else was easy enough without them.

TL:DR...The park gets very busy and the shuttles can have extremely long wait times...get there as early as possible, go straight to the end (Stop 9) so you can do the park in reverse order to avoid some of the crowds, and plan ahead with proper gear.

Yes, Angel's Landing and the Narrows get the hype, but it is the canyon that you come to see in Zion National Park. It is unlike other canyons in the National Park system in some many ways that it makes Zion special. The thing you will notice here first compared to so many other canyons is the green vegetation and the way the colors contrast against each other. Other canyons are grey or red with much less vegetation. However, the most significant difference is you experience Zion from the bottom looking up as opposed to all the others like Grand Canyon, Canyonlands or the Black Canyon where you are above looking down. The beauty and perspective have so much to do with creating one of the most amazing natural locations within the US or for that matter the world. It is something you have to experience, and I highly recommend.

My family and I were supposed to visit the National Park, but we couldn't get into the Park, and we were supposed hike the trails, but we didn't. The only complaint was the Parking, which was a little disappointing. We can't wait until we can visit the National Park again.

Zion Canyon is the primary attraction at Zion National Park. There are other beautiful parts of Zion National Park like Kolob Canyon. However, the major attractions at Zion like Angels Landing and The Narrows are part of Zion Canyon. There are many good hikes of all levels in Zion Canyon. Some like The Riverside Walk or the Pa'rus Trail are pretty easy. Others like Angels Landing are very difficult and can even be dangerous.
The main way to get around Zion Canyon is on the Zion Canyon Scenic Road. During most of the year only the Shuttles that leave from the visitor center are allowed on the road. At times the park can be crowded and Zion Canyon is the part that is most crowded.
This is a wonderful place, but it takes some planning to work around the crowds.

This is the main thing people go to see so it can be crowded, particularly at the lawn and eateries near the Lodge. But walking a bit you can sometimes have an area entirely to yourself.

It was breath-taking view! You have to be there in person to see all God's creation! We went to Las Vegas but we spend more time traveling the surrounding area. Will definitely have to go back!

The great thing about Zion's Main Canyon is that there are trails for everyone. You don't have to be a fearless hiker to enjoy this place. The Riverwalk is a nice hike that anyone can do while Angel's Landing is only for people who don't mind the steep drop-offs and have no fear of heights. The Narrows requires special gear. Just be advised that there is the possibility that some trails will be closed because of rock slides. This happened while we were at Zion.

A hike at the Narrows at Zion National Park is a hike that makes the bucket list for most but it may prove to be a challenge to someone older. It is challenging , its breath taking and would give you the most memorable experience provided you are ready for it.

It is advisable to join a tour because you would need wading suits and a stick to navigate the strung currents in the river.
