Interesting place but quite small and it seems normal for your guide to be slightly stoned or drunk. We had a driver who went in and spoke to the guide first. It is $20 pp so can seem expensive for a 10 minute tour.
Everyone pleasant though and they have a real pride in the centre.
Trenchtown itself run down but some positive moves to develop.
The bob marley museum on hope street has much more to offer.

Me and My friend felt like it was very very racist being at Trenchtown requesting for music they could also accommodate every one excluding the African culture because they were playings 80s music... the white 'so called manager with a beard' said its what the majority wanted' which was 3 people dancing on the dance floor and the others were sitting of color. Spoke to manager who made it seem as if I was the problem and should be grateful as the dj was playing over his booked time.

We used the knutsford express intercity bus to travel from Negril to Kingston. A rep from trenchtown tours met us at Kingston bus station and it was a Dr. Livingston moment.
We were brought for lunch to a jerk bbq city centre establishment which was delicious, and then on to the government yard in trenchtown where Bob and Rita Marley had lived. The tour was very interesting and we were then treated to a live performance by "livinkulture".
Afterwards we got a taxi to "the reggae hostel" where we had a private ensuite double. The next morning we got the bus to hope road where Bob and Rita lived when he became successful, and after a tour we got a taxi to the bus station and went back to Negril.

I can't understand the way people think they've "done" Trench Town by just touring past the slums in cars. I must say we'd had enough walking for the day as we arrived from a Saturday morning in Coronation Market. But we felt we had to tour the actual yard where Bob Marley had lived with a host of other to-be-famous musicians. It's still there and deserves a visit.
We turned up there very thirsty and hungry too. The woman running the show was just SO caring. She got us brought beers to where we sat in her office and then sent out for food for us. It turned out to be the one thing we'd missed so far -- pig's tail and rice 'n' peas -- and it was absolutely delicious! Sitting on a bench sharing that meal out of a polystyrene container using one plastic fork was one of the best meals I've had in years! She is such a kind and helpful person, but then almost everyone we met in Kingston was the same.
Blackie went on to give us a very informative tour of the yard, with lots of photographic evidence and anecdotes. My husband is a musician and sings several Marley hits. They really have added meaning to him now.
The one thing I regret not asking is: where did all this massed talent go? What about their kids and everyone else who has grown up in Kingston since? We searched hard and found only one live group performing in Kingston in six days; not even any buskers! That was the one big disappointment of the holiday.

The Trench Town tour is notable as one of the few truly authentic experiences on the Island (and I am a born and bred Jamaican so I should know). The tour is conducted by locals who seem to have had some basic training on the information to convey to visitors. It is humbling and inspiring to see the place that started Bob Marley on his path to show the world his creative genius. This is a tour for both locals and foreigners to enjoy.

Went to trench town today with some friends, stopped at the culture yard and got a tour of it from treval, great tour and great guy. Very passionate and informative. Seeing trench town was a bucketlist for myself, as I wanted to explore the real roots of reggae and Jamaica itself. Would go again. Keep your eyes open and enjoy yourself. One love.

Hi! We hired a taxi today to take us around and see downtown, Trenchtown and Port Royal. First stop was Tuff Gong in Trenchtown, where we got off and was offered 3 different tours. Since we went to Bob Marleys museum/house (MUST SEE!) two days earlier we declined. But for You, who probably are more in to reggae and the culture here I would recommend You to go. It felt safe and welcoming even though we tend to feel a bit uneasy when it comes to ghetto-tourism - Is powerty really for sightseeing?
