The museum has a small but interesting collection of history and artifacts. Jamaica has a unique history, and this is one of the few places on the north shore to see it on display. The art gallery is also small, but the rotating exhibits are of high quality. If you are travelling to the centre in an automobile, be aware that parking in central Montego Bay is very hard to find. If you travel to the centre in a tourist van, the van is allowed to park in front of the building.

The tour guides were very knowledgeable and informative. They told about Jamaica’s history as far back as 700A.D. The role Marcus Garvey played in Jamaica in the early 1900’s as well as The Revelation of Ras Tafari. Also, the different nationalities that controlled the leadership of the country throughout its existence. It was a lot of information to absorb and most of it I didn’t know. I will not post many pictures because it’s a “must do” when in Jamaica. Excellent experience!!!

There are two exhibitions, one on Jamaican history generally, and the other on Rastafarianism. Neither are very rich in artefacts, but they do present history in digestible form, with excellent use of graphics and historic material. We learned a lot in our 1 hour visit. Staff very very helpful and knowledgeable.

We visited the museum on Easter Sunday 2018. We toured the Montego Bay history side and then the Rastafarian history side. Both sides were extremely educational. Our guide was Carrie Ann, the museum curator. She gave us a fantastic tour. Very professional, informing and understandable. After the history areas, we toured a sculpture gallery. Overall a great experience.

Plan for several hours!! We had a great docent led tour of the museum which was small but very interesting. The Rasta exhibit was very well done and worth the reading. Unfortunately, as we spent so much time in these two areas, we did not get into the National Gallery. Don't cut yourself short with time as it is well worth the visit.

Held consultations here and we were well received. Thanks again Ms Hillary. The meeting room area was spacious clean and well attended to by the maintenance and grounds people who take care of the centre.

The location was able to accommodate all the necessaries for our event needs with the help of caterers.

I always saw this building when on my rare forays into the chaotic town of Montego Bay. And on a tour of the island i finally decided to stop in and see. I was not disappointed.
Inside is a Rastafari Exhibit, Art Gallery and the Jamaica National Museum West.
I had an edifying walk around the exhibit and gained new appreciation for story of the Rastafarians in our Jamaican society.
The history of the Sam Sharpe Square and the Cristmas Rebellion's place in the accomplishment of Emancipation was a nice reminder of the past Jamaicans share.
I was fortunate enough to go on a day there was an exhibition by David Gumbs which was an unusual but interesting graphic display.
Its a pretty good find in the city, not hard to find and not expensive. Also the souvenirs available for purchase are beautiful and authentic.
