Lovely beach with great snorkelling. Very quiet.
Just don't try using the hotel restaurant if you're a non resident. They don't want your money!

Wonderful beach. Clean and not crowded. We swam here and also used this beach to hike to Pillars of Hercules which took about 25 minutes.

A quiet beach located near to English Harbour from where it may be accessed by car. The beach may be viewed from Shirley Heights which is way up high above the beach. It is somewhere to relax before or after exploring the nearby activities and Nelsons Dockyard. Wildlife includes the turtles, fish and the coral sea urchins.

This is nice and local to English Harbour / Falmouth. We found a spot of shade under a tree in the resort area. The kids enjoyed the floating pontoons. Ground was pretty hard, felt a bit like a man made beach. had a few villas on the beach but no facilities that we could see. Highlight was the eagle ray spotted when snorkelling. The water is much clearer far left side of the beach (standing with the beach behind you)

Definitely worth going but be extra vigilant about the sea urchins. This small bay is quite deserted. The hotel
is closed but there are lots of yachts moored up in the bay. Bring all the snacks and drinks you need. Worth going to see the turtles feeding in the sea grass. Enter and exit the water by the jetty area. The rest of the beach has a coral shelf which has lots of black spikey sea urchins which are extremely poisonous. Saw several turtles feeding in the sea grass area near to the boats. Not that many fish otherwise. A fabulous wild experience.

Pretty sandy beach nice for snorkelling though not great. Known as a turtle beach and nesting area, Whilst there someone in a group following a small turtle got nipped by a larger one (being protective ?) , minor injury all a bit dramatic @ the time but peace & order resumed & perspective regained.

This is probably a nice spot for snorkeling but not really for swimming. Some of the beach and much of the water is covered by small stones. It’s beautiful but here are so many amazing swimming beaches on the island.

Stunning beach. We were recommended to go hear to see the turtles and as we had a rental car we changed in it and parked feet away at side of the road and walked down. The beach is small and spotlessly clean. It’s quite stony and we were able to swim from shore and noticed the turtles swimming a few metres away. Beautiful clear water.

Teeming with sea life including turtles. You need to head over to the left hand side of the beach. Fantastic snorkeling only meters from the shore. Heck of a walk from the nearest bus stop. Place was deserted.

We are staying at a resort close by and wanted to do some snorkeling. After researching I decided to try Galleon Beach. I am so glad we did!!! We swam with a family of sea turtles, saw tons of beautiful coral and sea life and walked to the Pillars of Hercules. We stayed for several hours and no one wanted to leave. My kids are 19,16 & 13 but it would be fun for all ages. A few important tips
- there is the main beach area right past the security gate BUT if you will take the beach all the way to left where it ends and take the small path into the trees follow that around and down another small path toward the water there is another, smaller, beach that is a great launching point for snorkeling. We left our stuff there on the rocks and headed out into the water. Sea turtles were easy to find out in the bay. There are also several shipwrecks to explore.
- also - we walked over the big boulders and around the point to see the Pillars of Hercules. This was outstanding!! They were breathtakingly beautiful. You can climb on some rocks in front of the pillars for some great pictures. For this it would be much easier if you had shoes that strap on (Chacos, Tevas, etc) or tennis shoes. We did it in Crocs & flip flops but it would have been much easier with better footwear.
- finally - bring your own food and beverages. There is nowhere there to get refreshment. We took water bottles and were fine for a few hours. There are also no bathrooms.
It’s a very quiet, secluded beach. Despite the signs it IS a public beach. Only the Galleon Beach Club (no longer open) is what’s private.

Hi, there are no private beaches in Antigua, the public are allowed onto any beach. If you are driving, pull up and park on the side of the road,it is a dead end road, then walk through the gate, (what seems to be a holiday park in disrepair, If I remember correctly, there is a guard hut on the gate to. You will not be stopped walking to the beach, you just can't drive your car down to it. Best place for seeing a lot of fish and turtles, you won't be disappointed!

Hi,
Is it enought time to take a bus (number 17, I think) from St. Johns to English Harbour and first go to Shirley Heights and than walking to Galllon beach, stay there for two hours and than return to cruise terminal. I think that we stay in Antigua for 8 hours.

Can I get to this beach from the cruise port using a taxi? Is the water suitable for a 6yr old or are there strong currents?

Yes, you can reach the beach by taxi from St. John's, the main cruise port on the island. The journey takes about 30 -40 minutes dependent on traffic conditions. The road to the beach is narrow. An alternative is to get a taxi to English Harbour and then get a water taxi across to Galleon Beach. The journey across the harbour is only 5 minutes and you can ring up from the hotel gatehouse at Galleon Beach to get the water taxi to come and pick you up when you wish to return. There are lots of taxis at English Harbour waiting for passengers and they can take you back to St. John's.
The water at Galleon Beach is very safe with no strong currents as it is in a protected harbour.
