A gem!
This was part of a cruise ship excursion. While there, a guide accompanied us on the trail. She talked about the various plants grown there, plus let us touch and smell the various herbs and spices.
There is a small gift shop, which can become quickly crowed, but is well worth checking out.

We arrived around 12 noon and were the only ones there!. My family and I had a private tour of the herb and spice gardens. We were able to taste most of the spices and fruits that the garden offered: cinnamon, nutmeg, wax apple, cocoa, thyme, oregano, too many more to remember. We learned how the spices arrived on Grenada, their cultivation and how they are used. We were able to ask questions and it was just a delightful hour or so. They do sell the herbs, spices and chocolate bars in the small gift shop.

Had a little trouble with transportation, taxi is recommend especially for large groups. Solo travellers can manage with the bus but definitely talk to the bus drivers about where to get picked up after your visit.
Otherwise, this became a surprise highlight of my trip. Tasting fresh spices off the vine or tree or bush, fresh cocoa pods, mangoes and local fruit when in season on Grenadian soil was an amazing experience. It feels like I learned what spices are supposed to taste like!

We arrived to find 3 other buses all of which were on the same tour. Must have been over 40 folks some of whom we had to wait for as they used the bathroom facilities. One guide leading a line of people through the gardens on narrow walkway (dirt path) meaning those in back (us) couldn't hear any of the info being provided by the guide. The garden itself appeared to be lacking in maintenance and upkeep including one wooden walkway that was closed off as it was in an advanced state of decay. Would skip this tour if we had to do it over again. This was the consensus of all 6 in our party.

Having underestimated the travel time, we arrived close to lunchtime closing but were welcomed and shown round - how kind! It was a compact but very interesting tour, learning not only the culinary uses but also the medicinal uses for all the herbs and spices they grow. It was also good to be able to help them during the pandemic by buying from them too. It's well worth a visit.

What a great way to spend 30 minutes, the ride from Mt Cinnamon wasn't so harrowing now that we got our Google maps and Siri to work. It was a 30 minute drive though not easy as the roads go up and down and they are tight in some spots. Once we got there, we pulled up to the front and were the only the tourists there so our tour guide was ready. Though a little gruff when I first walked in to make sure I was in the right place, she led us around and was super informative and was actually friendly. The tour goes around the garden and she plucked multiple herbs and spices off the plants to let us smell them. She told us all the medicinal properties of each and how each could be used as ingredients for cooking. There was thyme, clove, cinnamon, tarragon, spearmint, lemongrass, cocoa among others. Everything smelled so fragrant and made the tour fast, fun and informative. We finished the tour by buying multiple herbs and spices including the gift pack which had a bunch of things as a Christmas gift for one of my bf's best friends. We would definitely recommend Laura's Herb and Spice Garden for any and all tourists.

This is a must see! Guide will take you around garden and explain what they do there and all the different varieties of trees, plants, herbs, etc. It is really interesting. They have a little gift shop where you can purchase many spices.

La dame qui nous a fait la visite nous a donné beaucoup d'informations. Très intéressant de voir comment certains fruits et herbes poussent!

We are going to Grenada next week on a cruise and we’re thinking of booking this excursion. How easy is it to go yourself by taxi etc or are we better booking via the ship? Is the gist much different?

We booked this through a tour company in Grenada, St James Travel and Tours. The tour took us to the Herb and Spice garden, Gem Rose Eden flower garden and La Grenade nutmeg jam and jelly making factory. A full afternoon travel around the lower end of the island. My view would be that this is s wonderful place to visit but to travel just to the herb garden and back would be too small a trip, but being part of a multi site visit made it a much better prospect.

Is mace a spice and what is it used in? Thanks, Chris

Yes mace is a spice from the outer covering of the nutmeg seed. It can be used in sweet & savory dishes & is used in Indian food a lot.

Hi, What's the easiest way to get to Laura's from a cruise that arrives in St. Georges? Is there a cab or bus? And given that a cruise is in, should we plan on a particular time to avoid crowds?
