The grounds of Fort Hamilton are absolutely beautiful, and well-cared for. It's worth visiting just for the serene atmosphere and the excellent harbor and city views. The fort itself is interesting to visit, including trekking into the bowels of the fort, and one of our favorite (and unexpected) treats here - walking the moat! The moat around the fort is now a great nature trail, and is well worth the time to walk around.

My only gripe might be that there is little historical information to help orient visitors to the fort, but my understanding is the fort and grounds are undergoing some improvements, which includes informational plaques.

This also isn't a bad walk from downtown Hamilton, so it's well worth a convenient visit!

We walked here from the ferry which is about a mile. It's mainly flat for the first half on Front St. but when you turn left toward the fort it's straight uphill for the second half. It was a rough walk in the blazing heat. We were relieved when we arrived. The ground level of the fort is mainly a large, beautifully-kept garden now, with tons of gorgeous flowers and bushes everywhere, with some cannon outposts surrounding. But it's the underground tunnels and the dry moat that were the coolest. Tons of wild flora (and tiny lizards and even chickens) in the moat, which is a surprisingly long walk if you go all the way around. The tunnels are very long and cool to see and must have taken a long time to build back in the day. We didn't see any literature on the history of the place onsite, but I guess that keeps it so litter-free. There was a water fountain by the top of the stairs, which is handy since the tunnels are pretty far underground. Honestly, I didn't expect much from this fort, but was surprisingly impressed at the grounds and how fascinating the entire site was. And it was all downhill on our walk back to the ferry which was nice.

This was well worth the 15min walk from the bus station for the views over the city. It's free, with about 30min worth of walls and plants to admire.

we met the caretaker and he was so friendly . He suggested that he show us the grounds and sites. He gave us the history of the fort and was knowledgeable. the grounds were very nice and the view of the city was terrific. i also liked the jungle like area which reminded me of something from Jurassic park. btw-He also offered to drive us back to our hotel. I was impressed that both him and his wife are involved on site with a safe place for teen moms. They were very kind.

Not far from downtown bus terminal about a 20 walk. A “map” of the fort at entrance, self guided. Tunnels under fort can seem endless and not for claustrophobic. Views of Hamilton city and harbor from top of fort are beautiful

It was OK, but the one thing that really annoyed us, was that on their website, it states very clearly, that the Skirling Ceremory is performed every Monday at noon between November and March. After traveling for two hours to see it, as did other tourists, I can promise you that that is a pack of lies, because it didn't happen.
There's not much information about what you're seeing and quite frankly, it's not worth the walk up the hill.

A bit off the beaten path in St. George, the Fort sits above the recently built St. Regis hotel, which--to my mind--denigrates the historical significance of the fort/national park. But--as a former mayor of St. George told me--the Regis provides Bermudians with needed jobs. Yes, you can walk to the fort from St. George, but it is mostly uphill, and will test your endurance on a warm day. I should have taken a taxi. The fort itself is interesting, and will especially show you the difficulty of storing and moving cannon shells from the basement to the upper levels of a fort. Perhaps because of its location, perhaps because it could use a few more displays, the Fort does not appear to be a popular destination. But a trip there is worthwhile for a different reason: adjacent to the fort is Achilles Bay Park and Beach, an excellent, not often frequented, snorkeling destination, The coral here is not as beautiful as at Spanish Point or Warwick Beach, but Achilles sports more, and bigger, fish.

My wife and I walked around a lot of Fort Hamilton. Don't get confused when you are there on foot. There's a residential section and there's the actual fort. We ended up walking around both areas. The views from the highest point are spectacular. There were a couple of homeless men in the fort, which made us a little uneasy.

Truly enjoyed visiting this site! It's large and mostly outdoors so be sure to wear your walking shoes. The displays--both indoor and outdoor--are very well done and I learned a lot about the history of Bermuda here.

This is a short walk from the ferry dock, which is the best way to get to this area if you are staying in Hamilton. You could take the bus, but it's less scenic and longer.

There are shopping areas and restaurants nearby. Even with a cruise ship in port, this wasn't crowded...apparently shopping in downtown Hamilton is a bigger draw.

When you buy the ticket, be sure to get JUST the Fort ticket -- you get the Dolphin Quest tickets at the same place. Unless, of course, you also want to swim with the dolphins.

I thought Fort Hamilton would be less interesting than Fort St. Catherine. However, Fort Hamilton could easily be a better visit, depending on your interests. The views of the town and water were not that impressive. The visual evidence of history and military use is second to Fort St. Catherine. What really makes Fort Hamilton worth a visit is the moat garden. That’s a much more immersive experience than it sounds, and probably more than pictures can show.
